An Action Camera With Endless Possiblities

This product is more difficult to describe than to use and way more fun to play with than to write about.
Operation is dead simple. One button on the side to changes modes and one button on the top turns the unit on and off and starts and ends the recording. That’s it. It comes with an everyday carrying case with in integrated handle for effortless operation. The camera is well made, sturdy and water resistant. Outside the case, the camera fits nicely in the palm of your hand. The anodized aluminum feels great, and Its tiny. Most of the time, I used the everyday case and handle because it offers the easiest way to use the camera. Remember, you are shooting at up to a full 360-degree perspective. It also comes with a soft carrying bag to protect and clean the dual lenses when you in use.
You use the supplied USB cable to transfer the recorded videos to your smartphone: either iPhone or Android. My sample had both cables included. I use a Pixel 2 android phone and downloaded the free Rylo app from Play Store. There is a second cable for charging the Rylo. Charging was quick, and a full battery charge should give 60 minutes of shooting. The unit comes with a 16GB micro SD, which can be expanded up to 128GB.
Think of any action sequence you may want to film: a bike ride, a hike, a ride in gyroplane—anything, and this camera is equipped to capture it with a 360-degree field of view. It works best in outdoors where there is plenty of light. And the resolution is a very good 1080p. Indoor shots may show some grain. If you are shooting in 360, one camera shoots 180 degrees, and the other shoots the remaining 180. The software automatically stitches the two outputs together. You must transfer the video to your smartphone to use the editing features on the Rylo app.
This is where the magic happens. Yes, you can cut and trim shots with the software, to give the sequence you want to use, but the most amazing feature is picking where in the 360-degree field of view you want to show. As you view the video, you can choose the perspective for example: 20 degrees off center at 45 degrees in elevation. Or you can select a figure, like a dog running beside you, and the software will follow it and you can frame your video around solely to track the canine and keep it in the shot until the end.
Or, if you want, you can set the camera to shoot only in 180-degree perspective. All the features are present, but with 50 per cent of the field of view if you don’t need all 360 degrees for your shot. I have found myself using the 180 setting more often than the 360 to get the initial feel of using the camera. Video resolution is at 1080p.

The digital stabilization is simply out of this world. You can be running along, filming the action with camera in hand and the video will be as smooth as silk with this feature activated. Its operation is flawless, and the smoothness of the video breathtaking.
The camera can also be used for still captures. I have not played much with that feature. I would suspect the standard user buys this unit for action video and not for stills. Nevertheless, I can certainly see why this feature could be needed when a still shot subject requires immediate capture. And the still can offer one heck of a panoramic shot!
The video is beautiful and detailed, with only a hint of artifacts showing up occasionally in my shots- not enough to deter my enthusiasm for the product. I simply have not seen any video action camera that can do all this diminutive camera does and with such aplomb. The potential creative adjustments to the final video are limited only by your imagination.
If you are in the market for an action video camera that is portable and that you can take with you to capture 360-degree action, the Rylo may be the only camera on your list. I highly recommend it.

