Build or modify your own PC:Yes
Level of Expertise:Expert
Primary reason for building/modifying PC:Gaming
Runs all games I've played at 1080p with good frame rates, Tomb Raider, Assassins Creed Black Flag, Battlefield 4, etc. Easy to install, just has a bulky fan. Runs quiet and fairly cool on full load. I'm going to buy the liquid cooling system to make it even better though. Be interesting to test all the new games coming out this year. Don't spend the extra money on the GTX 660, I have it in my laptop, it's decent but Desktops are always more powerful. And it only has like a 20% lead over this card. Not worth it. My RIG
Acer M5800 Multimedia Desktop
8 gigs DDR3 Memory
Core 2 quad q9400, 2.67ghz.-Upgraded 650w Power Supply.
Etc.
What's great about it: Runs even new games on high settings, full 1080p, 2gbDDR5, quiet
What's not so great: Large

An Honest Review
on October 10, 2013

Age:35-44
Phone size:Just right
Kyocera and Nokia were one of the first cell phone companies out there, even in the 90's. And I remember them being virtually indestructible back then, I would think they are probably still VERY reliable. This one actually does work under water, I put it in the tub, yes in hot water for like 5 minutes with music playing, something I would never do when I purchase any product. But I wanted to see if it's true, even though I'm not accident prone. Took it out worked like a beast. Try that Iphone HA.
Overall every thing is great, the screen looks good, just turn it up to full brightness, although at an angle it get lighter and a strange tint to it. Which really isn't a big deal. Says 720p Video which I have yet to do, being that I have a 300$ Panasonic Lumix with 1080p video i probably won't use much. So we'll see. Takes good clear pictures, love the flash, helps a great deal. I replaced a ZTE Merit which was a tough little phone basically because it started getting slower, and was/is outdated with Android 2.3. This one just takes some getting use to.
Netflix streams flawlessly, music sounds loud and clear. Not a lot of bass, but I mean do you really need a subwoofer on a phone. Calls are crystal clear, almost to loud, but I consider that good as opposed to going huh? What did you say, your cutting out. Good wireless, works quick with a dual core 1 ghz processor. Not sure how or why some reviewers say it's slow, not sure what their definition of "fast" is.
At any rate if you've never heard of this brand don't be leary, it's one of the godfathers of cell phones. And after the water dunk I'm pretty convinced it will last a very long time. But then again technology changes every year on these things it seems. So it's a good priced smooth running very durable phone. Make sure you latch the back to seal it if you try to drop it in your toilet and then fish it out. HA. So I like it, simple as that. ;o) Good note to is I'm not sure why people don't use the speech to text feature on these phones instead of running people off the road finger texting. It works great.
What's great about it: Call Quality, Loud Speaker Phone, Water Resistant, Quick, Better than More Expensive Phones, Flash Camera
What's not so great: Battery Life, 4.1 Android takes some getting use to.

Compatible with...:PC
I've owned a 1TB WD for my Desktop since about 2009, had very few issues with it, just the usual quirkiness after about 4 years. Back in May I wanted something portable to back it up in case it finally went. Which could happen anytime. So I went with the portable Toshiba 1TB from Wal-Mart, which is slightly different from this one, which is the "Connect" version. For the price for 2TB portable which is the biggest you can find "as of now" to carry around with you, the price was unbeatable. I almost got the silver WD 2TB for 10 extra dollars, but actually was advised for "portable" use the Toshiba's were much more reliable for back up. Hearing stories of WD and Seagate not recognizing certain PCs or the back up programs not working correctly.
For this I use none of that, I just plug it in and back it up. Or transfer, quick, fast and simple. The build it great, like my 1TB portable it's very solid, only this one is a little bit fatter. Basically the same, just a little faster. So all in all thus far this one is great and after having the other portable HD for quite a few months now and having 0 problems, I said ok I'll stick with Toshiba. And I'm not disappointed. This was the last one so apparently people are/were buying these up like crazy. I don't care for Toshiba PC's anymore, but the hard drives are excellent. I'll update if I find out otherwise. Enjoy!!
Btw, anything beyond 2 TB is overkill. The 3TB desktop ones are good for a good price, but unless you own a big business with 100's and 100's of huge files, you'll never use the space. Mine is mostly for media/videos/game ISOs.
What's great about it: good build, fast 2.0 and 3.0, price, portable
What's not so great: bulky but still portable
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good Looks, Poor Performance

