Decent, not great though

These smart vacs are a really nice upgrade to your place, regardless of whether it's a house or apartment; carpeted or not. Having used a few different models over the years, these are a great way to keep your place clean without having to lug the monster vacuum out everytime. Also really handy if you have pets.
At first glance, this is your "typical" smart vac. There is no self-emptying base with this unit so you'll have to manually empty the dust bin from time to time. This one is a dual purpose vac in that it mops as well as vacuums.
For most applications, I think this is fine. There is an attachment where you can put on a cleaning pad (this comes with 2 cleaning pads) and attache it to the underside of the unit. Fill up the tank and the unit will basically drag a damp cloth around your place. For the most part, this is pretty good in that you're able to get surface stains out from your tile/hardwood floor without needing to get your standard mop/bucket. Doesn't do any deep cleaning but does a decent job at getting any spills or minor stains out.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Pretty standard but nice also
on April 6, 2024

There's not really too much about this shaver that's "special" I don't think. It's pretty much your standard fare wet/dry shaver. There's no special cleaning stand or battery powered charging case with this one but that still doesn't mean it's not good.
I've used a number of shavers in my time and this is one is pretty decent. I have a more elaborate shaver I use at home however it's not really best for travel. I can travel with it but the case for it is a bit more bulky than I'd like.
This one, however, it well suited for travel as it's pretty much just the shaver. You get the shaver, charging cord as well as a small, nylon travel pouch with this set. Everything fits in pretty nicely there and it's quite light as well.
As far as performance goes, it's decent. I have fairly thin facial hair and, even so, I had to do multiple passes to get all the stubble shaven away. For light, thin facial hair this works OK but if you have thicker facial hair then this might not be what you want.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Minimalist keyboard/mouse combo
on March 26, 2024
Posted by: LouRevue
For those looking for that minimalist mouse/keyboard combo, this is a great pickup.
The fit and finish of this combo is really nice. The keyboard has an ultra low profile which looks/works really nice. The mouse, is a bit larger than you typical mouse but really works well with this setup.
I've been using the normal wired mouse/keyboard for a bit but opted to change things up when rearranging my setup. For my work station, it was a bit cluttered with monitors and such and changed that with monitor arms. The mouse/keyboard I'd been using was just antiquated and didn't look "clean
". This setup allowed me A) a nice upgrade in hardware and B) and much more cleaner looking station to work from.
The keyboard is battery powered however there is an On/Off switch. The keys provide good audible feedback without the click/clack of your normal keyboard. Personally, I liked the number pad on my keyboard for the work I do so this full size keyboard fits in nicely. There is a bit of heft to the keyboard however I find it to be quite good in that it provides enough weight so the keyboard doesn't slide around when using it.
The mouse is a perfect size for me. I have a MX Anywhere mouse I've been using for my laptop but I have slightly larger hands. This mouse is their full size mouse so it fits much better in my hand than the MX did. Good DPI on the mouse and customizable thumb buttons as well. Simply, the mouse just fits better which is great.
The combo itself is great for your typical workstation however it also works really well with your smart TV too. I tested it out on my LG 65" smart TV and it worked great for browsing the web there.
All in all, I really dig this setup as it's much more streamlined and minimalist. Works great for any setup although I don't have a Mac to test it on. However, I know these Logitech peripherals are usually a go-to for Mac users.

Good pick for boot drive
on February 10, 2024
Posted by: LouRevue
Recently started a new build and am using this for the boot drive. It's a mid range system so, parts wise, it's not top of the line stuff. That said, there are other drives out there that are faster or capable of being faster, but this one does a great job so nearly any application.
Speed wise, it's capable of (up to) 5150 MB/s which is fast enough for any type of system you're building. For gaming, works fine but if you're in the market for a super duper fast NVME then, again, there are other faster ones out there.
I think for the majority of users, whether you're building a new PC or need to replace/upgrade your existing drive, this one would work out just fine. It's not bottom end type of component however it's also not top of the line either. This works best for that mid range application that will suit just about most people's needs.
Great little drive that's fast and pretty reliable (so far). Curious to see what SanDisk has for Gen5 NVMEs but this one looks and works pretty well.

