Excellent Range and Sound
on October 23, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
For anyone wondering why you would want a wireless headset with a USB dongle, the 2.4 ghz frequency travels much further than a Bluetooth signal. I am able to join a meeting on my PC and walk anywhere in my house or back yard and still have a clear reception without static. Generally speaking a Bluetooth connection will get you around 30-40 feet away from the source.
These headphones are quite light, comfortable and the mic is just the right level of sensitive to pick up a whisper but not a breath. The sound is crystal clear and very accurate to real life sound for a voice or other audio delicacies you may devour.
The headset I received was actually white and not the black in the description. It perfectly matches the PlayStation 5 in aesthetics. Padding is around the ear cuffs and at the top of the head band. The ear cuffs rotate far enough the unit can lay flat in a bag or a drawer.
There is a quick switch to flip between Game and Chat. Also there is a switch on the dongle to go from PC to PS5. Both options work equally well
The left ear piece has the volume control and mic with jacks for USB type C and audio input. This headset will work with no power if it is plugged in with the audio cable. The right ear piece also homes the power and chat/game buttons. It makes it easy to know the audio controls are on the left.
The audio cable can also be plugged into the controller you may use, as an example a PS5 controller, as long as it has an audio out jack.
Not that this is advertised, but the headset also works with my android phone and ChromeOS as long as I use an adapter with the dongle on my phone.
Overall this is a great and versatile headset. The lack of Bluetooth is actually a bonus to me. Included are the audio AUX cable, a USB to USB type C cable and various manuals.

Excellent Smart Plug
on October 20, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
Ok, this review will be about the Tapo outdoor smart plug from TP-Link, but most of what I think I will be writing is more about the Tapo app as that is where the smarts come from.
Setup thru the app was painless. Get the light flashing between two colors, I think orange and green, and the plug shows up in the app you just pair at that point. The thing that shocked me about the Tapo app, it picked up most of my other smart devices in the house. I have quite a few KASA devices indoors and outdoors, and they all showed up on the app. Even more impressive, one of those smart plugs only works 'locally' with the KASA app based on the device model but it works remotely with the Tapo app.
The build is quite good. The app is well designed. The configuration is easy as can be. I wish more smart devices would follow this example, because there are so many of the apps that make even the most tech conscious feel not so smart.
This will make the holiday decorating much smoother this year. My previous smart plug I used for Christmas lights was a real pain to configure and had to be reconfigured every year because the device would no longer communicate to the app.

WoW!
on October 16, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
WoW! and i am not talking World of Warcraft. This PC is a beast! Aesthetically it is a very nice looking piece of hardware. The cabling and lighting inside are pristine through the glass side. But, I normally don't care as much about the looks as I do the performance. Can it handle the best there is to offer?
The first thing I do when I get a new machine or build one is to run some performance tests on it. I always go to Passmark and download their PC benchmarking tool to see how it stacks against other builds.
Passmark will test CPU, 3D and 2D rendering, memory and disk IO. The best I have ever had with a laptop was 95 percentile and the best desktop was 97 percentile, machine I set up for other people. That is until now. This clocks in in the 99 percentile, one of the best available outside of serious custom builds. I could not wait to see how it does in real world. Of all the tested modules and hardware, oddly the memory had the lowest score, it did not affect overall performance. But I just thought that as odd.
One of the most demanding video games out right now is from Bethesda called Starfield. It has recommended hardware that include a SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 or AMD equivalent and one of the more recent Intel or AMD processors. That is to have medium settings and average performance. Obviously we want the best if we can have it. Running the game on this PC is buttery smooth, no lag or studder and all at the highest setting for performance and video. This Aurora does not break a sweat.
Our previous Aurora, a few generations back, could not run the game even with extra memory and other upgrades.
Now, I have not looked into upgrades for memory nor anything else yet, but I should not need to with a new kit. I do want to drop a warning. Our previous Alienware PC required very specific memory brand and model otherwise it would kick out memory faults and not boot. Even with the recommended memory, we still had to send one set back because of memory issues. Even modules that were recommended by the memory makers, did not work. Before you attempt to do any upgrades, do your homework.
On to some hardware info. This has a external module that houses the Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth. At first I did not like this then I got to thinking how shielded the Wi-Fi is when you have a metal chassis and have it near a wall or desk. Even with external antennas, Wi-Fi can be sporadic at the worst possible time. This just makes sense.
You can read the spec sheet as well as I can. The mouse and keyboard are Dell quality, maybe a slight step up. We did not use them deciding to stay with our tried and true preexisting peripherals.
The system has liquid cooling. So it runs very quiet, even at the most heated moments.
The packaging was interesting. Almost a game in itself. Just trying to find all of the clear cellophane, packing foam and other safety measures was interesting. There is some foam behind the front cover, not sure what else to call it, in front of the main body. It is like a porch on the front of the machine.
Port wise, plenty of connections for you, just remember to have a display port cable handy if you use more than one monitor.
Overall this is a gorgeous machine that performs better than it looks. I highly recommend, it would be hard to build a better machine without a much bigger budget.

