As a nurse, one piece of equipment that every elderly or disabled person who lives alone should have is a personal emergency response button. The CDC indicates about 36 million falls are reported among older adults each year—resulting in more than 32,000 deaths.
My grandmother lives alone, and while she has a cellphone, she doesn’t always carry it with her, or it’s not close by. The Lively Mobile 2 life alert system gives me and my mother peace of mind in the event something should happen.
The device comes with a base station for charging, a power cord, belt clip holster, and a magnetic clasp lanyard. Set up is very easy: the caregiver sets up an account, and once that part is completed, you just place the button in the charging dock and it powers on, runs through a check, and then announces that everything is fine and fall detection is active.
The agents and service is great too. I had pressed the button, and it had connected to the dispatch center, but I had accidentally hung up, they called back within five minutes to make sure everyone was okay – that they had received a disconnected call from the device. So knowing that if your loved one presses it on accident, not to worry, dispatch is very understanding.
It’s so easy to use, you just press the large button, and wait for the device to connect, if you accidentally press it, you have five seconds to cancel it by pressing the button again. Fall detection is on spot. I tried it with a controlled fall and the device activated and connected me to dispatch.
The service is great too. The device can be purchased with HSA or FSA funds and the plans are super cheap. I’m glad I have this as my grandmother can continue to maintain independence but have assistance with her 24/7

So this is my first Alienware machine. They call this a laptop. This is more appropriately described as a “portable desktop” because this laptop does not fit in one's lap. Which is fine, it saves space with not needing a tower and the power cinder-block (normally called a power brick but again – the M18 is large and in charge). And it's HEAVY at a chonky eight pounds, that feels more like ten to fifteen pounds. Definitely not something that will fit in just any old laptop bag, still waiting on being able to purchase one that fits this device.
I normally lean towards Intel chipsets / NVIDIA GPU's but so far I have been pleasantly surprised at how responsive the M18 is and how much power it has. Meaning, I can play Star Citizen without much of a hitch, client side anyways. With great power, comes great heat generating abilities. AMD is known for running hot, and despite a cooling pad and being near my window for fresh air, this beast gets hot.
The CPU can pretty much handle anything you throw at it, all my games run without a hitch and I'm able to run Chrome, Spottily and games without it throttling. The GPU renders graphics beautifully and smoothly, and I believe the CPU has overclocking capabilities. I usually don't mess with that aspect of computing as most of my machines have been able to keep up without additional tweaks. Oh, and 32 gb of RAM? Star Citizen is my RAM hog program and even then, it uses about half of the available system memory and I don't get low ram warnings like I did on my 16 gb machines.
What's cool, I popped the casing and found that there are 2 M2 SSD slots available so if you have an extra stick of storage (No NVME though, for some reason NVME is not liked with most laptops). Just be careful, two of the screws have a retainer clip that makes putting things back together hell.
Aside from the hardware specs, the chasis is a nice two tone grey – lunar grey metallic? And the hexagonal designs for vents and the speakers was a nice touch. The amount of ports this system has is a blessing too. A mini DP port, HDMI port, SSD port, two or three USB C ports. . . suffice to say, plugging in peripherals won't be an issue.
My biggest issue is the lack of bags available to carry this laptop, I've been using an older backpack that only fits it in one compartment that's not even padded, so if you plan on picking this laptop up, make sure you have a back to tow it in if you plan on going mobile.

Another solid radar detector from a solid company.

I am coming from a Cobra Road Scout, which is another solid detector with additional features that the 700i doesn't have, but was finding that it was too big on my mirror mount and actually obstructing my view, so when the 700i came out with the EZ mag-mount, decided to get this for it's smaller form.
Set up was easy, but was slightly disappointed that it used a different power cord set up, the wiretap I have in my Jeep is for the smart cord plug and this uses a standard 12 v plug. A minor downside, but not like I can't swap out the wire tap for it.
Both units have an app they can connect to but apps are not one of Cobra's strong suits. So I haven't used the app with this, as I use it as a stand-alone radar detector (Based off my experience with the Road Scout's apps, that require two separate apps. . . that wasn't fun at all). I'll give this a try at a later time but it's not necessary to use and works just fine.
After setting up, I went for a drive to give it a test. What is nice is you can set your alert ranges – in this instance, it won't go off while I'm under a preset speed, which is nice because security systems from businesses and other interference is still a thing. But over time the false alerts become less as Cobra's Autolearn Intelligence system learns based off GPS.
Overall, this is a great – and smaller – unit. And I definitely plan to stick with with it. So if you want a solid detector but don't need all the bells and whistles – the 700i is a solid pick.

