Would you care for some Ryzen with that laptop?

What a treat it has been to work and play with this brand new convertible Chromebook with a beautiful narrow-bezel 14 inch full HD screen, stunning aluminum lid, spacious back-lit keys, and AMD Ryzen 3 3000 Series processor. It looks amazingly like its more expensive sibling, the Spin 713, but with a bigger screen.
Yes, this laptop has a 14-inch screen, and the Spin 713’s spec is only 13.5 inches! Admittedly, their design is different in that the 713 has a 3:2 aspect ratio, and the 714 has the more commonly seen 16:9, the latter being better for media consumption and the former having more available real estate for office work. But I am typing this review with the Microsoft Word app, and have no usability complaints whatsoever.
How is the Ryzen and is 4gb of memory enough? For my purposes, the Ryzen 3 has easily and speedily handled every task I have thrown at it, and 4 gigs of memory has been plenty for my work and play. This Ryzen chip was designed for use with chrome OS, and it shows. There is a fan, and after hours of work, I could sometimes hear it turn on, but it never bothered me. This Spin has not bogged down on me at all, and all tasks have been completed with aplomb. I seldom use the Linux apps, but did turn on the feature to install and use several apps, including Thunderbird mail. I had no problems, but I think you would be pressing the limits of this laptop’s memory if you wanted to keep several Linux apps going at once.
The 64gb of internal storage is on an eMMC chip, and not an SSD. It has not slowed me down. I stuck a 256gb card in the micro-SD slot, and have more than enough storage for my future use. The card installs flush and does not protrude at all.
There are ports aplenty. USB-C on both sides, and you can charge from either. And there are USB-A ports on either side as well, and an earphone jack. The power button is on the left side, and the volume control on the right.
The chassis on this device are MIL-STD 810H certified. That means this laptop can stand some punishment. It is so pretty, I would never want to intentionally test that specification!
The sturdy hinge allows the screen to be folded back for the tent mode, and then all the way back to use as a tablet. When you fold the screen all the way back, the keyboard is disabled.
The battery life is specified to be up to 10 hours. I have already used it for eight solid hours on a full charge, and it is still going strong. I have no reason to doubt that spec.
I think this Spin 514 Chromebook should be considered by anyone looking for an attractive midrange feature-rich Chrome OS device. Streamed movies render beautifully. Office work is a cinch. Honestly, this a lot of machine for a great price. If you are considering a Chromebook, you will want to give this one a look.

Solid Performance

This is a gorgeous 4K display, calibrated out of the box, and a cinch to set up. The monitor took some adjustment on my part to get accustomed to. The native resolution of 3840 X 2160 is 4K and then some. Scaled to 120 per cent on the desktop as recommended by Windows 10, text is quite crisp and readable, but tiny. That annoyance is easily adjusted. I have this display set up next to a 24-inch monitor which it has supplanted. I am enjoying the extended desktop. My other monitor, adjusted by eye only, had a bluish cast to the whites, and the Asus appeared relatively warmer. I trust the calibrated Asus.
The non-reflective screen has been a joy to use. I have the monitors set up at my office desk. Given the way I have been using the Asus so far, its beautiful resolution is overkill. Its video inputs feature two HDMI inputs, a USB-C input, and a Display Port input. The monitor comes with a USB-C cable, tagged to be USB 3.1 compliant, an HDMI cable, and a Display Port cable. My Lenovo ThinkCentre M90n1 with an i5-8265U processor and Intel UHD Graphics 620 was able to output HDR under Windows 10 into the Asus, and it looked fantastic. I had to connect it with the supplied Display Port cable. I was not able to get video to pass through the USB-C cable from the Lenovo into the Asus unless I used a USB-C to HDMI dongle (not supplied), leading me to think the supplied USB-C cable may have been at fault.
I had the monitor up and running in less than 15 minutes out of the box. No tools are required to attach the monitor panel to the base, which is replete with the video input options mentioned, all speced to be capable of displaying 4K HDR resolution at 60 fps. In addition, there is a headphone jack (3.5mm) and four USB-A 3.1 ports which operate off the USB-C input, the Asus acting as a hub, also passing along power to connected devices, such as laptops, which need it to recharge batteries.
I was startled to hear audio out of the monitor. The Asus does have speakers which are passable, and they are a convenience to have if outboard speakers are not available.
This is a fine monitor and will serve my needs for some time to come. I am not a gamer or into production graphics or video. I will use the Asus occasionally to touch up photographs and consume media, in addition to its regular office work.