Great video quality, missing one important thing
on October 9, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
This is a fine camera, and a upgrade over previous Logitech cams I have owned. The picture quality is top rate as can be expected. The Mic is on par with any other camera. Cable length is quite sufficient to reach almost any setup within reason.
So why did I drop a star? Ideally I would only drop half a star but that is not available. My sole reason for a downgrade, there is no way to attach this to a mini tripod. The mounting bracket or connection underneath the camera was excluded for some reason. For me having the camera above the monitor does not work well. The top of my monitor is well above eye line. Setting the camera on the desktop is too low, I am pretty tall. I like being able to add 5 to 6 inches with a mini tripod.
Beyond my one complaint, this is an excellent camera. You can download the Logi Options+ if you do not already have it installed. The configuration is the same as any other Logitech device once in the app. There is definitely more to like about the camera than there is to hate on. It is perfect for online meetings, much better than most laptop cameras. I definitely recommend if you are OK with a desktop mount or on top of your monitor.

Very Versatile
on October 5, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
These cameras are very versatile. Very easy to install. Have great images. Do not require a subscription, but it is offered.
Above the windows and doors of our brick house we have metal plates that support the wall above the windows and doors. These are a perfect place to mount the base for the cameras. The back of the base is magnetic, and it strong enough to keep the base in place. The manufacturer recommends mounting 7-10 foot high, which the window frame is perfectly in that range. There are also metal plates that are included with options to screw them in or use adhesive pads. If you have a metal area you can use, it just saves a little time.
After attaching the base the camera will also connect magnetically. This gives me hesitation that they would be easy to remove by someone snooping around, but if they don't know how they are mounted they would not know to try and grab them.
The cameras each take a internal micro SD card for local storing of video and images. This is especially nice for power outages and network issues. The cameras will still record. The SD cards are formatted by the camera and will do loop recording, where it will overwrite the oldest video.
Motion sensitivity is adjustable and it is recommended not to have the camera pointing in the direction someone may be coming from but at an angle so the motion can be detected more consistently. For example you might set up above the front door, but put it in the corner rather than directly above the door so there is an angle to detect people.
You can set recording schedules, zones to monitor and ignore, and you can access the cameras from a PC or Laptop with a program called iSpy that is not offered by TP Link but is referenced on their web page support documents.
Battery life has been exceptional. I have had the cameras over a week and we have barely touched the battery. They are all between 95% and 97%. Full charge takes a few hours to charge with a micro USB cable. You can also purchase solar charging panels.
One odd configuration I did notice. To change Wi-Fi networks you have to remove the camera and readd it to your configuration.
I am really pleased with these cameras. I have not tried the free 30 day trial cloud storage yet, but I have been quite happy with the SD card configuration. These are definitely recommended by me.

Probably a me problem
on October 2, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
This may be a me thing. But gears 1 to 4 are easy to navigate. I have absolutely no issues there. Once I get to 5 to 7 or reverse (if configured) the gears are not as easy to navigate. I keep dropping from 5 to 4 rather than 6. Or going 5 to reverse. I have also gone 6 to 3 inadvertently. Going 5 to reverse is not a good feeling. It can be frustrating at times.
Build wise this is a very sturdy build. The clamp is very sturdy if attaching to a wheel frame or just attaching to a desk. I have never had a issue with it slipping in any manner at all. Very very sturdy.
It would be nice if they included a slightly longer USB type C cable. The length is decent, but in my case I needed a longer cable to reach my PC. I am using this with a Logitech G923 and using the USB C cable to connect to my PC. I have had absolutely no issues with the games I have used in with including a few NASCAR and Project CARS games. I am still playing with Trackmania to see how I can configure it to work as additional inputs from the wheel.
This really has taken the games to a new level. I just hope I can get better with my shifting. It almost feels like the separators should be offset just a little more to allow you better control. Like I said, it might just be me and needing to get use to the shifter a little more. I would still recommend it, it really feels like a learning curve on my side more than a failure of the device.

