The premium vacuum and mop solution like no other. It’s the only 2-in-1 with D.R.I. (Dry Rug Intelligence) means the Roomba Combo™ j7+ uses carpet detection and the Auto Retract Mopping System that lifts itself to the top of the robot, completely away from carpet preventing wet messes entirely. On hard floors, it vacuums and mops at the same time. The 4-Stage Cleaning system combines our Edge-Sweeping Brush, Dual Multi-Surface Rubber Brushes, Power-Lifting Suction and first-of-its-kind mopping with added pressure for a thorough clean. It's all designed to keep your carpet and hard floors cleaner while avoiding obstacles at the same time—so you can live your life.

A good little house keeper
on October 25, 2022
Posted by: Fred
My current Smart vacuum wasn't quite cutting it which is why I looked for a new one. I came across this particular one as it both mopped and vacuumed (my current dumb one simply vacuumed).
Pros:
-vacuums and mops
-accurately maps the floor space quickly and efficiently
-does a decent job of vacuuming
-battery last several hours (~3) per charge/cleaning trip
-can avoid objects and cautiously bumps into things (except if you close a door, will hit that hard several times)
-seems to hold a fair amount of dirt
Cons:
-has difficulty if the carpet is shag (think 1/2-1" shag on a hardwood floor)
-mopping is not that great; leaves streaks and mainly has 3 water trails associated where the jets are
-removing dirt to base is exceptionally loud
-requires bags
A little about my household; the main level (where the vacuum is) is wall to wall laminate flooring with several area rugs throughout, each with a different length, and ~2000 sq ft. Two adults with one dog (long haired Australian shepherd) and two cats (short hair); needless to say there is a fair bit of hair around the house at any given time. My original smart vacuum for this space was able to vacuum the area alright if you put it on "high" mode but had issues with mapping the space, separating rooms and going to locations, and was REALLY bad about smacking into boundaries. Effectively, the railing leading along the stairs going down is exceptionally dented and scuffed up from the vacuum trying to clean the area. Moreover, it is a large space to mop and so the laminate flooring isn't cleaned as often as it should be.
Enter the the j7, hopefully the solution to all of my current problems with cleanliness. The vacuum arrives in a relatively small box which is a direct representation of its ultimate foot print in your house (the vacuum is sitting on its dock in the box). The great is that it comes with extra components for some of the routine maintenance items (extra brush and filter) as well as trial cleaning solutions. Set up was easy; there is a card on the top that walks you though but it really is only 3 steps: get base out, plug base in, put robot on base. I messed up the last part as I put it on facing the wrong direction as that is how the other vacuum went (the j7 goes face first into the base). I started immediately mapping the space (doing the mapping function which only maps and does NOT clean; you have the option of just having it clean). The unit was about 1/2 charged out of the box and so ran for about 2 hours mapping. The map was surprisingly accurate, especially compared to the other smart vacuum I have. A second clean run the next day once fully charged (a 3 hour or so job) effectively mapped the entire foot print of the house. Where the unit struggled was the area run in the entry way which is a shag run; it viewed it as an obstacle and mapped around it like it was a wall but also occasionally would go over a corner so knows its a rug. Once mapped, it was easy to set up rooms as well as new cleaning jobs where you can send the unit to specific rooms to vacuum or mop. The mopping is about what you would likely expect, not as good as if done by hand but not horrible. I sent the robot to clean the kitchen where there is no area rugs (2 entry way rugs next to doors), doing both vacuuming and mopping. Best I can figure is what the unit does is vacuums rugs and then mops the rest as I didn't hear any vacuum sounds while mopping. If this is true, you will likely want to have the unit vacuum first if there is a large amount of dirt prior to mopping. The mopping was very systematic but streaky and the supplied cleaner left a film. I will play around with trying more traditional floor cleaning solutions (vinegar in water) next time i use the mopping function. The stow and go pad for mopping is really cool; the unit needs zero clearance to stow and retrieve its mop head; mine was partially under the cupboard when it put the mop head away to go back to dock, no issue.
All in all, I like this cleaner immensely more than my other robot vacuum; it cleans well enough and prevents the build up of hair in our home, has a good algorithm for mapping and control. The downside, is its mopping isn't impressive, it struggles with high carpet, it isn't bag-less, and its a bit pricey. I can't speak to how long it will last in such a hair filled house but would recommend it as a weekly or more friend to help keep your house tidy.

