Decent Budget Option for Daily Use
on November 16, 2023
Posted by: KaeL
I had been on the market for a decent casual band for my Apple Watch that I could use when doing daily activities that wasn't silicone or rubbery, could be comfortable and breathable while still being pretty durable since I was killing my leather band using it in situations I probably shouldn't have. I wasn't sure if this Insignia Braided Nylon band would fit my needs but I was eager to find out. At first glance I wasn't sure if I would like it due to it's super simple and somewhat plain look but looks can be deceiving. The nylon has some surprising stretch to it and is extremely comfortable to wear. The ability to adjust its fit despite it being a single piece band is a great touch and makes me confident that this won't be like some others I have tried that have stretched out and becomes too big for me after a very short time. The quality of the nylon seems to be great and should hold up well. Only time will tell if the nylon as well as the hardware will truly hold up with daily use, particularly the hardware but it looks promising

Great Option

I'm always looking for reliable surge protector options to help power and protect the numerous tech gadgets I have in my home (which numbers seem to grow daily) so I was more than interested in trying this Rocketfish 7-Outlet Protector option. I was glad to see that it included a USB-C port as well as a USB port that provides a total of 32W of power so I can fast charge some of my devices when needed. The one 6 foot braided power cord gives me lots of placement flexibility which is always appreciated. The addition of the Phone/Ethernet jacks are great for those that opt for ethernet connection. Setup was fairly simple as far as attaching the 2 stands at the bottom of the surge protector and the slim profile is helpful since it doesn't take up a lot of space like a couple of my other surge protectors in my home. So far this works exactly as expected and I am able to comfortably fit the plugs I need to on it without having issues with crowding. The only thing missing from this that isn't a must but is nice to have is a built-in backup battery for those instances where power may go out but you want to still be able to power some of your devices until power is restored. Overall I really like this one even without the perk of that feature.

Great Protection Option

I always order screen protectors to have ready for when my new iPhone arrives so I can have my investment protected the second it comes out of the box. I usually go with non-glass screen protectors because I generally am only concerned about scratches occurring from everyday use versus being too concerned about cracks so I never really considered the glass options. I was also concerned about glass possibly altering the sensitivity of the touchscreen despite being an extremely popular choice so I was wary of trying the Insignia Anti-Reflective Glass Screen Protector. I was pleasantly surprised and truly impressed with this as soon as I installed it. The process was super simple thanks to the included alignment tool which is a simple tray as well as the wet and dry cloths, dust removal adhesive and polishing cloth. Once installed the screen felt smooth like the iPhone screen and I noticed absolutely no sensitivity impairments. It fit perfectly in the Insignia case I have as well as 2 other branded cases. I can't speak on how well it holds up to serious drops or impacts but so far no issues. And I have noticed better viewing in bright light areas without glare so that's a positive. I like that you receive 2 protectors so you can either share or have a backup on hand if needed. Overall I am impressed and think I may finally be a fan of glass screen protectors!

Great Budget Friendly Option
on November 2, 2023
Posted by: KaeL
I am an avid iPhone user that loves to make sure my investment is properly protected as soon as I take it out of the box but also want keep the bulkiness to a minimum. I was intrigued with this particular case thanks to it being clear which allow the color of my iPhone to peek through while also having a cute yet simple design so it wouldn't be just a generic clear case. This case fits perfectly. It doesn't add much bulk or weight to the device which is exactly something I look for. The plastic and rubber sides feel like great quality for a budget option. It isn't so stiff and hard that it doesn't have enough flex to pop the case on and take it off with ease but it isn't so flexible and loose that it feels like it would easily stretch out or anything. It's way too soon to know if it will face the yellowing of the plastic and rubber that a lot of clear cases tend to experience but I'm hopeful that it won't be much of a concern any time soon. And while I haven't had any major drops at this time it has safely handled the normal short distance drops I have had both on carpeted areas as well as hardwood and tile in my home.
I would definitely recommend others give this case a try. Especially if you tend to go for similar style cases that offer some protection without being bulky and more heavy duty. It is a great budget friendly option that will fit most users needs.

Nice Option

I always browsed Casetify iPhone cases but hesitated to purchase because of the price and not knowing how well they really hold up. When this Impact Case with MagSafe for the iPhone 15 Pro Max I wasn’t sure about the image design. At first glance I thought it was too bright and odd for me but once I put it on my phone I started to like it. The way this case is made it is clear on the back with the designs sitting on top. This allows some of your phone color to show through. So far the case feels like a nice quality item. The edges are semi black with some slight shimmer/glitter. Nothing too over the top. The material that goes around to sides of the phone feels like a jelly-like material that was easy to slip my phone into with a nice fit. My only initial gripe/concern seems to be choice that other cases did not. The action button on the iPhone is the only one that is exposed. It’s not a huge deal but if you were worried about some of the complaints that have been made with chassis discoloration you might not be thrilled with this. It’s not a deal breaker but would be nice if it was covered. Time will tell if the quality holds up but so far it seems to be doing what I need.