Still Yeti
on September 28, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
This Yeti is a beast. Sorry had to do it. :D
If you have used Logitech gear before, this gives you the now normal lighting of a device that comes from Logitech. it no longer looks like a mic but more a voice receiving sculpture. They took away the normal Yeti base design that really spoke out to anyone who ever worked in a small radio station. hey replaced it with a wave design that just looks pleasing.
But when it comes to a mic, who cares about looks as long as it doesn't look like a weird bowling ball on a tripod.
It comes with a very nice foam windscreen already over the mic head. A long USB to USB type C cable and a mounting adapter if you decide to use a boom arm. Also included is the previous mention base that is quite deceptively heavy.
The sound reproduction is top notch. My voice and other who I used as test dummies all sound exact to real life sound when played back. The audio range is quite impressive, I have used a few mics that did not pick up higher pitches quite as accurate as they do a lower voice such as mine.
The pickup range is pretty wide, I don't need to be on top of the mic to be clear and the drop off as you move slightly away or pickup as you move slightly closer.
Easily a great addition to your streaming needs or if you just want something to use for conference calls.

Garmin outdid itself
on September 25, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
Garmin really outdid itself with this smartwatch. The Venu 3 is sleek, lightweight, full of surprises and is way better than I anticipated. The OS is fairly straightforward and definitely not overwhelming. In all honesty I did not expect much when I opened the packaging. When I opened the box it did not feel like the box matched the goodness I was yet to find inside.
There are two apps you will want and need to download. One is the actual fitness app. It is called Connect. This will allow you to manage most anything ON the watch and track your fitness stats. Why did I capitalize ON? In order to download apps or watch faces you will need a second 'store' app called Connect IQ. Most of the store is watch faces, but there are quite a few apps to peruse and try out. Interestingly enough most payments are done outside the app and directly with the developer.
There is a proprietary charging cable included, it plugs into a USB Type C port on PC or if you have a wall charger of that type. Charging is pretty quick. A full charge is lasting me about 2 weeks after I adjusted the alerts I was getting. No need for every social media post to pop up on my wrist.
Unfortunately Garmin did not explain the navigation well in their tutorial. If you long press a button, for instance bottom right, you can change the watch face from the watch itself. Unfortunately i could not find anywhere in the Connect apps to do this other than uninstall and reinstall which loses any custom settings. The other options under the long press bottom right include Clocks and Settings.
Long pressing the middle button will open your assistant of choice. Alexa, Google, Siri, etc.
Long pressing the top right will get you into Controls. This includes Volume, Brightness, Power Off, etc. It also has a edit button to change what is available in the menu.
Pressing bottom and top together will do a screen shot.
To edit what app notifications you get on the watch, go into the Connect app and navigate to More | Settings | Notifications | App Notifications
There are so many features i am just going to hit a few:
- Wheel chair mode for anyone that uses a wheel chair. Might be the first watch I have seen this on.
- Answer and make phone calls with your paired phone. Sound is not overbearing if not using headphones, you could have issues hearing in a crowded area though.
- Play music from your watch. You can have local music or use a streaming service. The different services are available in the Connect IQ store.
- Sleep score - If you can sleep with a watch on, this will monitor pretty accurately your sleep patter.
- Pulse Ox - I went to the doctor and tested while they tested mine, pretty exact.
- Body Battery - very cool feature that lets you know when you are getting tired, when you need to move, etc. Eerily accurate also.
- Respiration once again, very accurate.
Overall this is a very attractive watch by itself. With all the built in functions it is a fantastic smart watch. The display is sharp and clear. It feels like it can take a beating. I highly recommend the Venu 3.

WOW
on September 20, 2023

WOW!
I am sure I will not be the only one to do this, but here is my experience so far. While this has been fantastic as a CD player, radio, internet radio, etc., I decided to use the optical hookup to attach my TV.
Let's set the stage, I have a weird living room that is in an openish floor pattern that is far from optimal for audio performance. Many angles and a odd floorplan. The room/rooms really muffles any and all sound coming from speakers or human beings. Soundbars I have used with the TV have always come up short. There were areas in the living room that just were hard to hear clearly from. It was muted or muffled. Honestly the TV internal speakers almost performed as well as the soundbars I have tried.
Since I played music over the system and could hear it clearly no matter where I went in the house, the TV became my target!
Very simple setup, I just plugged my optical cable in the jack at the back of the system and into my TV. Switched the system to optical input. Changed the TV to optical output. And boom. perfect sound. When watching a movie you feel like you are in a theater. I can only imagine how awesome this would be in a square room with walls. One minor drawback, the remote for my Google TV will not work to control the power on the system. Works perfect for changing volume though.
My uncle, who has always been an audiophile, has a 30 year old Technics audio system I helped him set up. When he hears the sound this little box creates, he will be in line to replace his old system.
This music system is so much more. It is a very aesthetically pleasing device to look at. The sounds is immersive and immense. My dogs hate the calibration. They run to the door and start barking.
The app is HIGHLY recommended, it is much easier to see the changes you make on your phone than on the device. The setup through Google Home was semi painless. It sat on please wait for 20 minutes before I power cycled and started again. The initial system update is either very large or just got tangled in the process.
One warning, if you HATE large remotes...this thing is a beast!
Overall, this music system is phenomenal.