Great Smartphones Come in Small Packages

I have never been swept away by the huge phones now in vogue, and this Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact has been designed to meet the challenge of packing every premium phone feature into a smaller Android phone that fits nicely in your hand and your pocket. This smartphone meets the assignment and more. And Sony has thrown in some special surprises as well.
I have attached pictures of the phone in my medium-sized hands. It is metal cased with a non-fingerprint coating. The 2,870 mAh battery lasts all day, and maybe even a little longer. The device is not particularly light. It felt a little heavy in my hand, but it was never cumbersome. to hold or use. The fingerprint sensor is in the middle of the back cover. I never had to fumble around to use it.
The 5-inch LCD panel shines gorgeous. It sports full HD+ resolution (2,160 x 1,080) and displays a 18:9 aspect ratio. I found it to have very good viewability from different angles, and it held up well in outdoor conditions. The screen has a narrow bezel which I find quite attractive, but which may not satisfy those who demand a bezel-less display.
This is an unlocked smartphone for use on GSM networks. When I opened the package, I noticed there was no tool to get the SIM drawer open. I quickly discovered that I didn't need one. The SIM tray, which can hold a both a micro SD card, as well as the SIM slides out for easy access. I popped in a T-Mobile Nano- SIM, and had the phone up running instantly. With the phone's 64 GB of internal memory, I did not feel the immediate need for the SD card, but the option is always there if extra space is needed- up to 400GB!!
Calls were crisp and clear on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network. In my city T-Mobile offers a great signal just about anywhere. Callers thought my voice clear, and I could hear them well. Sony provides an excellent earbud set, but, as is the case with the evolution of smartphones, you must use the included USB adapter to enjoy them. There is no earphone jack. The on board speakers were also loud and clear, and the speakerphone feature worked well.
The camera is superb. It captured indoor and outdoor subjects with great aplomb. Outdoors, its images are world-class. In darkly- lit environments, some noise can creep in, but never to an unacceptable level. The camera is easy to use and quick- operating for snapshots.
And the 13-megapixel rear camera records 4K video footage with full 10-bit HDR processing. I shot some 4K which looked great on the small screen, but I was not immediately able to stream it in full 4K to my Livingroom set which sports full 4K resolution. The picture nonetheless looked stupendous on the 65-inch screen. I am going to transfer the video to other media for exhibition on the large display and I expect spectacular results.
Sony also offers a 960fps slow-mo mode, which, although not in HD+, is certainly in full HD, has the potential to capture family sporting events with incredible detail. I had great fun playing with this and am having to educate myself in hitting the slo-mo capture at the right second.
The XZ2 compact runs a near- stock Android Oreo build, with Sony features built in as well. It found it to be smooth as silk and found no evidence that the Sony tweaks slowed the Oreo experience down one iota. The top of the line Snapdragon 845 processor and 4GB RAM, of course, allow Oreo to really shine, and all the Google conveniences are at your immediate beck and call. OK Google, navigate to Charleston; send a message – all there.
One of the tweaks I enjoyed was a beautiful set of Sony exclusive themes, once of which is shown in the photograph.
I was able to easily use the phone all day, with plenty of battery left over. The phone quick charges through the supplied AC adapter which accesses the USB-C port at the phone's base. Sony offers Xperia Assist which automates certain processes to conserve battery usage and maximize battery longevity.
The XZ2 Compact is a beautiful, smaller compact phone that does everything that its larger competition can do and goes beats the non- Sony competition with its special video features. If a smaller phone melts your butter, this is the one to consider. Highly recommended.

Even More Sony Magic

I just reviewed the little brother (SRS-XB21) of this larger speaker in glowing terms. Sibling rivalry makes big sister have to try that much harder, and that she does. She's bigger, and better, but not tremendously larger, as is shown in the attached photographs.
This speaker has a bigger physical footprint and more power. It WILL fill the largest room with plenty of sound and even more bass than its little sibling.
They both are party animals, and big sister is just, well, prettier. She's decked to the nines with an ever changing multi colored LED and strobe light show that pulsates with every nuance of the music. You can change the colors and behavior through the Sony Music Center, and a seperate Sony app is available for those artisans that want to customize the behavior of the light and sound show even more. Or you can turn the whole show off and just enjoy the music.
Both sport the party mode, allowing you to tap the front or sides and add your own drumbeat to the music you are dancing to. It's really a fun feature. Both have the same water resistant and dust-proof build and design.
But the sound is the key. The diminutive XB21 is incredibly good. This bigger speaker beats it in total output and bass, if not in absolute sound quality. Little brother is from the same bloodline after all.
But since even fun must be measured for comparison, here is where big sis stands out:
1. More power and bass;
2. Much more complete and detailed light show with multiple and beautiful colors and artistic control over its interaction with the sound;
3. An AC adapter is included, and charging is also available via a USB cable (not included) from a compatatble charger;
4. A 98-foot wireless range (take your sound next door); AND
5. An incredible 24 hours on a charge (lighting off) !

The sound is great. It can be daisy-chained with other Sony wireless speakers. I haven't tried that yet between the SRS-XB41 and XB21, the Music Center App sees and works with both speakers wirelessly, but I have only used them one at a time for my evaluation and testing.
There seems to be conflicting information on whether the battery is charging when the AC adapter is plugged in. All I can say is the charging LED comes on when it is attached, and goes off after after for several hours. I have not yet tried to operate the unit for 24 hours straight, but there is a first for everything.
This is a better Sony bluetooth speaker than little brother, and for 2.5 times the price, it should be. I don't have to decide: I've got both. You can't go wrong with either.