Pretty Standard External HD
on July 25, 2021
Posted by: Fred
from MO
So I already had an external solid state drive that I was using with my Xbox One X but I do not like to remove games so the 2 TB drive was close to getting full. Rather than by another generic drive I decided to try buying a larger HD that is built specifically for gaming; where the HD is constantly on and actively reading and writing. I picked up this WD drive. I did not notice anything too great about it compared to the generic external HD I was using. I performed a speed test and the WD read/write speeds were actually slightly lower than my old drive. I have not noticed the difference myself when playing games as load time seems identical to me. I am hoping that it lasts and that the failure rate is low but that is something only time will tell.

Let’s start with a quick round up. This is the best all-round TV. Hands down. Movies, gaming, sports... it’ll handle anything you can throw at it and look great doing it (try not to actually throw stuff, it’s just a figure of speech). No surprise when it’s got 4K resolution, Quantum Dot Color, Dolby Vision HDR, 120Hz native panel, Full Array Local Dimming Zones, anti-glare panel and powerful 1,500 nit peak brightness. What does all that mean? It’s like gazing at the sun melting into the Mediterranean Sea from Ibiza’s coolest bars. But sitting on your couch. At home. Then for gaming, we added Variable Refresh rate, Auto Low Latency Mode and FreeSync Premium to make the most of the latest generation gaming platforms. Even if you don’t know what half this stuff means, one look at the picture and you’ll want it.

Good Tv for the Price
on July 7, 2021
Posted by: Fred
from MO
The short...this is a good smart tv at a fairly decent price point. At this price, it would be possible to get lower quality name brand tvs but then all you are doing is paying for the name.
I purchased this tv to replace an older Hisense (H9F) that was in my bedroom. My old tv had a nice picture but seemed to suffer from being slow; in terms of signal response when scrolling menus or while streaming content. That was the main reason that I decided to upgrade to this tv. The new Hisense U8G has the same great picture quality out of the box. The darks are uniform with little light bleed through in the corners as the previous tv had and makes watching tv whether light or dark enjoyable. The picture is so good that I removed it from the bedroom and put it in the living room. The sound is as one expects from a tv. It is fairly good but like most tvs it is better paired with a sound bar. The U8G is loaded with options. First, it is fairly light, I removed and set the tv up by myself. Secondly, as an android tv you have access to a large library of apps. Of particular interest to me was Crunchy Roll which I can not get on my other Samsung tv. This tv also has adaptive refresh rate. This is typically employed in video games where lag can kill. I have not honestly utilized that as I do not play games on line. My Xbox games did look good on it. All in all, I am happy with the purchase but wish the price would have been a bit better; if you can find it on sale I would say pull the trigger and go for it!

On par with most vacuums
on March 8, 2021
Posted by: Fred
from MO
I recently moved halfway across country from an apartment to a home and needed a new vacuum. I had another Shark for 4 years that was super similar but smaller capacity overall (canister and width) but left it when I moved. I really liked that older vacuum and I wanted to really like this one but there was nothing that stood out to make it better than others. In those 4 years, they did make some improvements such as a power button on the handle (how did that take years to correct). Ultimately, the older one had more options in terms of attachments that came with it than this one. The vacuum did not hold up too well with all the pet hair (1 Aussie and 2 cats) and I was fortunate to still have the attachments from my other vacuum so that I could clean my stairs. All in all, it would not be the top of my list; it gets the job done but fills up fast when there is a lot of here.