When the COVID- delayed Bowers and Wilkins S2 Anniversary Edition boxes arrived, I knew some adjustments to my plans would be required. I have an existing 5.1 home theatre set up in my living room but wanted to extend the home theater experience into a smaller and more personal 11 x 14 room upstairs. The shipment arrived in two packages: one containing a pair of 606 S2 bookshelf speakers, and another containing the HTM6 S2 center speaker.
The 606 S2 bookshelf speakers weigh 15 pounds each, and are 13 inches high, but 12 inches deep, and they are a ported system which is not designed to be wall mounted and should be placed away from the wall for the best performance. I obtained B&W's STAV24 S2 stands which are specifically engineered for the 606 S 2 and present a stable base and compliment the overall design. The HTM6 S2 center speaker fit nicely on the shelf of my existing equipment stand, below my viewing panel.
The Anniversary Edition speakers feature the B&W Continuum mid-bass drivers and an upgraded crossover and present a striking visual presentation with the grills off. The grills are held on by magnets and are easily replaced.
Set up
Both the 606 S2 and the HTM6 S2 can be bi-amped, so there are two sets of connectors on the back of each. Bi-amping a center channel speaker? I had never heard of that, but when you listen to this center channel speaker, you will be amazed at how important the HTM6 S2 can become in your home theater set up. Each speaker is ported, and the bass performance can be tweaked by inserting a configurable foam plug. I am running all the speakers with the plugs out right now but plan to experiment with the plugs after full break-in of the speakers. Small changes can make a difference. I used the Onkyo Audyssey mike to balance the B&W's with my Hsu subwoofer, and two NHT Zeros used for the rear channels. I currently have the Zeros on stands and am moving them around for the best effects on movies.
The listening
These speakers are plenty sensitive. I am driving them with my ten-year-old Onkyo TX-NR808 which can easily push them to ear-splitting levels without speaker or amplifier stress. For a listening room like the one where I tested, I think the smaller but less-efficient B&W 606 would have done nicely as well. Unlike my other surround system, both the 606 S2 and HTM6 S 2 are full-range speakers. They have plenty of bass. My subwoofer can be relegated to handling the frequencies below 50hz, and the B&W's can handle every other part of the frequency spectrum for both music and video which constitutes about ninety-nine per cent of my listening experience.
I started with music, and greatly enjoyed my old reference CD of Jazz at the Pawnshop. The presentation was clean and uncolored, and the imaging was excellent and fully preserved the placing of the instruments and the ambiance of the venue and the audience. Ry Cooder's Jazz, another reference of mine and all acoustic, was just a joy to revisit. I also played David Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name and heard fine details in the recording that I am not sure I have ever heard before. Everything begins and ends with the music. The 606 S2s alone tend to make me want to sit for hours listening to music and not writing any reviews. There is no midrange push on voices or grating over-emphasis on the high end, unless contained in the recording itself. And you will notice the differences as you trot out the older recordings you though you knew.
There was a striking difference from my prior home theater experience when listening to the HTM6 S2 center speaker. I searched Blu-Rays, DVDs, video, and streaming sources and was hard-pressed to find any unintelligible dialog. My prior home theater experience often relegated my wife and I to turning on the subtitles to understand the dialog. Not anymore. Nor is the dialog foisted forward into your lap to make it intelligible. It is just there and beautifully integrated into the presentation across the theatre screen, as one would expect with this matched speaker set.
With no tweaking at all, the B&W Anniversary Edition speakers have produced excellent sound. I suspect I will be tuning them up for some time to come to get them to their full potential. Feed them a bad recording, and you'll hear every deficiency. Feed them a great recording, and you will enjoy details you have never heard before. Any speaker is an important investment which you will be using for years to come. These speakers are not inexpensive, but if you value the sound, they are a great investment which will pay you back many times over, as your listening, your recordings, your music, and your supporting equipment change. I will need a reference standard with which to judge my other equipment and recordings, and the S2 Anniversary Edition will serve that role quite nicely. Highly recommended.