This is my first drone, I have a friend who has a DJI Mini as well, and seeing him fly it, I figured I'd hop on board as well. The SE Mini 2 is a very good starter drone, comes with everything you need to get flying. There is a learning curve, and I didn't expect to be flying on the same day that I got it, but I did.
The unit comes with a battery charger pack and three batteries – which go into the drone. The remote control unit has a built in battery that can charge your phone if need be, or you can turn that feature off. The joysticks unscrew and store into the RC for storage. It comes with adapter cables for different phones. And then the carry bag and a USB charge - for the battery pack.
Flight controls are going to take time, and make SURE that you are in an open area, away from houses, power lines, trees, small children. The app is REQUIRED to operate this on your phone as you use it to initiate take off and landing. The app also indicates if you are cleared to fly it and luckily my area only has a 500 meter altitude limit.
The controls are different per model, but on this – the left stick controls altitude and and yaw (which way the drone 'turns left or right') the right stick controls movement – pitch and roll (forward / backward – strafe left / right) And the sensitivity on this is JACKED – so keep that in mind while attempting to fly – go easy.

I was in need of a new printer after my inkjet printer didn't survive a move across the country, and I was getting ready to start school, I needed something that could PRINT and SCAN. And since I work from home, I needed something that work would approve to print, and Brother is on that list.
This unit is -heavy- they recommend a two person lift. But in the real world, it turned into a one person lift. Set up was fairly easy, and the instructions are clear for set up. It comes with a power cord, and four toner cartridges and a few other accessories
Once the packaging is removed and everything is installed, I was able to connect it to my wifi, and start printing. If you don't have a computer, don't worry; Brother Mobile Connect app has you covered, I have Apple devices, so Air Print capability is great as well.
Paper wise, it has 250-sheet capacity paper tray so I won't have to refill my paper tray as often. The print speed is 11 to 20 pages per minute – depending on settings, but overall it's fast. If your eco conscious, there is an eco mode that reduces power as needed and you can schedule the start up and shut down times if need be.
Overall I am very happy with the printer, and glad I have a workhorse on board in my home office.

I am no stranger to the Go Pro series. I started with the Hero 8 and loved it, and then a few months back it took a dive, never to be seen again. And then along came the Hero 12.
Now, nothing against GoPro, but the 12 had a rough launch, with my unit specifically getting stuck in a set-up loop and not saving settings and it took some messages to the GoPro tech team and one zipped firmware file later, things were working as intended. If you get a unit and this happens to you, simply reach out to support and they will assist you. A few others had similar issues from what I have read up on, but again, GoPro's support is great! Kudos to the team.
The camera itself is INSANE with the ability to shoot in 5.3k resolution. I've heard of 8k resolution on newer TV's but never in a camera, so shooting higher than 4k is possible, just make sure you have a snappy memory card (I don't and the Hero 12 doesn't hesitate to tell me). The video shooting is just as impressive, again able to capture 5.3 k resolution.
Whether you are new to photography or a seasoned photographer, the go pro makes it easy for everyone to capture life's moments, via settings in the menu, there is a pro mode and easy mode, pro mode being more control over exposure, white and black balances, and such. A feature I am digging is the front color display, which allows you to do selfies and video, so that you know if you are in frame, etc. The Hero 8 only had a black and white LCD so this is a pleasant upgrade for me.
Now GoPro's companion app allows you to adjust all the settings, remote shoot and update the camera, and edit your photos and videos. I'm not an app guy, I have Adobe's Lightroom and Photoshop for all my photo needs, but the app helps when it comes to videos.
If you're looking to upgrade or new to the Go Pro cameras, the 12 is a great system for anyone of all skill levels.

I have never had a Technics product. Didn't know Panasonic dabbled in Audio. I am a bit of an audio snot – Sonos for the living room sound, Alpine for my Jeep, Sony for my head (ear buds and on the ear) I now have a home office and had really nothing for audio while I work and this sound system crossed my path so I took a chance.
And I am impressed. The sound is fairly full, the forward speakers handle high and mid range sound and then surprise, the subwoofer built in handles the lows. And it handles them very well. Note this isn't something you want to turn up full blast, and for me that's okay. It's in my office and I don't need full blast.
Set up was easy, plug it in, use the remote to set up most of the basic functions. Wifi needs to be set up through the google home app, which I partially use G-Home so I was able to get it set up and the firmware updates. Once that is all done, make sure you find the audio settings and change the “orientation” I have mine in a corner on a shelf so I used the corner audio setting which adjusts the sound appropriately.
This system is really sleek looking and sits nicely on my shelf in the office, the front grille definitely is an attention grabber as I have had several people ask me what it is. The price point might be a pain for some, but if you want a great system that produces great sound, sometimes you gotta splurge.