Good quality HP printer
on February 5, 2024
Posted by: LouRevue
For those looking for a laserjet printer without the heft/size of a conventional one, this might be worth a look. I've had several laser printers and all of them have been relatively beefy in terms of size/weight. I usually have to put them on a separate stand or cabinet due to their size but, this M140W is rather tiny by comparison.
It's the smallest laserjet HP offers so it's better suited for that home office or small business where you need fast, efficient printing but not having to worry about where you're going to put this thing. It's an HP so print quality is very good. Print speed is also good at 21ppm. As with most other printers, including HP, this is also usable through their app so you can print on the go or do things wirelessly if you need.
The toner for this is also relatively inexpensive at around ~$50 or so which is really nice. Haven't used up a whole toner yet so not sure on output per cartridge but I'm guessing it should be good for a couple thousand prints or so.
Overall, biggest takeaway for this printer is it's a small laserjet. Really like the footprint on this as I can now relocate my older, bigger laserjet somewhere else and still be able to print via the app with this smaller one.

Great offering from JLAB

I've used quite a bit of different earbuds from Apple Airpods 2, Sony, Anker and Beats. They all are good in their own respect however I really prefer ones that are good all-around. From calls to music/gaming, I like earbuds I can use for pretty much anything. These are actually quite nice and easily fulfill that jack-of-all-trades earbuds but with stellar performance.
For calls, really nothing to complain about here. Sound is crystal clear and no issues with drops or echoing like I have had with some other ones. Whether connected to my phone or laptop, I get great sound and clear voice coming through.
For music, very nice to say the least. While it's not as deep a bass as Sonys, these still offer great all around sound that will suit anyones needs really. Mids/highs are nice and crisp but also has a touch of bass as well. I know that some people do/don't like Bluetooth LE but I find it to be a bit more versatile, especially when connecting to multiple devices.
Overall, these are probably my top three earbuds that I currently have and will find a nice place in my pack whenever I travel.

Quality printer from Brother
on January 2, 2024
Posted by: LouRevue
I've been going through a lot of printers lately and it seems that Brother is doing a really great job at putting out competitively priced, feature packed printers. I've mainly use HP/Canon printers lately but, for one reason or another, there's always something a miss with those printers whether it be price, cost of cartridges, etc. Brother seems to be sticking with just putting out decent printers in an already saturated printer market.
First thing is that this a somewhat large printer. Definitely larger than your normal printer so you'll need to be aware of where you're putting this thing. It's a bit hefty too so need to be sure that it's on a sturdy surface.
This being an all-in-one printer, does pretty much everything you need. Like many other printers these days, there is a companion app where you can print/scan/etc., remotely adding an additional level of functionality. This is a B/W printer so better suited for more basic printing needs. Print quality is good as this being a laser printer. Personally, I hate these small LCD displays but this one seems to be actually usable so that's nice.
Toner cartridge is reasonably priced I think. OEM ones are just under $100 however, the manufacturer complains more prints per cartridge so here's hoping that's true. I mainly print B/W so this is well suited for my needs.

Inexpensive but not really worth it IMO
on November 8, 2023

I get the purpose for this laptop. It's super cheap and would make it available to lots of people. It's lightweight form factor and low price makes this a really nice option in need of a laptop. However, depending on your needs of a laptop, this may/may not make sense.
To start, I work remotely and do a lot of PC gaming so I'm used to/in need of fast, high performing laptops. I can't stand when laptops operate sluggishly as that slows down productivity and gaming for me. However, not everyone is in the same boat. Some people just want/need a really inexpensive laptop for casual use. This laptop is aimed at those users.
When you first start up this laptop, it's going to be very SLOW....like infuriatingly slow. The Celeron processor in this laptop is 4-5 years old so it's pretty basic. That along with 4GB of RAM is aimed at pretty basic operation. Small hard drive and basic screen all make for a budget PC which this is. This would be marketed at maybe a childs first computer or maybe for your grandparents? I find this useful as a travel laptop where I'll, primarily, be checking emails or doing very light internet tasks.
That said, this is almost too slow to be really useful. It takes upwards or 15-20 seconds just to launch the Start menu. Can't really use Chrome since it's a RAM hog and even MS Edge runs really slow. Even after removing some of the bloatware, installing all updates, managing power plan and editing apps that start each time, this thing is just too slow for my tastes. Everything on here takes time...some things take a lot of time.
This is really only useful as a casual use laptop. If you have work tasks or anything even remotely CPU heavy, you should pass on this as this is not what this laptop is designed for.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good quality, color laser printer
on November 7, 2023
Posted by: LouRevue
For those interested in a color laser printer without forking over a lot of money, this is something you might be interested in.
I've been an inkjet user for ages so I just always had an inkjet printer. I recently got a B/W laser printer that's really nice but, every once in awhile, I need to print color. I had the opportunity to try out this color laser printer and it's quite a nice device; the best of both worlds.
Inkjet printers are really inexpensive which is why I've always gotten them. The price for lasers printers is sorta high still but even more so for color laser printers. This one, I think, is reasonably priced as is the toner for it. The print quality of a laser printer is unmatched so this is no exception.
As far as connectivity, it'll print from wifi, ethernet, cable as well as through it's companion app. The companion app is nice in that you can print from anywhere so no need to sit around the printer like before.
Print quality is very nice and very fast too. Color prints come out really nice. The unit is a bit hefty so you'll need to put it somewhere sturdy.