Quality Microwave with a decent Size
on July 8, 2020
Posted by: Fred
from NJ
So this was the first microwave I have owed in close to 6 years so I went a little higher end than I need as I assume I will likely have this for many years to come. Enter the Panosonic microwave. I was looking for a higher watt rating in order to more efficiently cook but also wanted a bit larger interior size than the cheap microwaves you can find everywhere. This Pansonic one fit the bill. It is not too large as I have limited counter space in my apartment and has a nice appearance with the stainless steel case. The microwave has several individual settings as well as a standard turning inner plate but what I like the most is that the interior chamber of the microwave is dark in color, hiding splatter and such better than the traditional white interior. My one concern is that the time is set by dial. It does not facilitate adjusting to longer cook times and is something that I think will wear out/break from basic use as you also push the button in to start; shortening the life of the microwave. We will see if my prediction comes true, if it does, I hope it is several years down the road.

Alright Quality but not at the Price Point...
on July 8, 2020
Posted by: Fred
from NJ
The short; this is an alright soundbar and sub woofer combo that provides decent sound in a moderate size room but needs improvement in it's connectivity and ultimately at this price point is has little to no advantage over lower priced sound bars or a traditional surround system.
The long story...I purchased this sound bar/sub woofer combo for a moderate size living room. I have a 65" Samsung TV that is about three years old and naturally, the speakers in the TV do not really cut it. I tend to lean towards picking up like same brand components as they often are easier to set-up and should ultimately work together with little to no issues; this is not the case with this sound bar. I initially looked at the instructions that came with it; very simple, hook up power and connect to TV with HDMI through the ARC (audio return channel). Alright, no issue, find the TVs ARC HDMI port and connect as stated...no sound. Try different ports as well as another HDMI cable, still no sound. I connect via the Bluetooth capability and was finally able to get sound. However, this way only produces stereo sound making the features associated with this sound bar pointless. I looked online but could not find anything to aid really in facilitating connecting the two components. Never one to give up, I went into the advanced sound settings and began playing around and I was able to serendipitously change a setting from default to get the ARC to work. Great news!
So I wanted to take advantage of its adaptive sound as movies now are loud sound effects with quiet dialogue. I used the movie Midway. I had already watched normal and went back to scenes were I know there was explosions as well as dialogue. The adaptive sound did a decent job of balancing the the loud explosions as well as the the dialogue. Unfortunately, the triumphant was short lived as for whatever reason the ARC went out again and I have not been able to get it to reconnect again. Thus, I have only been using the soundbar via Bluetooth; horribly less than ideal. Interesting, as others stated, with the ARC connected the soundbar does not automatically turn on with the TV like it has in the past. Really disappointing change by Samsung and hopefully one they remedy. Conversely, if you have the soundbar connected via Bluetooth, it will turn on when you turn the TV on, not sure if it actually turns off with the TV as I always need to use the soundbar remote.
Ultimately, this is not as easy to hook up as it should be and the features it does have does not support the price point it is listed as a store brand/cheaper one would likely function as well as a fraction of the cost.

Good Window AC Unit
on April 25, 2020
Posted by: Fred
from NJ
This is a smaller window AC unit but does its job good.
Background: I got this unit as a supplement to my AC in my apartment. The building was built in 1965 and really lacks a lot of insulation and being on the second floor doesn't help. The central AC does alright but ultimately seems to have trouble keeping up and tends to have to run a lot when it gets warm. I can manage but my girlfriend tends to sleep hot which is why I decided that this year I would get a window AC unit to cool the bedroom at night.
Enter this GE 6000 BTU window unit. I will be honest, it has not been extremely warm yet to stress test it but from what I have run it, I was able to easily cool my bedroom (appox. 12ft x14ft space) and quite quickly; dropping the room temperature from ~70F to 65F in ~20mins. The unit comes in a rather small box, barely bigger than the unit itself. I expected a bigger size as 6000 BTU seemed like a lot but its small size also means it is not too heavy or difficult to move and position. Assembly of the unit, specifically the window gap filler was relatively easy and straightforward; should not be difficult for most to put together. This unit also comes with a remote, which is a nice little bonus but not entirely needed as it is designed to cool a smaller space where you are likely close to the unit. Unlike other units, there is no wifi or smart features built in. I however, chose to install the unit into a smart plug. The draw doesn't appear to be too much and hasn't destroyed the plug but more use will really tell if this works. The window AC unit if fairly quite, though obviously much louder when on the high fan setting. That said, that is one of my biggest comment/complaint, I would prefer more than simply three fan settings. It doesn't detract from the unit, just my personal preference.
Overall, this is a decent little AC unit if you are looking to cool a small space; easy to use ad fairly quiet.

