Will not pass-thru Dolby Vision
on January 29, 2017

Hello,
Yesterday I received information from Yamaha support about the 1060 that I feel needs to be shared with people looking at this year's AVENTAGE line.
According to Yamaha, this receiver will not pass thru the Dolby Vision HDR information to the TV, so if you plan on using devices such as Chromecast Ultra, Roku or 4k UHD bluray, you will be out of luck.
I feel burned by this purchase. This receiver is obsolete already.
Here is the statement from Yamaha:
"Steve,
The RX-A1060 does not support Dolby Vision and cannot be upgrade to do so, it does not have the hardware.
Best Regards,
The Yamaha Customer Support Team"

This is my 3rd Yamaha receiver, I've always been a fan of the clean amp power, build quality and superior design. This one is no different. Music sounds so crisp and clean its amazing! The Android app is top notch, works on both my tablet and my phone. You can customize this thing to fit your needs. Want to listen to FLAC streaming from a PC while watching the football game?? You can do it. Internet Radio while playing PS3?? You can do it. Dolby Digital Plus from Netflix? No problem!
I've set up 2 DNLA servers on my PC: Windows Media Player for MP3 and Media Monkey for FLAC. This receiver browses both servers with no problem, plays the music with tags, and has the ability to minimize the UI so that you can watch TV ( or whatever you like ) while the music plays. Same goes for FM radio / Net Radio / or USB playback.
This unit is amazing, highly recommended!!!
What's great about it: sound quality / Android app control / FLAC decoding / network functions / YPAO speaker setup
What's not so great: nothing is not so great about this thing!
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is a fantastic release from Iron Maiden. The video quality is fantastic and they've included both DTS-MA and PCM multi-channel audio for both the movie and the live tracks! Not only are the technical specs top notch, but the performance from Maiden is excellent too!! An absolute "must have" for any Maiden fan.
Even casual rock fans will enjoy the documentary just because this tour was unlike any other in rock history!! Band, crew, and gear, all together on a customized 757!! Bloody Brilliant!!!!
What's great about it: Iron Maiden in HiDef !!!!
What's not so great: that its not 12 hours long!!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Experience stunning pictures and vivid colors on this 65-inch LG OLED 4K smart TV with HDR. Since the pixels can be individually controlled, the blacks appear deeper and the colors more vibrant. This LG OLED 4K smart TV uses webOS 3.0 to let you easily connect to streaming services and mobile apps.

Worth every penny!
By LRshawn from Little Rock
I struggled for weeks with this purchase. I needed a 65" TV for our new home and along with the B6, I was also looking at the Sony 940D and 930D. I used to own a Kuro Pioneer Elite Plasma 4-5 years ago and since buying a LED, have missed the nice inky blacks and sharp picture. Currently we have a Sony XBR 55X850B. After all of the 5 star reviews I've read on the B6, i felt that was the TV for me. However, after going in to Best Buy, I started looking at the 3 TV's listed and the B6 looked rather dark compared to the 2 Sony's. I know the Sony's are rated at a couple hundred NIT's higher in brightness than the LG, but the LG really looked dismal. The contrast on the LG was great, but it crushed the blacks in the shadows. Since Best Buy always has their TV's playing looped 4K video's of Gecko's and and waterfalls, I wanted to know what these TV's would do with the 1080p that most of my channels are on Dish Network. For this I streamed 1080p trailers of movies over wifi with YouTube. I set my phone up as a wifi hotspot rather than use the slow store wifi. This is what I recommend anyone whose looking to purchase a TV do. The 4K looped videos make anything look good. After watching several trailers on the 3 TV's the LG's dismal brightness just wasn't cutting it, but to be fair the 930 wasn't doing a very good job of upscaling the 1080 content it was receiving. The 940 fared better, but wasn't as good as the LG. My complaint with the LG always went back to how dim the panel looked compared to the Sony's. The B6 was mounted high and the store lights really drowned the picture quality of the LG. I had decided on the Sony 940. As i waited on them to get the TV, i walked around an end cap and noticed the B6 in a 55". Man was it bright, you could see all of the details in the shadows that the 65" B6 was missing. I went with my gut and told the guy to get the LG B6. When i got home, i was pleasantly surprised at the easy set up of the B6. Straight out of the box, the panel is near perfect. I plan on getting a professional calibration, but with just a few adjustments I made, 5 stars isn't a high enough rating. One of the things I hated about my Sony was watching concerts at night. With all of the light effects and strobes, the picture became a garbled mess with pixelization. The LG performs perfectly retaining its sharpness and contrast and color. This is one TV you don't want to pass up if you can pony up the funds! I decided the displayed 65" B6 was either bad, or somebody had messed with the settings. All these 5 star reviews are spot on, and so is this LG B6!

