All time best on-board upgrade
on May 13, 2012

Do not hesitate to upgrade your on-board audio to this ASUS Xonar DG. Even with a $300+ mother boards, you are still stuck with Realtek or Cirrus Logic audio chipsets which can not outdo a good quality ASUS Xonar or Creative X-Fi card.
If you have a good 2.1 channel system or just use headphones, this card will provide near-audiophile quality sound clarity and details. If you are considering the optical 5.1 out, go for a better card. The SPDIF out controls from the software interface can sometimes be non-responsive and will provide you with no digital output.
For $30, this is the most affordable quality audio upgrade you can purchase. Creative Labs have not been doing too well in recent years and their low end cards generate average sound crispness and they are leaned towards gaming audio development which makes their product lines such as the new Recon3D unsuitable for music listeners.
What's great about it: Quality and Price
What's not so great: Interface and digital out

Great quality for the price

It amazes even myself to find this regular looking cable to be better than some of the $40 cables provided by Monster Cables and BELKIN.
The noise is extremely low on even audiophile products, my $40 gold plated Monster cable looks solid but under the looks, its cheapness to the max.
This cable is durable and provides good connection with very low noise, keeps up to 95dB+ SNR. Ironically my older gold plated Belkin cable produced noticeable noise at 3 feet, this $5 cable had NO noise on a 124dB SNR system... wowed myself...
Cable branders like Monster and BELKIN really need to watch their quality control issues.
What's great about it: Better than the "pro" looking gold plated ones...
What's not so great: none

Very good for the price

This camera shares the same core as the ELPH 100 with the exception of the lens setup, the ELPH 300 has a faster shutter, wider angle and slightly higher zoom. 12 Megapixels (9MP actual) is the perfect pixel amount for compact camera image sensors (1/2.3" die) , any higher would not provide a better image quality with today's sensor manufacturer process. Only DSLRs with APS size or full frame sensors would benefit from higher resolutions.
In terms of image quality when compared to an on-par competitor such as the SONY WX9 or WX10 (WX10 basically features a better lens), the ELPH 300 provides a more realistic color saturation and better in-focus calrity. The SONY WX9 and WX10 provides a brighter color scheme but is at a lot of times offset from true reality.
The ELPH 300 has the smallest size in its class, smaller than the ELPH 100 and quite a bit smaller than the SONY WX10. The SONY WX10 features the Sony G Lens which is an slight improvement from the WX9 with the Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar lens, but BOTH the sonys suffer from the deadly fate of dust getting in through the lens assembly and landing on the sensor after a few weeks of use, causing blurred spots on photos. Graciously, the Canon ELPH 300 does not suffer from this fate up to date.
The ELPH 300's optical stabilization ability sees no improvements from its predecessors, still way behind of what Canon's DSLR is capable of. In low-light/shaky conditions, the advertised HS system "blurs" the photo digitally so when it is viewed on smaller screens the end result is plausible. The HS System is mainly set to battle Sony's Exmor R sensors which is also back illuminated, but the Sony intelligent auto mode which combines multiple shots to digitally make one better shot is a bit of a winner in image processing. On the other hand, Sony made a huge joke by integrating the unfinished technology of sweep panorama into their camera line, even their translucent mirror flagship a55 DSLR can not process a good sweep-pano. shot...
So much said and there is so much more... but to wrap it up, the four cameras that competes in the same category would be the Sony WX9, WX10; Canon ELPH 100 HS and 300 HS, here are my composite scores with all my knowledge:
Sony WX9: 70
Sony WX10: 77
Canon ELPH 100 HS: 73
Canon ELPH 300 HS: 80
Quick review for appearance and casing design: ELPH 300 HS is the winner, smaller, sleek, matte, brushed metal, ergo corners, but not the cheaply rounded kind! ELPH 100 is a little cheap like the WX9. The WX10 is great when you look at it from the front, but then in reality it is a very THICK camera and everything is tiny and hard to operate on the ELPH 100, WX9 and WX10, not good even for small hands... The ELPH 300 got a larger 4 way operations button and generally a better hands on interface.
What's great about it: Lots of features at ease - Small size - Picture Quality
What's not so great: Image stabilization and low-light quality lacks definition