Great option

I have tried several electric shavers for women that claim to be the best one but usually tend to fall short. This one pleasantly surprised me. It’s a pretty simple and uncomplicated device offering several options with multiple attachments to help reach virtually any grooming needs you may have. It’s lightweight body and its shape makes it comfortable to hold in your hand while also easy to maneuver. The ability to use it wet or dry is also convenient. The exfoliation glove was actually a great addition that I thought I wouldn’t have a need for. The battery life after full charge is more than adequate for my needs and seems to be pretty accurate with the up to 40 minutes of life claim. And most importantly for me and anyone with sensitive skin, its claims of being gentle are more than just words. I was able to use each head with absolutely no irritation to my skin which is huge for me. The skin stretcher cap is a huge plus for those tricky areas where you want a closer shave but need to get the skin taut. Overall, it’s a great option without all the frills a more complex option may have.

Excellent Option

Logitech has long been a quality brand for most of my tech accessory needs so I had high expectations for this. I have not been disappointed. For those that tend to spend a lot of time on devices that do not come with a keyboard like a tablet because of the ease of getting a lot of your asks done without needing to pull out a laptop or sit at a desktop a wireless keyboard can absolutely come in handy on those occasions where to need to type a lot of text and tapping on the virtual keyboard can seem to slow you down a bit. This is the category i fall into often so my real interest was in how well this would work in that specific scenario.
Setup was super simple. The keyboard connected to my iPad with in seconds. I also paired it to 2 other devices (a MacBook Pro and a Windows laptop) to to test out the feature that allows you to easily switch between devices with a tap of an assigned button. This feature worked seamlessly and comes in handy when working on multiple devices at once to be able to move between them and complete tasks without needing to do a lot of tedious maneuvers.
The keyboard is compact and lightweight while still being quite durable which I appreciate. The added bonus is that you don’t have to worry about charging it or hoping that you can complete whatever you are working on before it needs juice thanks to it’s impressive 3-year battery life claim. The keys are comfortable to type on and are relatively quiet. The function keys have worked seamlessly between my devices despite them not all sharing the same operating system.
Overall, I think this is a great budget friendly keyboard option for virtually every user out there. It gives you the versatility you need to be able to truly type on a physical keyboard without needing a bulky option or having to worry about yet another electronic device that needs to be charged.

Simple to use with great results
on August 18, 2023

With all of the heightened concern I and my family have had with our online security and personal info floating around in the cyber world I am always seeking the best ways to protect our devices and our info. Using the McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard proved to be a simple to use heavy hitter when it came to seeking out what was lurking online and doing something about it. It’s eye opening to see just how many data broker sites that exist solely to profit from our info. McAfee’s full service removal and data cleanup feature does a pretty good job seeking out things and helping have it removed as well as letting you know what sites collect AND sell your info without your permission. It was also great at finding those long forgotten online accounts you have created (I was surprised how many were still out there from my college years!) as well as identifying accounts that may have been exposed to data breach events.
I have used a different brands monitoring service that was meant to track my various ID, email accounts, financial account numbers, etc that failed to alert me to issues before I found out via other methods so I was hesitant when it came to McAfee’s claims. As irony would have it on day one this one alerted us to an issue with an account I share with my college aged son which lead us to finding some identity theft activity occurring. This alone won me over. This program alone isn’t enough to fully protect you but it definitely helps keep you in the loop so you can spring into action before things get out of hand. This is definitely worth trying if you have even a little concern about your personal info in today’s world