My Best Buy also has the 65 inch B6 way up high and its kind of hard to look at from that angle. I'm glad to hear your comments, thank you!

True Gaming Console. Not a media player.
By MusicGuy
For $400, its a steal. This unit packs some serious punch for pennies on the dollar. All this fuss about no 4k blu ray player this and that. They cut out the fat and kept this machine what it should always be. A gaming system. 30$ a pop for uhd movies on disc is just silly. Your money is going into the graphics dept. and nothing more. IT's a GAMING console, not an overpriced UHD disc movie player. I would never use my PS4 for blu ray movies anyways. I have a dedicated blu ray player for that. Why wear out your drive motor for movies when its meant for GAMES! I think over the years I have watched gamers get more and more spoiled and they complain over almost anything. The graphics chip in this unit is worth about $250 alone! AT $400 you want a 4k Blu Ray disc player as well?! SMH, Go buy your Highly under powered XBONE S. But hey, it has a 4k blu ray player and processing power at 1/3 the power of a Ps4 Pro! Sounds not a like a good deal to me, considering its a Gaming Console! lol.

4 Blu-ray not a deal breaker
By Tonyboy61967
Honestly I don't get why poeple are making a huge about the ps4 pro not having a 4k bluray. Who still buys the physical disc now in days? They are pretty much obsolete, such as when the cassettes got overshadowed by bluray. Sony is aiming for the future. In the future NO ONE is going to have discs, everything is going to be in a digital library. The last time I ever bought a bluray disc was in 2011. I asked all my friends, some average people, some more tec oriented, and none of them could remember the last time they bought a blurray. Now we have services such as netflix, Hulu, youtube, etc.(and probably a lot more in the future) that provide 4k quality with tons of diversity and at the fraction of the cost of bluray discs.

Don't fixate on the 4k Blu Ray
By MoJo3y
I was disappointed as well, until I noticed that a 4k Blu Ray disc is about $25-$30 per disc! That's outrageous to me. Until the price of these things go down, it's not a necessity. I'd rather spend that money on games and Netflix, tbh. The Scorpio is intriguing, but who knows when that will be a reality. The PS4 Pro gets me my 4k gaming needs now. Please don't mention PC gaming, and how it can display "native 4k." Who cares!! This thing is a gaming monster, for only $400. A decent PC rig costs $600+.

HDR10 Yes, Dolby Vision No
February 3, 2017
This will pass HDR10 Yes, but it will not pass Dolby Vision thru to the TV.
Plenty of Dolby Vision content exists. Amazon and Netflix and VUDU have it.

UPDATE: Yamaha announced firmware update
April 18, 2017
Hello, Since I gave this AVR a bad review, I felt obligated to post an update. Yesterday Yamaha Europe announced that this model, the 1060 will get a firmware update later in 2017 that will give it Dolby Vision and HLG support. This is great news for existing customers! Once the firmware is released, yes, this is a 5 star receiver, and I def would recommend it to anyone.
Thanks Yamaha for doing the right thing and supporting your loyal customers!!