Go to sleep!

These comfortable earbuds are designed to help you sleep. You set them up and control them with your iOS or android phone, and they use continuous, repetitive sound patterns to help mask other noise and aid lull you into pleasant and longer-lasting sleep patterns.
White noise has always helped me sleep. When I was a college freshman, my roommate and I used white noise to adjust to dorm life. In those ancient times, we unmuted my FM tuner and hunted for a spot on the dial between stations. The continuous white noise masked the other annoying sounds and helped us get a good night’s rest. The earbud concept is much more pleasant and effective.
These come in an attractive metal charging case with status lights that the charging state of the case. When the case battery is fully charged, you can charge the buds up to three times and they last up to 10 hours on a charge. You monitor and set up the buds after installing the smartphone app. The app gives you the percentage of charge on each bud, and mine needed to be charged before use. I attached a USB-C charger to the case with the buds in place and let the case and the buds charge fully for several hours before the first use. You must furnish the charger. I used my phone charger and it worked perfectly.
I found these buds to be quite comfortable. The earbud tips and large “wings” fit nicely in my ear canal and outer ear, respectively. I am accustomed to wearing ear buds and was able to place these in my ear and forget they were there. If you are not used to earbuds, you may be in store for an adjustment curve. There are several different tips in the box to fit different sizes of ears.
The sleeping sounds for the buds are not the static-like white noise of my youth. These patterns are pleasant and repetitive, and you can select between several, some based on musical tones and others on natural sounds like the seashore and outside traffic. I liked the ocean patterns best.
I did not use the loudest level but settled on a level that seemed comfortable to me. After a few minutes I was off to a restful sleep. On the first night, I have no recollections of any interruptions. On subsequent nights, I remember waking from a deep sleep occasionally with a quick return to deep sleep. All these are expected and welcome results. I don’t think it reasonable to believe these buds will work for everyone. Many issues can affect sleep other than extraneous noise. I found them to be quite comfortable and quite effective in aiding my sleep.

The sound matters...
on October 1, 2020

They stay in your ears without a thought. After using them for several days, I find them to be very comfortable. Above all all else, the sound reproduction from these ear buds is simply magnificent. More on that in a moment.
I love the attractive white eggshell finish of the charging case. No fingerprints. Quite classy. I was able to pair my Pixel 4a in seconds after opening the box. I have had the buds for two days and can attest that the buds easily provide five hours of music on a single charge. After a day of use, I stuck the buds back in the case and charged them up for another day. The case had a full charge on it out of the box, and I still have not had to recharge it.
But I digress. The sound is all important. I read the instructions. I inserted the plugs into my ears, and the sound was... awful: tinny and with no bass at all. I could not believe my ears. My first thought was that I was not situating the buds correctly, and, after playing with them for a minute, all was corrected. When the tips are inserted into your ear canal, you must twist the black wing on each bud it is properly buried in the cavity of your outer ear. When I did that, the sound was... perfect. And I do mean perfect. I am a headphone (and earbud) aficionado, and I am in love with these buds.
After two days of listening to my favorite songs, I have heard details and nuances in the music that I never noticed before. The buds have a bass enhancement feature but I prefer not using it. I hear exactly what was recorded. If the sound was warm and lush, I hear it. If the recording is dry and analytical that is what I hear. These buds are completely true to the source.
I have had so much fun listening to music old and new. If I am leaving out all the Google assistant features that can be used with this phone, please forgive me. I will play with those later.
The only identifiable weakness came occasionally when using the buds for phone conversations. The other speaker was clear, but too low in volume, and I could not hear them as well as I wanted to hear them without maxing the volume on the buds. When the music returned after hang up, it blasted my eardrums. When speaking with the same caller, and the using same smartphones on other occasions, the relative sound level was just fine. I am not exactly sure what caused this intermittent problem.
When you pull a bud of of your ear, the song automatically pauses, or you can tap once on a bud to pause. Two taps and you'll go to the next track. You can also swipe up or down on either bud to change the volume level.
These Pixel Buds are not inexpensive, but their sound is stupendous, they are attractive, comfortable, have good battery life and recharge quickly and easily. They are also just plain fun to use and to listen to.