For starters i've always liked Toshiba, but never have been an AMD fan. Mainly because they can't hold a candle to the raw computing power of Intel. Graphically the GPU in this is great, yest just 1 GPU, it does NOT i repeat not have DUAL GRAPHICS. Just the 7640, like any other. Gaming is great, mutitasking from the A8 is pretty pathetic to say the least. The cores only utilize performance, mainly in gaming, and very few programs. Unlike intel where they are in constant use, no matter what program you're running. I have headphones that are louder than the horrid speakers in this unit. They keyboard is flat and has little to no flex what so ever. I've missed about 10 keystrokes just in this small review so far.
The track pad, and scroll bar are very fickle, and only work when they feel like it, it seems. And the overall feel of he computer is pretty shabby, and cheap feeling. Especially the lid. The performance is just awful, pages hang programs lag, typical of AMD these days. I have a new Gateway for work that i use with a Dual Core Celeron and it's even faster than this. (Not for gaming or graphics) but for all else. Also the Gateway is made about 10x better than this thing. So i'm taking this back today because i can tell it's just not what i thought it would be. Read the few reviews there are, since it's new. They are all pretty bad, and say the same thing. What happened to you Toshiba?? You use to be the best.
What's great about it: Looks good, Good GPU, Nice Screen, HDD Size
What's not so great: Keyboard sticks, Horrible Track Pad, Horrible Audio, Sluggish Performance, Mediocre Build Quality

Truth

I own an Xbox One and even back in the 360 days Dark Souls always ran better on PS3. Developers don't try very hard to fully optimize these games on Xbox One Systems. Fact not fiction, just like why PS4 has never had Forza or Gears. Two different sets of talents, and two VERY different architectures. The same in some cases, but for games like this, NOPE. Framerates are awful on this version, way down in the 20's at points.

Bought this yesterday after it was referred by a member at best buy.. and it's GARBAGE.. I just wanted something simple to do one or two things on (I don't download or stream or play games or anything) and I primarily use ONE program (for my cricut vinyl machine) and it froze up on me 2 times last night in an hour after starting it and ctrl+alt+delete wouldn't even work.. I had to hold power button to get it to shut completely off.. This is going back today!!!!

Windows 10

Just remember Windows 10 if the final operating system from Microsoft, it will just do constant updates from now on. These will cause the computer to slow down, even freeze. I still use Windows 8, have 0 problems. I refuse to upgrade to 10. IMO it's just horrible, and bogs down even the fastest of machines.

Just replace HDD to SSD
By MIRO
I have replaced HDD to SSD and now is good enough to do my regular basics.
Cons: I have to remove all screws from the bottom and whole bottom cover.Only one screw was holding hard drive base. Bought PNY SSD from Best Buy also, unfortunately cloning software included with hard drive is not cloning properly so I had to install fresh windows and touch pad stop working while installing because of lack of driver so usb mouse come handy. After installing windows computer download necessary drivers and touch pad start working again

Then you void the warranty, even if it's an extended one, unless you pay a LOT of money for someone like ME, or the Geek Squad to install it. Even still, it might. Asus make all of their own parts which is why they are very reliable (stock), so I think paying another 100$ or more for an SSD is pretty pointless. Just get another more expensive, faster laptop. Also SSD's are overrated, and these don't come with discs. You'll have to back up the restore partition on the HDD in the computer first. And then HOPE it transfers on to the SSD. Just my opinion.

Does not respond to commands & it quit last Sunday
By DesertJim
Mouse pad gave problems so I got a real mouse which helped. Still the screen often does not respond to the mouse, i.e., click on a box & start typing & nothing happens or check boxes & the checks do not show up. Also, it hangs at times where nothing can be done then after several seconds to a couple of minutes it resumes. Two days ago that "hang" ended w/ a black screen and could not get it back until the next day. Battery logo would sometimes save it is powered but not charging even though it was plugged in...pushing harder on the connectors did not fix that.