Excellent Value Ear Buds
on March 24, 2020
Posted by: Fred
from NJ
These Jlab Earphones really are a good value. I got these to have in addition to my wired in-ear headphones from another manufacturer. I prefer headphones with the rubber/silicon grommets and that slide into your ear canal as I often like to use them more for ear protection. These work great at reducing/eliminating noise while providing decent sound. Do not expect fabulous base or anything but they still work great. I used them initially at work where I am often around mechanical vacuum pumps. Filtered out the majority of the noise. I next used them while working on my car; worked great here. Hammering metal often makes a loud, sharp noise that hurts my ears but not with these little guys. Moreover, they stayed in place without issue; as I moved around under my car.
The head phones are also very easy to pair. You literally just turn the blue tooth functionality and click the name of the head phones; that's it, done.
The case/charging station is a little big and bulky and not something you would likely carry around in your pocket. Think the size of a large pocket knife or small multi-tool. I leave mine in my work bag and only use it for storage/charging so not a deal breaker.
Lastly, they seem to hold a decent charge. And what I mean by that, is that the earphones themselves will likely get you through most of a work day, maybe around 6-8 hours but you will need to return them to the case to charge. The case seems to keep its own charge to renew the earphones; overall I think they would last the potential 20 hours the manufacturer advertises.
All in all, a good value wireless earphone.

Great Value TV
on September 27, 2019
Posted by: Fred
from NJ
Pros: Ease of use and connectivity, Abundant SMART features, vivid color with good blacks, price
Cons: Non-screen uniformity in the corners, material/construction quality, standby light
I came into some cash and decided that I would upgrade the tv located in my master bedroom from a 1080p to a 4k tv. My current tv in the bedroom is a 4.5 year old mid-tier Samsung smart tv. This was an excellent tv that served its purpose well but as with most electronics, it had become a bit slower relative to my newer tv when using smart features.
Over the last few years I have seen the emergence of Hisense televisions on the market and have been naturally curious as they offer 4k televisions at a really good price. After keeping an eye on them I decided to take the plunge and purchase the Hisense H9F television as an upgrade to my bedroom television. As this is not an often used television, I did not want to spend a large amount of money but what to get the best television I could so that it would also last for almost 5 years.
When I got the television home and began unpacking it, I immediately encountered some red flags which made me severely wonder about the quality of the Hisense televisions. The tv itself was not contained within its protective bag but rather had it laying against the bag. Luckily, it happened to be on the side with the screen but this made it exceptionally difficult to slide the tv out of the boy and I had horrible hand prints all over the screen. As an aside, the bag it should have been in has handles to make this an easy maneuver. Thought about returning it as I thought this might have been a previously opened/used tv but I ended up deciding to go forward as nothing else seemed out of the ordinary. Assembly of the tv is straight forward and easy to do; fairly intuitive.
Once on, you are greeted with a straightforward wizard to set up the tv. As an FYI, as soon as you connect the tv to the network, it will automatically do an update that I could not figure out how to skip or revert. I mention this as others have said that sound and picture out of box where great but that the update resulted in poorer sound and picture. I obviously have no frame of reference. The tv has an abundance of features, following suite like many vendors and making things appear as more app based with a home screen with many app tiles. The more common apps for video are there (Netflix, Hulu) but Amazon Video is missing. It is reported to be coming later in the year. This tv operates from an Android based OS and so you can actually integrate it with your android device. Moreover, new apps are added through the Google Play store giving you access to a fair amount of content. I connected the H9F to my Samsung MS650 soundbar through the ARC without any issues; now my tv automatically controls the soundbar which is exactly what I wanted.
The picture on the H9F is bright and crisp. A marked advantage over my other 4k tv comes when viewing dark or black screens; where my other tv you can observe lines where it is effectively dimming differently. The H9F does not have this issue; the screen is much darker and fairly uniform. I use fairly uniform as all 4 corners seem to show darkening when viewing colored content. This is minimal, extending maybe 1-2 inches but is noticeable, last night I felt like one corner had this more extended out but it also could be a result of the Hulu app having a different color gradient after the recent update.
A key point is that if you plan to mount this on the wall, you will need a special bracket as the depth of the tv is not uniform throughout, with the base being thicker. I do not wall mount so this was not a major concern to me.
Ultimately, this is a nice quality television, especially at this price point. It provides beautiful colors out of the box and is easy to setup. I plan to follow picture calibration settings at a later date but am already very happy with the picture. The thinness and material quality may cause issue for those looking to wall mount it. I cannot speak of how long the lifetime looks to be but based on the price I would be happy if it survived only 3 years

