Cool looking fan! Does the job, but...

I love this fan! It has a very modern bladeless design, it's almost completely silent, and it moves a LOT of air in comparison to its size. We purchased it two weeks ago and have been using it nearly non-stop. Unfortunately, last night it started making strange noises while oscillating, Since the purchase was made with a repacement warranty, we're going to exchange it this afternoon.
PROs:
Attractive Design
Operates very quietly
Oscillates and tilts to direct airflow
Responsive & easy to use remote control
Tons of air movement (one afternoon I had it directed at me from 10ft and it kept me cool)
Easy to clean
CONs:
LED display is like a lighthouse beacon in a darkened bedroom
Targetting airflow to a specific point could be easier
New noise during oscillation after only two weeks

What would make this a PERFECT fan is adding a timeout to the LED display (or making it dimmable) and adding a timed laser pointer to assist targetting the airflow.

Brilliant concept, poor execution

I’d been seeing advertising for the Trackr Bravo online and thought it was a very clever idea. I frequently misplace my reading glasses or leave them at work and then need them at home. I also have keyless ignition on my car and have a tendency to leave the smart key in unusual places around the house. So, I made an impulse buy of a two-pack of the devices at Best Buy over Thanksgiving week end. I wanted to test them out with the idea that I might order a bigger lot of them to give as Christmas gifts. After using the devices for a couple weeks and actually losing (as in gone forever, not just temporarily misplaced) something, I’m rather glad I started small and didn’t waste more of my money on nearly useless gifts.
Here are my observations about the Trackr Bravo devices:
Package included two devices w/CR1616 batteries installed, two key rings, two adhesive disks and a set up guide. The set up guide is very basic and has no troubleshooting tips in the event your device is inoperable right out of the box. One of the batteries inside my devices was dead on arrival, so I purchased a new battery. Several days later, I read on the company web site that I should have contacted them for a replacement, because this is apparently a known and common issue.
The devices use Bluetooth to pair with my iPhone 6 and aside from the battery issue set up was pretty straightforward. I attached one device to the smart key for my car with the provided key ring and I put the other inside the case for my glasses. Then I tested the Phone Finder and Item Ringer features. Phone Finder works by pressing the button on the Trackr device and your phone plays a pleasant little ditty to say “Here I am!” Item Ringer works by tapping an icon in the app to make the Trackr device itself beep. Both features depend on the app being turned on, the range and stability of the Bluetooth signal, and HOLDING the button or icon until you hear the alert (instructions don’t mention the holding part). The volume on Phone Finder is great, even with my phone on mute and stuffed under the couch cushion I could hear it from most points in the house. The volume on Item Ringer, however, is sadly lacking. I could not hear its weak little whimper even when it was in plain sight less than six feet away.
After testing the active finding features, I next wanted to try the passive Separation Alert Feature, which is supposed to work when the Trackr Bravo and your paired iPhone are no longer within Bluetooth range of each other. It worked once as advertised, when I sent my husband out of the house with my smart key. Then in an attempt to test the range of the devices, I left my key and glasses home and went for a short walk with my iPhone (leaving the app on and watching the screen). No alerts occurred on either Trackr or the phone and I was well outside the stated 100’ Bluetooth Range AND the WiFi range of my home network. Within 15 minutes of returning home, my phone started intermittently sounding a Separation Alert every few minutes, even though one Trackr was mere inches from my phone and the other was ten feet away. This got quite irritating. I can only deduce the Bluetooth signal from these devices is very poor and unstable causing the app to think it was separated from one or both devices. The only way to stop it was to deactivate the Separation Alert feature within the app for both devices.
This brings me to the final feature I unwillingly tested just a few days ago. The Trackr company claims you can find lost items on a map using Crowd GPS. I wish it were so. I went Christmas shopping with my husband and had my smart key in my jacket pocket with the Trackr device still attached. My husband had the other smart key in his pants pocket. Keep in mind, the car doors can’t be locked or unlocked without a key nearby and the car will not start unless one of the two keys is inside the car. While we were inside the store, I removed my jacket and set it in the shopping cart. We decided to check out separately for reasons that are not relevant and I arrived at the car first. I unlocked the rear hatch (proving I still had my key at that point), stowed my packages and retrieved my jacket from the cart and put it back on then returned the cart to the corral we were parked right next to. My husband arrived and we got in the car and left. When we arrived at our next destination, I realized I didn’t have my key because I couldn’t lock the car until my husband came back near it. I immediately fired up the Trackr app and started searching for my key. We returned to the parking spot where I know I last had it, but it was nowhere to be found. Went back inside the store, checked their lost & found and left my name and contact info with them. My smart key is well and truly lost, the Trackr app Crowd GPS map shows its last known location is my home and has been ‘searching’ for it in vain for over 60 hours.
I really wanted to like this product and find it useful, but I can’t recommend it at all. My initial purchase was $39.99 for the Trackr devices plus $2.99 for a replacement battery plus $249 for a replacement smart key plus sales tax. I calculate that one Trackr Bravo device has cost me over $300 and it’s only useful feature is to ping my iPhone. I rarely misplace my phone anyway, and when I do I either call it or use the FREE ‘Find my iPhone’ app from another phone. My friends and family needn’t worry that they’ll be receiving a Trackr Bravo from me as a gift. I am so disappointed.