Window 10
August 3, 2016
They just rolled out a new Windows 10 update, unfortunately everything you described is a driver issues. The mouse pad will freeze or be unresponsive during updates. And the screen goes black because it's updating your Video Driver. The hanging is definitely updates. This major update is a very large file, and it just rolled out 2 days ago for all windows devices. So you should give it time. That's why I don't like windows 10, but you don't really have a choice if you want a new PC. That or get a Mac Book.

Would you or should you buy One?
By REBoland
Pickup preordered phone on 4/21. Once Best buy was done setting up the phone part, it was up to me to get all the apps, file, contacts, photos, etc off my old phone Note 4 on to new phone s8 Plus.
With my old phone having 32gb and my new phone have 64gb there was no worrying about bring able to get everything from my old phone to my new phone.
First I used ATT Mobile Transfer app over Wi-Fi but was limited to 16gb for transfer, which of core I had more then that, so unchecked a few things and off it went transferring for old to new over my home WIFI said would take 1 hour and a half, with AC net work only took about 45 minutes. Then ran again to get my videos transferred. But ran into a problem my video alone were over the max 16gb limit. So went with Samsung Smart Switch over WI-FI (note can do USB cable too)which had no limits and took a long time but transferred all my apps, file, contacts, photos, etc to new Phone. Then only took a few minutes for everything to be installed and setup on new phone.
This phone is fast, so much faster then my Note 4. Now looking and the size of the phone the s8 plus is just as tall but not as wide compared to my Note 4. But I found if so much easer to use with one hand due to the narrow body. Battery life has been very good up at 4 am and is now almost 11 am and at 71%, now I have not been using it every minute since I work up but I have been collecting game rewards every hour or so and playing a few other games between collecting rewards.
Talked on Phone for about 40 minutes and no problems, clear sound and not dropped while driving about 20 miles across town.
So after only one day I would recommend the you should by One! With the monthly program service that ATT does it is affordable for most. Thank you for reading!

I purchased this tv after sitting out for over 12 hrs at best buy during black Friday 2016. I have lupus so that was a task for me just to get a good deal but I sacrificed it anyway because I'm unemployed due to my health and have very little extra money for a brand new tv. Anyway, we got it home and to my dismay the picture quality is poor, IMO, its bright and not 4K quality even on HD channels or using a good dvd player to watch movies, Setup with the android cell phone was a chore (none too fun), and our iPhone, ipad or microsoft laptop forget about it...it took over 1hr to figure out that you needed to add google chrome search engine or other apps that were in a different version already on the devices. After setup we were finally able to watch the tv but the sound quality was low and we had to turn the tv up to level 25 or 30 to hear a casted program. After all of this 48hrs later I'm sleeping as this tv is in my room and I jumped up out of my sleep because someone is talking in my house. The tv is off but the sound was going for about 5 secs. I was almost livid as it takes me forever to get asleep due to meds and lupus. Anyway, I blew it off but kept it in mind and said to myself if it happens again I'm taking it back because foresight is better than hindsight any day. Well later that night on wed exactly 7 days later (btw I didn't put the tv up til 4 days after purchase, so this is after 3 days of use) it did that sound coming thru with no picture again and almost made me fall out of my very high bed. If I keep this tv with all of these signs and it goes out its not best buys or Toshibas fault....ITS MINE!!! I'm very upset and I hope they can give me a comparable tv for the same price or all of my sitting out for hours with lupus was done in vain. Returning today!!

Well
June 2, 2017
I had a girlfriend pass away back in 2011 from severe lupus. And not to sound harsh, but the last thing on her mind was using her money to purchase a "new TV". Also why would you sit for 12 hrs on Black Friday, knowing you have this condition. And that you're unemployed. IMO, if you can sit and wait (outside) for 12 hrs to purchase this, surely you can work a job, that's 8hrs or less. Or you should have had someone else get it for you. So I don't think anyone's going to feel sorry for you, when they read your review. Also my girlfriend worked up until the day she died. Yes it was hard, and she had to sit down a lot during her shift. But she did it. So when I read this, it's very much and insult to her. And hurtful that you would use that as an excuse. Especially to buy a TV!! Sorry get your priorities straight bud. Thanks

Is this laptop good for programming?

No the AMD series even though semi-speedy are no I5 or even i7, which is what you'll definitely need. Spend a little more and get one of those. If you notice all AMD series processors are very cheap in PC's. That's why. Also some are just to slow to even use for everyday tasks.