Pure Fun, Excellent Compact Speaker

You must hear this Sony bluetooth speaker to beieve it. It is the size of a conventional flashlight. Not a touch bigger. But it can literally fill a medium to large size room with clear, spacious, undistorted sound. I have both this and the larger SRS-XB41, and each is praiseworthy in its own right, but I promise you will fall in love with this tiny wonder. It is an incredible value at its price. And, yes, the sound output contains plenty of bass! Don't ask me how Sony did that. Sound engineering? Magic? I don't care.
I had it out of the box and paired with my Pixel 2, using NFC, in just a couple of minutes. I read the code on the instructions with the Pixel camera, and was was taken to the Playstore to install the Sony Music Center app.
The speaker has an illuminated surround which beats with the music. Its mode of operation can be changed or turned off. The little wonder is also water resistant and dust proof. And, no, I would not advise throwing it in the pool. But since accidents can happen, the water resitance is welcome.
It comes with a USB charging cable that works with any phone charger. There is no AC converter. Sony claims a 12 hour battery life. I have not fully tested that claim. I do know my wife listened to music all day yesterday while working in the yard, and she had run the speaker down by the time i got home. I charged it back up last night. It took several hours. The charge light was off when I woke up this morning. If I have one complaint with this speaker, it would be the charging time.
This speaker is just plain fun. I haven't carried it to beach yet, but that trip is coming. It has a party mode feature, allowing you to tap the front or sides and add your own drumbeat to the music you are dancing to.
You can also daisy chain this speaker to combine it with another Sony bluetooth speaker to share the sound in multiple locations, or expand the image of the sound in the same room.
Bluetooth range was just fine. I never lost signal anywhere in my home when I moved the speaker and phone around to different locations.
If you are considering any Bluetooth speaker for either music enjoyment or pure fun, or both, consider this one. If portability is a consideration, I don't see how there could be another choice.

Great Comfort: Flawless sound

I love these light in-ear neckband Bluetooth phones that seem to support every connection protocol. They come in a beautiful round, zippered leather case with a USB cable for charging he Lithium-ion battery and several sizes of ear adapters so that you can get the best fit for your ear canal.
The phones have Bluetooth 4.2 and Qualcomm® apt-X™, and supported profiles include A2DP 1.2, AVRCP 1.4, HSP 1.2, and HFP 1.6 - HD Voice, or higher. You can connect to two devices simultaneously, according to the specs, but I have not tested that feature.
The specs say that you can get a full charge in 1.5 hours and that the battery is good for 500 charges. I plugged in the convenient charging cable and the indicator LED went from flashing yellow to solid blue in less than 1.5 hours, and the I have listened to the phones now for a cumulative total of about 3 hours. My Pixel 2 indicates an 80 per cent charge remaining. The specs list a 6-hour battery life, and I have no reason to doubt that claim.
The phones are comfortable and completely non-fatiguing to wear. I wouldn't think you would buy these to wear as sport phones, so I really can't say how they would hold up under hard play or sports. They certainly stayed in my ears while walking around the house and carrying out day to day activities.
The sound is quite detailed, and the low bass is there. I had to fiddle with the adapter and wiggle it a little in my ear canal to get the tightest fit to extend the response into the lowest octave. I probably would have been better served to change the adapter to correct that problem, but I was enjoying the sound too much!
There was not a bit of mid- bass mud, and no stridency in the mid to higher frequencies. I listened to Joni Mitchell's Hissing of Summer Lawns and heard detail and nuance in the music I don't remember from the hundreds of times I have listened to that album -- and I started with much younger ears back in 1976!
I also tested the built-in microphone performance with my Pixel 2 to make and receive calls. I heard the caller, and I was heard clearly by the person calling. Frankly, I doubt I'll be using these Sennheisers much to answer my phone. I don't want to have my music interrupted.
The sound of these phones compares very favorably with several others that I use, including an over the ear model that is much more expensive. I am going to be using these a lot from now on.
Comfortable. Easy to pair and charge. Excellent sound. You put them on and forget about them. They are a vehicle to get to the music, and they deliver on that promise every time.

