Amazing Camera!

I've been a long time Nikon shooter owning four Nikon cameras. Currently I have a D700, D7000, D70, D40, a Fuji X100s, a Panasonic Lumix LX3 and a Sony camcorder. I was happily surprised as I was not expecting what I discovered with this new camera.
First, the menus are a bit simple for me as I'm used to the extensive controls on my other Nikons. It does give you a lot of range to work with though and I like the user presets. I love the articulating screen and the nice solid feel of the camera in my hands. I haven't used all the features yet, but am downloading the full manual to get to them (it comes with a 'starter edition' instruction book which is very basic#.
The features of the continuous high speed captures were amazing. This camera takes pictures before you fully press the shutter, then captures up to 20 for you to pick the best shot as well as a BSS #best shot selector# selection. It captures all very fast and I use a San Disk Extreme card with it. You can turn off shutter noise too!
The manual settings, are easy to work with the two wheels, making the adjustments easily with nice firm movement. All the shooting modes #EV+/-, macro, flash and ISO# are easy to get to and use as well as the other settings in the menus. The zoom function has many stop points to set for quick use and a pre-set zoom feature. It has a convenient function button to use for a favorite feature for which I use for a quick change to high speed shooting selections.
Now for the Zoom function which blew me away altogether! After a few test shots, I saw the pics were fairly sharp with the great built in stabilization working, although my hands are not as steady as they once were. I took some license plate shots over a hundred plus yards away and these were as clear as if I was ten feet away! I went in for a shot of a pool ladder in a back yard five houses away #see pic I uploaded here#. When I zoomed in on the pic on the monitor I was in disbelief #as was everyone I showed it to# as I was able to read the impressed warning label in full detail. I was barely able to see the ladder from where I was standing at first.
I tested it at a beach nearby the next day and got some beautifully rendered seascapes, sunsets and close-ups of a bridge almost three miles away that I could make out the antennas on it. I could see from the slight fuzziness of these long shots that to really get the great shots, you'd need to use a tripod with the stabilization feature turned off and possibly a remote control or the built in shutter timer which would remove most of the unsteady hand held movement the camera has to deal with. I do this with my other Nikons as well to insure the clearest shots.
The Wi-Fi is a great feature that hasn't been tried yet as I wouldn't use this camera for a photo shoot anyway. It's one of my 'fun' cameras and I'm really enjoying what it can do, especially the great 'on-the-fly' bird shots I've been able to capture so far as well as a few airplanes flying over. Will give it a good run this summer when the landscape is full of things to shoot.
I'm very happy with it and am looking to accessorize it with filters and such. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants the best Nikon has to offer in a very long zoom at a great price to be sure considering what's in it!

Have all the past games and others not by Activision. Call of duty MW3 is still my favorite for solo paly and it keeps me out of trouble around the house. It also is a relaxing way to wind down at the end of the day and into the night. I can't believe the AI that just gets better and more difficult no matter how much I master the scenarios. You can't tell what's coming next! It still blows my mind when I get killed!

Unbelievably great product!

Bought recently at Best Buy, and having just installed it fresh out of the box; entered the product code given and I started the program. When it came up, it said to connect my device (iphone5). The message that came up read: "The connected device firmware is out of the Xilisoft Idevice Magic Platinum PC supported range temporarily, please keep tracking on product website and check for upgrade information".
At this point I tried to find a way to update their software from the opening screen and there was nothing to find. The menu was devoid of any usable info for obtaining the upgrade they suggested.
I finally found their website and it too was devoid of an upgrade announcement. They gave the same list of requirements as in the software, (said it worked with Iphone 4S) but they did have an email address and conact number. I called the number, left a message explaining that I had an iphone5.
UPDATE: within an hour I received an email from them, very cordially written, with a solid link to the upgraded file (off their server). I clicked on the link, saw the file and downloaded it. I did save it to my PC and started the installation from there. That proved to be problematic as it had trouble stating after a long time. I decided to uninstall it completely , restart the PC and install it again.
Let me say, it ran perfectly, did everything the said it would and more. I could view other menu choices while copying photos from my PC; look at large versions at the same time and click on and use any part of the interface without a hiccup! You can even delete or rename photos or move or copy them to any other Album! Then I tried making a ringtone from a song and had it done within two minutes.
This has got to be one of the best programs I ever bought. I've been in I.T.for years, own and use tons of software over the last twenty five years, but this little gem really thrilled me to no end. Just the fact that I can manipulate the photos on my iphone so easily and set them up any way I want is a real joy! I can't recommend this program enough to anyone who has had to suffer thru the inane synching method of Itunes and it's puzzling interface. Best buy has it on sale right now (Jan 2013) for less than $20! Every one else except Amazon is selling it for about $40-$70. Don't hesitate if you've ever though of getting a program like this..you won't regret it one bit..at almost any price!
What's great about it: Every feature listed!
What's not so great: Doesn't copy emails (wishlist)

Very good value for a plastic mount lens!

Got this with my new D7000 and once tried, surprised me with how fast the AF was and how good the picture actually was. I have twelve Nikon lenses (and have owned Canon systems) and feel for the small difference in the 'kit' price this lens is extremely good for the money. Even at $399. full price, it's a good deal.
This lens is for anyone who needs a moderate, very usable zoom range and the picture quality from the superb glass that ONLY Nikon makes. Nikon systems don't over process their images with noise reduction like Canons do....and you can see that in the sharper, clearer quality photos.
What's great about it: Top notch picture quality & performance
What's not so great: plastic mount (to minimize cost)

is This Rokinon Lens - 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Super-Wide-Angle Lens for Select Nikon Cameras compatibility with D5100 nikon

It should work with it! Call a local camera retailer and ask them or 'Google' the question. It's a manual focus lens with a Nikon mount, so it should definitely work with your model camera which is a DX sensor, but may show some darkening in the corners.

Does this work for a Nikon D-80?

Yes, as will any recent Nikon DX lens.

Is this lens compatible with the D40? And I know it's for mostly indoor, but does it still work ok for nature etc. if im not trying anything 2 intense

Any Nikon lens without an internal focus motor will not auto focus on the D40 body, which itself has no internal focusing mechanism. Any such recent or decade old lens can be manually focused on the D40.

Need extra sharp close ups - will this work?

I have a D70 and need to take facial close ups (hair view) for aesthetic clinic. Will this get that close and clear?
The D70 is a great quality camera overall and if you've noticed, it has a 'Macro' mode selection on the Mode dial. You didn't say what lens you were using, but if you have a decent Nikon kit lens like a 18-55, you can get some very good, sharp close0-ups with it.. Try different exposures like 200 ISO; F5-F6; good side lighting from a daylight type source or lamp. Use a tripod if possible which will give you the sharpest pictures. On a tripod, you can set up several feet away and zoom in for the close ups. Use a good photo editor like PhotoScape or Picasa to post process unless you have something better and know how to use it.
Good luck!