Favorite Buds I own
on September 9, 2023
Posted by: dharr18
These are by far my favorite earbuds I own. They are comfortable, I hardly realize they are even in my ears. The noise cancelling is the best I have tried. The sound is clear and crisp. The mic is one of the best I have used. Battery life is on par with the best of them, I have been on support calls for multiple hours with them in and hardly touched the battery.
Now for some specifics. These work so well on multiple devices. I have them paired with 2 computers, a tablet and a cell phone. I can switch between them all without issue. The worst I have had to do is go into Bluetooth settings on a device and click connect. They are now part of my Google profile so it switches almost seamlessly between my Android devices. They also shows on my Chromebook, which I never paired them with. That amazed me for some reason.
The noise cancelling is ideal. When working from home, at times I need to be able to drown out the surroundings. I did not hear a timer going off in the kitchen (2 rooms away) until I took one bud out at the end of my meeting. Needless to say the chicken was 'blackened' or well done. Depending on your cooking terminology.
Like I mentioned briefly, the sound is awesome. Excellent high reproduction but the bass is a little lacking like any bud. These are probably the best sounding I have used. The only ones that would compare them too is a pair of high end buds I owned I lost when they fell out of my pocket. I won't name the company, but they are high end and well known for their speakers and audio equipment. I have been looking for a comparable set ever since with a slightly larger case that I would notice if I dropped them.
The IP rating is escaping me, and I don't have the packaging handy. But they will withstand a workout or sweaty yard work day without an issue.
Bottom line, these are fantastic. If you are on the fence, go for it.

Great Headphones Period
By dharr18
Sound quality for these headphones are on par with their wired counterparts. Sound controls are inline and well placed for easy access.
The microphone performs much better than I expected, people I have talked to on the phone said I was clear and could not tell I was using a mic. The mic is built into the inline controls.
The ear pieces are quite comfortable and light. The base/receiver the ear tips extend from are rounded and smooth to avoid rubbing against your outer ear. As with most headphones you will get various sized options for ear size and comfort.
Inline controls are on the right hand side about 3 inches from the right headphone. The inline controls require some force to adjust volume, so you will not accidentally change volume. The power button, status lights and USB port are all on the right hand headpiece. All call controls, volume, etc are in the inline controller.
Battery life has been quite good. My initial usage points to about 12 hours battery life based on the Bose Connect app battery status, packaging claims 6 hours. There is built in battery savings for auto power off that can be adjusted in the app.
Speaking of the Bose Connect App, available in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. The app is very basic and straightforward on Android. Open the app, it will prompt for you to turn on the headphones. Pair. Done. The App is not required unless you plan on making setting changes, such as default voice prompt language or auto power down options.
My only concern is the USB port cover, it is rubber and feels well built, tight fit and strong, but I fear this could easily get broken off the headphoness.
Packaging includes the headphones, Bose headphone case, 12 inch standard micro USB cable, (1) large and (1) small replacement ear tips, manuals and warranty information.
In the included photos I have a US Quarter and a AA size battery for reference for the size of the buds.

Just a quick update: The App has been updated to include these headphones. Still very basic, but the App on Android will allow you to control which two devices the headphones are connected to. Obviously you would keep the phone connected to control switching, but the app will allow you to control which device the headphones. This makes an easy switch from laptop to tablet to work laptop, etc. This control is under the Bluetooth button after the headphones connect to the phone.

The AirTV Adapter and an OTA antenna provide local channels like ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX, without a monthly cable bill.

Does this require an Internet connection to use? I just want to receive analog ota tv programs and Bluetooth connectivity.

In order to log into Sling, you will require internet access. Even though you can have a free Sling account, you still need to log in for any functions to work.

I’m confused. How/ where does it get ota channels? Is there an antenna that comes with it? Similar to the digital antenna I use now for local channels? Or does it get the local ota channels and stream to device via the internet?

Your current antenna will screw into the back of the AirTV, it has a coax port on the back.