The technology is amazing

I received this item for review as Hurricane Sally approached our Alabama Gulf coast. I had heard positive tales from other Roomba owners, and was anxious to evaluate this model because it is touted to be highly effective with picking up dog and cat allergens. I have a dog and a cat.
Fortunately, our power was still on as the package arrived at our doorstep. I unboxed it, downloaded the Roomba app from Google Play, plugged in its charging station, and connected the Roomba with the software via WiFi. I let the device charge for a couple of hours and ran the vacuum when the software showed it to be fully charged. I hit the run button on the software and a few minutes later the unit turned on and started “doing its thing”. You can also simply press the start button on top of the Roomba to begin a job.
It exited the charging station dock and ran several cleaning rows on the rug in the dining room. It encountered objects in its way, stopped, and changed course to run another row, undeterred. I watched it run down the hall all the way into the living room to chart another cleaning course. The vacuum ran for two and a half hours and found its way back to the charging station. The software told me it was charging, and after the charge was complete (I did not time it), the vacuum started another run to finish its vacuuming task- going back to the un-vacuumed areas. This took another hour and a half. Roomba then went back to the charging station and powered off. The vacuuming job was finished, and without one iota of human intervention in the whole process.
I emptied the dust bin and got a shot of the impressive results which I am posting for this review. That trash can deposit came after only ½ of the first job run while the unit was recharging. The bin was not full by any means.
The software allows setting up a job, for example, where the vacuum runs Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. after you have gone to work. The Roomba could be doing regular maintenance vacuuming and keeping your floors clean without your ever seeing it perform its duties. You can also mate the Roomba software with Alexa or Google so that you can start a job using your voice. I have not gotten to try that yet because Hurricane Sally knocked our power out. Fortunately, I had enough juice in my laptop with LTE to get this review written and submitted.
There are some things the Roomba cannot do. It cannot walk up and down stairs. The best way to use the system on a two-story residence would be to have a Roomba for each floor. Given the “no human intervention” design of the Roomba, I suspect many users with multi-story homes follow that approach.
Does it pick up as thoroughly on one pass as the most powerful upright and canister vacuums? I think the answer to that question is “no”, but I do not think such an expectation is reasonable. If this vacuum detects extra dust or dirt, it will go back over the area several times to complete the job. The end result is quite impressive.
Using this system on a day to day basis is going to keep your floors clean and dust free and to the extent you will not have to do maintenance vacuuming yourself. Your Roomba will have already done it, and that, my friends, is a very pleasant reality.

If you wanted smaller, you got it!

This product solves a dilemma presented to many coffee drinkers who want their morning coffee, but not in the larger volumes of many coffeemakers. I can attest that this little wonder will give the full Mr. Coffee flavor, but take up little space on the counter. And it has has a digital clock which allows pre-programming of a brew time. You can either pour the coffee through and press a button to brew it immediately, or set it to brew the coffee at the time you select. It's just like every Mr. Coffee you may have had, but smaller.
If found the product to be convenient and very useful.

I have used this with both my Galaxy Book S and HP X360 Chromebook and it works flawlessly. If you need Ethernet through your USB-C port, you are covered with this dongle. There is nothing to configure- just plug it in the the USB-C port, and an Ethernet connection shows up on your taskbar. With Gigabit speed, you'll only be limited by the speed of your internet provider- not this dongle.
The extra added attraction is that you can also attach your device's USB-C charger to the Adapter and it passes the power through so you can charge the device while using the Ethernet connection. That feature is a great convenience.
I like Belkin products becuase they generally deliver exactly as promised, and this adapter is no exception.

Results in Days

I have been using this product for about a week, and have seen the results. I expect even better results as the treatments progress.
The procedure is easy, but not particularly comfortable. You brush your teeth, apply a clear gel to your teeth, and insert a denture-shaped contraption into your mouth. It attaches to your smartphone and powers a multiple LED array flooding your teeth with harmless blue UV light. The recommended treatment time is from 10 to 30 minutes a day. Then take it out and rinse your mouth.
I was able to see results after four treatments. I am very pleased with the uniformity of the whitening. My top teeth are whiter than the bottom, but I noticed results on both. And the whitening seems like a natural progression. I expect to use this treatment many times in the future to whiten and maintain my smile.
Highly reccomended.