Nice Fryer
on August 19, 2019
Posted by: Fred
from NJ
So I have had this for two weeks now and cannot help but try and find things to fry or attempt to fry in it. First, the Chefman TurboFry's shape reminds me a little of an egg; with it's curved surfaces. But rest assured, it is no where near the size of an egg, I was actually surprised by how large it actually was. The TurboFry is approximately the size of a pod coffee maker. However, this size of the basket is smaller than one would expect based on the exterior appearance; approximately 4inches deep with around a 7 inch diameter. That said, it gets the job done. The touch screen display makes it super easy to adjust temperature and time. In fact, I was so surprised how simplistic the machine is; just set temp and time and then walk away and wait, that's it.
Overall, the Chefman TurboFry is a great little machine and I see why everyone raves about air fryers. If I were to do it again, I might pass on the digital aspect as I am not sure the extra cost over analog controls is worth it.

Enjoy hours of reliability and speed with this HP Pavilion desktop. Its AMD Ryzen 5 processor and 12GB of RAM let you accomplish multiple tasks at the same time, and its 1TB hard drive provides plenty of space for file storage. This computer does not have fire wire. Are there any slots available to where I can add a fire wire card? My older video cam uses fire wire, and my analog to digital converter also uses fire wire.

There are two PCIe slots on the motherboard, a x1 and an x16. So it really depends on what your existing card is and whether you will buy a new one if need be that fits either PCIe slot.

It works 110-220v ?

It plugs into the household 110V; 220V would likely fry it.

I have a Blink camera system consisting of 5 cameras and one sync module. Signal is weak between sync module and cameras. Any device I can use to help with the signal strength?

That would depend entirely on how the Blink camera system operates. From their website the indication is that the cameras ONLY communicate with the sync module and not directly with your Wi-Fi network. The sync module seems to be the only component that is utilizing internet/Wi-Fi. Thus, extending your Wi-Fi network should not help your weak connectivity between the camera and sync unit of your Blink package. So the short answer is "No' but you would have to verify with the Blink manufacture to make sure that the Blink cameras are not using your home Wi-Fi.

Your household is busy streaming media, working online, and playing games every day. This Linksys Wi-Fi Router will expand your network coverage, send signals directly to your devices, and deliver a lag-free connection, even when you’re all online at the same time.

Does anyone know the distance u can get wifi from

If I recall the information from Linksys it states coverage of 10,000 sq. ft. Doing the math that puts it at ~56 ft max from the router. My apartment is on the second floor and I can get wi-fi in my car that is ~75-100 ft from where the router is located. I can easily walk a decent ways away from the router and still have signal, i'll be it weak.