I have their air-purifier with built in heating, which I love for my home office, but I decided to try this out, because of the scent. I have a dog, she sheds, she doesn't stink. But others notice the infamous “dog” odor. Nice job Shark combining ability to scrub the air, and make it smell nice! The scent pod was not something I was expecting, and with an easy insertion and a few clicks, it gave my new apartment with the musty carpet a less musty smell. (don't worry, I will be properly cleaning the carpet later.)
Shark has been reliable at scrubbing the air in my apartment in the past. So I knew what I was getting as far as filtration: Anti-Allergen NANOSEAL HEPA Filter, and it lasts between 6-12 months. I have a German Shredder so we will see how it holds up against her.
As far as set up, it's plain and simple, remove unit from box, remove filter from unit and unwrap, replace filter. Add scent pod, plug in and go. Controls are easy to use as always, and I love how Shark gives you the option to dim out the lights so it becomes more unobtrusive.
Now this is made for large rooms (1200sq ft – so the size of my entire apartment.. ) but if you want it in your bedroom, whisper quite with the night mode as well, low fan, and oscillation. I personally love having the hum of a fan going when I sleep and its just the right level of noise.
If you're looking for something to add a lovely kick to the air, Shark's a great option to consider.

My initial thoughts on the XPS line of Dell is: Is the XPS more geared toward multimedia creation / content creators. And I really think it is. Does that mean the XPS line can't be used for gaming? Nope, I'm proof of that! Though if you want flashy lights, a stylish chasis and are willing to pay out of the nose for Dell's G series or Alienware, then go for it!
That being said, the XPS is definitely geared more towards content creators / multimedia editing as by the 16 cores of the i7 processor it has. I don't think I've had a processor with that many cores. I only know this because I use Adobe Lightroom myself and the processing power from the CPU and GPU has made photo editing much quicker. I had issues setting the computer up so my review was delayed, but once things settled down, I am so glad to be back on a computer tower and not a gaming laptop with my photo editing.
The NVIDIA RTX 3050 is plenty enough for video and photo editing, and it can run Cyberpunk very well, though it sounds like a Boeing 747 taking off. . . I believe there is a closed-loop cooling option which may help cut down on fan noise, but requires opening it up and installing it. If you're not tech savvy, just get a pair of headphones with noise canceling.
The tower it self is light weight, non descript, grey. Has plenty of ports for USB things and (insert shocked gasp) an SD card slot in the front – again photo editors and others might be more excited about this than gamers.
Dell is a solid brand, having used their business line of products through work, I've never had an issue. If you're looking for a solid build without the flashy bling, and want to work and sometimes play? This is a great tower.

I am starting to get into the world of streaming, and I have friends who use other devices like this for auxiliary control while in full screen applications. And I am not disappointed. Easy to use out of the box, the stream controller X comes with a USB C cable, stand and the control unit. The heavy lifting is done in the setup and configuration phase, but even then the Razer Synapse software makes that easy. No crazy interfaces, no complex command lines (minus macros)
You can set up multiple pages, but switching them takes up space: you have fifteen programmable buttons (Three more than its' predecessor, but missing any dials and the physical page buttons are deleted.) It supports multi-link macros – one key executes multiple commands at once or in sequence.
If you're looking to get into streaming and want a good sized controller with amazing programmable abilities, this is certainly the way to go! Took a star away because while it seems solid, I'd be afraid to take it with me without a case or some sort of protection.

I got that with my old laptop and it was running AMD chipsets. I had to wipe all the graphic drivers and re-install, but it only reduced the amount of times it happened. Something Windows has to fix I am guessing.

I use logitech mice and some can connect via bluetooth, I've had an old microsoft arc mouse that was bluetooth and it worked just fine.

Will this mic work with a Sony AX53 camcorder?
It's designed to be used with DSLR cameras with a hotshoe, the cableing is the same, however you would have to hold it or find a creative mount solution.

Is this printer compatible with a mac, the scanning function too? Also, anyone have any experience with the brother inkvestment and like it less, or better than this canon printer? Thank you
This printer is compatible with Mac OS and Windows OS, the setup is only slightly different, but just as easy.

can I disconnect the alexa on the beam and still use it, I don't want anything to do with a listening device in my personal space
Yes, you can, in the Sonos App, you are asked to set it up, you can skip this step. If you have already set up Alexa Voice Services, go to the Sonos App>More>Settings>Room Settings>Select the room you want to disable> Tap "Amazon Alexa" at the top under "Voice Services"> and select "Remove Amazon Alexa from this room."

The hookups are on the back, except HDMI/USB, they are side facing.

Are the stands detachable to hook up on wall?
Yes, does not include mounting hardware. I have a TV stand with built in mount and it's pretty light!

Can I use TIVO with this TV?
You would need the box, and an HDMI cable, but yes it should work.