Wonderful overhaul from the previous Core 2 ver.
on April 22, 2011

from Cincinnati, OH
As many know that Apple kept using the Core 2 class Intel processors in the 13" Macbook pro models up until the most recent release while the 15" and 17" models went onto the Core i class last year. This means it is a huge overhaul for the 13" line. The 2nd generation Intel Core i processors boosted the 13" mbp line with speeds up to 1.6x that of the previous generation with Intel Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost 2.0 technologies. But that is NOT the biggest overhaul part. The reason behind why Apple couldn't incorporate the Core i series in the 2010 13" line is mainly due to the graphics processor. Intel no longer allows Nvidia to make Northbridge chips to work with their processors beginning the Core i class processors. This meant Apple had to cramp 3 huge chips into the 13" Macbook Pro (Northbridge, Processor, GPU), it was simply not possible. Previously Nvidia combined the Northbridge and GPU into one chip for the Intel Core 2 systems. But NOW the 2nd generation Intel i series processor contains a combined graphics core that had enough power to meet the needs of "Pro" tasks on the 13" line. This allows Apple to install only 2 chips again, (Processor with GPU + Northbridge). Compared to the 15" and 17" line which always had a discrete graphics chip, this is a major design change. Simply put, the GPU moved from the Northbridge to the CPU in the 13" line.
The Graphics processing power of the new Intel HD Graphics 3000 in the 13" MPB is not magic, but it has WAY more power than the previous Intel Integrated Graphics solution. It exceeds Nvidia 320M in HD playback and desktop graphics including for design work (AutoCAD, Adobe CS etc.). But in gaming, it is slightly behind the 320M, but the 320M can't handle most games 2009-later on high anyways.
It still has a brilliantly vibrant screen, the resolution did not change, still 1280x800, but for a 13" screen, it is enough. Besides, if the resolution got higher, it will strain the CPU and GPU, causing the system to consume more power and run less smoothly on extensive applications.
Pricewise, it is a Macbook Pro, so compared to many other brands, it is on the higher end of the scale, but the 2011 13" release is well worth it.
The only one little drawback is that no one manufacturer offers a Thunderbolt drive so far, and it has been a while since the new line of MBP has been released. Or should it be considered as Apple planning for the future?

The all-new thinner and lighter design makes iPad 2 even more comfortable to hold. It's even more powerful with the dual-core A5 chip, yet has the same 10 hours of battery life.1 With two cameras, you can make FaceTime video calls,2 record HD video and put a twist on your snapshots in Photo Booth. And the iPad Smart Cover attaches magnetically and wakes up, stands up and brightens up your iPad 2.3

Everyone probably know that the iPad 2 contains a dual core CPU that is 2x faster than the original iPad, but little does people know that the iPad 2 contains a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) that is more than 15x the power of the GPU that is in the iPhone 4 and previous iPad. The new chip allows room for many graphics intensive tasks, such as gaming and the video mirroring feature (iPad 2 exclusive so far). You will notice the response time of the iPad 2 is much faster than that of the previous iPad in web browsing and app switching.
Visually, the iPad 2 is STUNNING, it is designed thinner but looks and feels even thinner than it really is. The smart case is not magic, but it does its job, holds the iPad 2 in two extremely useful orientations. When paired with a bluetooth keyboard, the smart case will hold the iPad in position for you like a versatile workstation for email, word processing etc.
The only thing that kind of needs to be worked on is the back facing camera, it is good for showing people what you are looking at in video chat, but it is not an acceptable photo quality camera. I personally do not and probably will never hold my iPad in the air for photos, but many may think otherwise.

Fair sound, questionable quality
on January 29, 2011

Type of Listener:Casual listener
Most Important to Purchase:Sound quality
How Often Used:Daily
I'm not going to complain about the design... The buds provide fair sound with good bass, a little unclear in the highs but most will not notice. These can challenge the Klipsch X10, which is also a pair of gold standard in-ear buds (retails around $320). Compared with Shure SE5xx series, this does lack some detail in the mids and highs. Sony's fairly new (improved) EX-35 buds are almost as good as this pair, as many may know Sony's outstanding reputation in $20-$50 in-ear buds, making the price of these Turbine buds a hesitation. These are not for people who regularly just handle earbuds roughly in backpacks or pockets or wrapped around ipods... they will break and you lose $300... My shure broke, my Klipsch broke, the only pair that survived in my rough conditions are the cheap Sony buds which have not-cheap sound... so weigh that, and even if my Sony breaks, I lose $30... not the end of the world...

Fun Game!

DRM not a problem for me... after Creed 2, it was no hassle, had some login issues at the beginning but then never happened again... dropped once but game was automatically saved to server before anything went wrong and was able to pick up where i left off...
The only thing that bothers me is the price... for $60, I'd expect much more out of the graphics and style of play... A waste for those who just went to GTX480SLI + i7-980x... sad... for once they should make a title that match up to the latest hardware as an option. But I guess this is a xbox title...which had to be kept real low-end to work with the xbox360 cheap hardware.
but other than that, ye, fun!
Would I recommend? why not... but no. lol