Sony Does It Again
on June 14, 2023
Posted by: KaeL
Having tried my fair share of speakers, including various Sony options I was excited to give this one a try. I initially expected it to be similar to the large size Sony speaker I have had for about 4 years now...thinking that it would be virtually a carbon copy with a few upgrades but I was definitely surprised by the differences.
When the box was delivered I immediately realized before even getting a chance to open it that this one was bigger than anticipated. It is definitely taller than the Sony Extra Bass GTK-XB72 that I have and a bit heavier it seems, but not necessarily wider. It does have the customary lights that I have come to expect on most Sony speakers although it's a little more subdued compared to the Extra Bass I mentioned. Setup was fairly simple, especially since I already had the associated apps (Sony Music Center and Sony Fiestable) downloaded. Even without using the apps pairing and setup is extremely simple for anyone to do. The top of the speaker has one actual button to power the speaker on and off. The. remaining controls are touch (Bluetooth, Optical In for the TV Sound Booster, Audio In, USB, Light, Mega Bass, and the typical controls for play/pause and volume). There is also an area with a rubber door on the back where you can plug-in various devices or audio sources such as the Optical In for the TV Sound Booster as well as the place where the charging cable goes. Speaking of charging, it charges fairly quickly but you can also use it while it is charging if necessary. You can also use the speaker to charge other USB devices that you connect to it. Sony also put 2 wheels on this speaker to help make moving it around that much easier...something that is not included on my other speaker and is much appreciated.
I initially tested this out playing various genres of music to see how well the sound performed. As expected, Sony continues to provide quality sound regardless of what music I threw it's way. Even without using the Music Center App to tweak sound profiles it provided rich sound across the board, particularly with the Mega Bass engaged. The omnidirectional sound quality is evident. Within the app you can truly customize the sound how you would like it so I think virtually anyone would be happy with the possibilities. The various lighting options are always fun so you can pick the vibe you're looking for...or if you prefer eliminate the light show if that's not your thing. Keeping with Sony tradition, if you have multiple Sony speakers you can chain up to 100 eligible ones to play simultaneously so that you can have the audio playing everywhere that you needed it. I have several varying sized Extra Bass speakers and all worked with the Party Connect feature. This is great if you are like me and already own compatible speakers for the feature but if you don't own other Sony speakers that are compatible or you only own other branded speaker then you won't get to enjoy that experience. I did test out the TV Sound Booster feature by connecting it with the included Optical In cable and was impressed with how well it enhanced the tv watching experience. It isn't a feature I would use often since I already have sound bars and home audio system setups for my tv's but if I didn't have that and didn't want to invest in a system like that I would gladly use this speaker to fit that need.
The only "con" I personally experienced (and I wouldn't; exactly call it a con) has always been an issue for me and that is the use of the Sony Music Center app. When it works it works great, but when it doesn't it can be a bit frustrating. I did experience an issue with the app being able to properly recognize the speaker but it is an intermittent thing I have always experienced with all of my Sony speaker and why I often opt to go the bluetooth route and stream my audio that way. But when you really want to have full access to the customization options that is the place to go. The app isn't absolutely necessary but it's good to have when you want to use it. The Fiestable app is one of those things that can be fun when needed but isn't something I often use. It's great for when you want to let others get in on the playlist fun by adding their music choice to the list from their own device. I tested it out with others in my household just to see if it still works as I recall and it does. Everyone does have to be on the same wifi network in order to join the party playlist but once they are they can help make the most epic playlist for your party. The other use for this app feels a bit gimmicky to me but some may find fun....the Party Light feature that lets your mobile device emit light that is determined by the speaker lighting. It might be fun BUT it is a huge battery drain. It continues to exist all of these years so I imagine a lot of users really enjoy it. I haven't noticed any real changes to the functionality of these two apps over the years so I'm not too inclined to use them often.
Overall, this is a great option for your party needs allowing you to take it anywhere while not having to worry about plugging it up. Sony continues to knock it out of the park with their speaker offerings so I feel like you really can't go wrong with choosing any of their lineup.

A Scale That I Never Knew I Needed!
on May 27, 2023
Posted by: KaeL
I admittedly never considered a scale as anything more than a way to track your weight loss or gain so the idea of the Withings Body Smart Advanced Body Composition Scale intrigued me. With a family history of various health concerns I have started to pay attention to as much of my health details as possible using various smart devices and apps to help me better understand things.
Setting this scale up was fairly simple. Downloading the Withings app and following the guided prompts made it quick although an update was required and slowed things down a little. Once past all of that I was able to setup my profile and connect the data recorded by the scale to my iPhone Health App as well as other apps that I use so that an even wider collection of my health data could be compiled. Being able to share a report that includes your data like weight details like BMI and Fat Mass, Resting Heart Rate, Activity details, etc is also extremely helpful.
Seeing info that delves deeper than just my weight in pounds was eye opening. The Body Composition Breakdown was especially refreshing giving details or Visceral Fat Index, Lean Mass, Water Mass, etc as well as the corresponding result made it clear what areas needed to be worked on and where I was doing well. There is also an area where you can track your food intake. Although the app shares data with other apps that I choose as well as the iPhone Health App there are a few places you can view all or almost all of the data instead of relying on each individual app, but the insights and informative info provided in the Withings app definitely makes it beneficial to use the Withings App frequently. There are some tracking options that require other Withings products if interested but I found that it's not necessary if you have other devices that already track that data. It is also a nice touch to see info like local air quality appear on the scale screen after weighing yourself for the day. It's not a need but it's a nice feature to see along with the other info that cycles through (such as the BMI info and others that will also be seen in the app if you are like me and sometimes don't fully pay attention to the details cycling on the scale).
Overall this is a product I never realized that I needed but completely appreciate now.

LCD"s

I"ve heard that LCD"s after you"ve had them for awhile get "burn" marks on the screen, is this true?
I think the risk existed more in the past (especially on LCD monitors), but I think that it's pretty rare. Plasma's were more prone to it, but I think they are better now. They still run a risk but it's not as easy as it once was.