Problems Across Devices

One of the main selling points to AVG's product is availability across devices. While the Windows Program installed without flaws, I cannot say the same about the android install. You are given a serial number and instructions to download the software. You have to set up an AVG account, which I did. But in order to install for android devices, you are taken to Google Play where the free and paid versions of the AVG product are available. I downloaded the AVG product from the Google play, but when i tried to activate it, my registration was not picked up and I had to purchase a subscription for from Google play.
I essentially paid for a service that was supposed to be included in the Ultimate one year subscription.
I first installed the antivirus in my Pixelbook. Virus scanning seems to work fine, but the WiFi security feature cannot find my WiFi nodes through the Pixelbook. I attribute that issue to the fact that not all android apps are going be fully functional with the Pixelbook, and this is apparently one of them. The program thinks my Pixelbook is a cellphone, not a laptop.
The android app works better on my Pixel 2 phone, and, in fact, appears to be fully featured, with everything working. I think that is because I am using the "Pro" subscription that I activated through the Play store and paid extra for, but I am not sure.
The Windows 10 program is full featured, and was very easy to set up and carry out an initial scan. Upon install, it turned off Windows Defender, which I had hoped it would. Time will tell as to it's effectiveness and usability over the long run.
Security software companies operate in a very competitive environment. Time may prove this product to be more usable across devices, but given the initial problems experienced, I would could not recommend the product to the general user, who I would have experienced the same confusing set up process that I did and would have to pay for an additional subscription to make the product fully functional.

Flawless for some, including me

This beautifully- designed laptop would have to be described as a niche product, but what a beautiful niche it fills! The brushed aluminum and white glass finish is gorgeous. And the rubberized palm rests, lighted keyboard with responsive key travel, make the Pixelbook a joy to operate. The hinge system allows the screen to be folded into a “tent” or all the way over, emulating a tablet.
Chromebooks have already progressed to the point that for my needs, there are few, if any, tasks that I regularly perform which the Pixelbook cannot handle with aplomb. Use Outlook for mail? You are covered. Want to use Word, Excel, or any other Microsoft product? All their Android apps work nicely on a Chromebook.
In fact, I feel comfortable using the Pixelbook on the road. It serves all the needs of a typical business user. And it is incredibly fast with a seventh generation Intel core i5 processor and 128GB of RAM to totally satisfy any of my onboard storage needs. There is a headphone jack for those who need one, but I have greatly enjoyed listening to music over my Bluetooth headphones. The Napster android app works beautifully and flawlessly. Streaming Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu is a pleasure. The screen is beautiful, and it is a touchscreen. I have not used a touchscreen device in a while, and have enjoyed the availability of that feature. A stylus is available, but I have not purchased one yet.
Google Assistant works flawlessly with this laptop. “Ok Google” summons the service by default, or a dedicated key can be pressed to bring it up. As I am quite accustomed to that service through my Pixel Phone, I greatly enjoy that convenient feature. If a Wi-Fi connection is not available, the Pixelbook will automatically use my Pixel 2 as a wi-fi hotspot. As I type this, I have not had a chance to fully check out that feature.
Yes, there are things you can’t do with this device, like video editing, but the person who would be purchasing the Pixelbook will have evaluated their needs and have decided whether this device would fit their needs. These in-ear phones sound spectacular and stay in during activity. That seems to be a mechanical feat few competitors can match. The sound is very detailed with plenty of bass, thanks to the secure fit. My only complaint is with the microphone. I was not able to answer phone calls without some echo. But phones like these would be wasted for carrying on conversations. They are for listening to the music and do a spectacular job at that task. Well done!

Solid Performance and Value

I have used this monitor extensively for both word processing, media playback, and streaming, and I would grade the video performance as flawless. I have seen no evidence of any motion blur at all in watching various sporting events. I calibrated the monitor using the calibration tools in Windows 10 (type "Calibrate Display Color" into the task bar search window) and this enhanced its performance. This model does not ship with any calibration disk.
I use the a network TV tuner and software to watch local over the air TV, and it looks just great on this monitor.
The Monitor is feather-light, as very easy to set up out of the box. It comes with several cables, including an HDMI cable and a VGA.
The bezel is quite thin, and there are VESA mounting holes on the back, if you want to go that route.
It is hard to comprehend a 100,000,000:1 contrast ratio, but let me assure you the contrast is excellent. Since it is a back lighted LED monitor, however, a totally black screen is going to look dark gray because of the nature of the back lighting. This is seldom seen in ordinary operation.
A good, economical and large screen monitor for everyday use.