No, the device will not deplete your battery. It has its own battery which recharges while your vehicle is in operation, so that it can continue to monitor your car while it is parked.

what type of tv has a internal tuner that i don't need converter box [have antenna]

You have to look at the specifications for the set. If it has a tuner, the feature will be listed. Some sets don't have a tuner. My Vizio model does not, and I knew it didn't. I tune my local channels with a TiVo. Silicon Dust makes a variety of boxes that tune both cable and over the air channels. If you have a smart TV, you can simply download an app to stream your local channels from the HD Homerun box.

Simplify device management with this Logitech Harmony Express smart universal remote control. Amazon Alexa is built in, letting you issue voice commands to access entertainment, ask questions and a host of other features. This Logitech Harmony Express smart universal remote control lets you change TV channels, open apps on tablets and tackle numerous other tasks.

Despite numerous requests, I see that both Amazon and Harmony will still not create a remote with number keys. There are apps that you can download for your Amazon Fire TV known as iptv services. But, you can't change channels without number keys!

I am using the Express without a keypad. You speak the channel, and Alexa and Harmony Express pull up the channel, whether you say "Go to Channel 10" or "Go to Fox". But do be advised that I am using a TiVo, where each channel has a specific number.

Enjoy crisp, colorful picture quality with this Full HD HP monitor. The ultrathin bezel on the 27-inch screen provides an expansive viewing area so you can stay productive, and its AMD FreeSync technology reduces input lag and screen tearing. This HP monitor has two HDMI ports for connecting gaming consoles and other devices.

Can this be turned vertically in its stand?

The stand allows the screen to be titled several degrees up and down to suit your viewing angle. It does not allow rotation. To rotate the screen, you would need to rotate the stand, which is not that hard to do because the monitor and stand are relatively light.

How do I connect speakers to this montior

The speakers would be powered from your computer, not this monitor. It has video inputs only.

Is there a removeable screen protector on the monitor from the manufacturer? It appears to have a removeable film, but I'm worried it's supposed to be there and if I remove it then the monitor will be messed up.

There was no film on mine. The screen has a matte surface, not shiny.

Enjoy your favorite tracks with this iLive IHB603B stereo system, which supports Bluetooth 2.1 and features an FM radio, CD player and 3.5mm auxiliary input for a variety of listening options. A remote ensures simple operation.

I was wonder how big is the system meaning lenth, and is the sound very loud

From the product literature for the SRS-XB41:
Size & Weight
DIMENSIONS (W X H X D)
11 1/2 in x 4 1/8 in x 4 1/4 " (291 mm x 104 mm x 105 mm)
WEIGHT
3 lb 5 oz (1500 g)
I am attaching a picture with a conventional flashlight at the bottom for size comparison. The smaller SRS-XB21 is on the bottom, and the larger SRS-XB41 is on top. I have both. They each put out sound at a loud volume that belies their respective size, but the SB 41 is bigger with punchier bass, and a higher output. It will fill the largest room with loud, clear, detailed sound.

Will this system transmit Bluetooth signal to my hot tub Bluetooth speakers in my backyard?

From the product product specifications: These features allow you to setup multiple SRS-XB21 (or compatible speakers) together in a chain or specify their position individually. You can add up to 100 speakers it says but I have no way of testing that. It is nice to be able to add 2 of them and specify one for left channel and one for right. Here is a quick list of compatible speakers - SRS-XB21, SRS-XB31, SRS-XB41, SRS-XB20, SRS-XB30, SRS-XB40, GTK-XB60, GTK-XB90.

Are your hot tub speakers on this list above? If not, the answer is "no". But the Bluetooth radios on these units have a good range, and they are portable, so you could simply take the Sony to the hot tub.

Can I use my Samsung phone for the bluetooth to play music?

You should be able to do so. That is what the speaker is designed to do. It worked perfectly with my Pixel 2 smartphone.