Great sound, great build, B&O quality

These headphones exude quality the first time you lay your eyes on them. And they don't disappoint when you listen.
They are so light and comfortable. The surrounds fit nicely over the ears, but do not effect long term comfort. And the seal enables excellent bass performance.
The sound, to me, was precise and detailed. I listened first through the available corded connection, even though these phones have a bluetooth radio. i wanted to have a frame of reference to evaluate the quality of the bluetooth sound.
Bluetooth pairing was easily accomplished with both a laptop and my Motorola android phone. The sound was excellent overall, although I think the corded sound produced the best quality.
You can pause, play and operate volume by using touch gestures on the side of the phones. It worked quite well.
The noise reduction can be turned on or off with a gesture, the switch on the side of the phone, or with the B&O android app. I have not had an opportunity to test it in a noisy enough environment to gauge it's effectiveness. I value these phones for their sound, appearance, comfort and construction quality over noise reduction.
The phones come with a velvet carrying bag which is shown in the picture. Added bonus: these phones have a removable battery which allows replacement when it wears out. Charging is done through a usb cable.
I love the sound, the feel, comfort and quality of these headphones. I have worn them for hours, just to enjoy the music. They are worth every penny of your investment, and if your experience is like mine, it will be a rewarding one.

You have to look at the specifications for the set. If it has a tuner, the feature will be listed. Some sets don't have a tuner. My Vizio model does not, and I knew it didn't. I tune my local channels with a TiVo. Silicon Dust makes a variety of boxes that tune both cable and over the air channels. If you have a smart TV, you can simply download an app to stream your local channels from the HD Homerun box.

Despite numerous requests, I see that both Amazon and Harmony will still not create a remote with number keys. There are apps that you can download for your Amazon Fire TV known as iptv services. But, you can't change channels without number keys!
I am using the Express without a keypad. You speak the channel, and Alexa and Harmony Express pull up the channel, whether you say "Go to Channel 10" or "Go to Fox". But do be advised that I am using a TiVo, where each channel has a specific number.

Can this be turned vertically in its stand?
The stand allows the screen to be titled several degrees up and down to suit your viewing angle. It does not allow rotation. To rotate the screen, you would need to rotate the stand, which is not that hard to do because the monitor and stand are relatively light.

How do I connect speakers to this montior
The speakers would be powered from your computer, not this monitor. It has video inputs only.

Is there a removeable screen protector on the monitor from the manufacturer? It appears to have a removeable film, but I'm worried it's supposed to be there and if I remove it then the monitor will be messed up.
There was no film on mine. The screen has a matte surface, not shiny.

I was wonder how big is the system meaning lenth, and is the sound very loud

I am attaching a picture with a conventional flashlight at the bottom for size comparison. The smaller SRS-XB21 is on the bottom, and the larger SRS-XB41 is on top. I have both. They each put out sound at a loud volume that belies their respective size, but the SB 41 is bigger with punchier bass, and a higher output. It will fill the largest room with loud, clear, detailed sound.

Will this system transmit Bluetooth signal to my hot tub Bluetooth speakers in my backyard?
From the product product specifications: These features allow you to setup multiple SRS-XB21 (or compatible speakers) together in a chain or specify their position individually. You can add up to 100 speakers it says but I have no way of testing that. It is nice to be able to add 2 of them and specify one for left channel and one for right. Here is a quick list of compatible speakers - SRS-XB21, SRS-XB31, SRS-XB41, SRS-XB20, SRS-XB30, SRS-XB40, GTK-XB60, GTK-XB90.
Are your hot tub speakers on this list above? If not, the answer is "no". But the Bluetooth radios on these units have a good range, and they are portable, so you could simply take the Sony to the hot tub.

Can I use my Samsung phone for the bluetooth to play music?
You should be able to do so. That is what the speaker is designed to do. It worked perfectly with my Pixel 2 smartphone.