Somewhat new(ish) to the drone world so I've never had a model as nice as this one before. Still, I was really excited to test this one out and, WOW, this is a top notch unit.
In the box, you get everything you need to be up and running. In addition to the drone/remote, you get a nice carrying case, 3 batteries w/charger, extra rotor blades, additional filters for the front camera and about 6-7 different charging cables for various countries. Really well thought out product here in terms of what's included.
The drone/remote takes little time to get paired up. The only thing that will slow down your enjoyment of this drone is the updates needed when you first get it. Pretty much everything here is step-by-step so you're not fumbling around for how to this or that which is really nice.
The camera is probably the nicest part about this unit. It provides really crisp, stunning pictures as well as video. You get additional filters to put onto the camera for different picture styles. There are 3 filters total. Having used this for a bit, the controls are excellent and responsive. You get a choice between "easy" mode where your drone just hovers wherever you stop it or a more manual, sport mode if you are a seasoned operator. Even for me, the controls were simply and easy to use. A really great feature was the range of this drone. It's around 9-10 mile range where you can operate this. My other drone was maybe a couple miles or so? Haven't gotten the change to fully test out range but, so far, it's been really great.
That said, i crashed mine :( So I have the wonderful experience of repairing this drone too. For a return process, DJI worked extremely well and quick which was really surprising. From start to finish, it took about a week and a half. Kudos to the repair team for that.

Excellent laptop for everyday use
By LouRevue from Washington, DC
Having had the chance to use this laptop, I must say it’s quite an impressive model for almostn any use. With an abundance of features housed in a sleek, stylish body, it’s a solid laptop for anyone in the market for a new/replacement laptop.
Using a 7th gen i5 dual core processor, the laptop functions on par with just about any laptop in its price range. With 8GB of RAM (12GB max) and a 1TB hard drive, it offers plenty of speed and room for all your files and enough power/speed to perform almost any task.
As far as the aesthetics go, this is an impressive looking laptop with clean lines, brushed aluminum cover and beveled edges. It’s a very nice looking laptop no doubt and the design, overall, is quite appealing. It comes with a full size keyboard as well as backlit keys which is a nice touch. Only gripe with the keyboard are the arrow buttons as the Up/Down buttons are smaller due to keyboard layout. The power button is on the right side of the laptop which is a bit unique as well as a dedicated volume button. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, SD Card and USB-C port. There is no CD drive for anyone wondering. The laptop (closed) is only about ¾ inch tall however it’s a bit wider than most due to the full size keyboard.
Power/performance. Using a dual-core processor I was under the impression this would be relatively slow and have choppy performance when opening multiple programs. Being this is the latest gen processor from Intel, this is not the case. Opening 2-3 programs at once was done with relative ease and switching between them was pretty flawless. The 8GB RAM comes in quite handy here and even with a 5400 RPM HDD, this laptop was able to perform tasks with very good speed. Battery life is pretty good. Using it “normally” and leaving it on for about 5-6 hours, there was about 50% battery left. Also, one very noteworthy benefit to this laptop, it doesn’t get that hot when left on for long periods of time which is VERY nice.
The display is probably the most impressive feature on here. A full 1080p display is quite vibrant and displays bright and dark colors extremely well. Those wanting to watch Netflix/Hulu will have no issues with the display. In addition to visuals, the sound from this laptop is equally impressive. For watching movies or just playing music, the speakers on this laptop deliver quite nicely without too much reverberation or distorted sound.
One of my initial thoughts of this being a 2-in-1 was that the tablet was an afterthought/gimmick. Having used previous 2-in-1 laptops, I was expecting the tablet functionality to be quite lackluster. Again, this was not the case. In this unit, you have, both, a well built laptop as well as tablet on-the-go device. Once in tablet mode, the screen orients itself to that of a normal tablet using Windows Tiles. Touch sensitivity is surprisingly smooth and using paint programs worked well without any lag or drops in sensitivity. Using the tablet form works really well when you want to sit back and watch videos or movies. Very nice.
A couple concerns with this laptop were;
The hard drive. While it’s a large 1TB drive, I would’ve expected something, at least, in the 7200 RPM range. Being fast enough for normal business related tasks, anyone wanting to use this laptop for video editing or other processor intensive jobs might find it to be a bit slow. This can easily be remedied by replacing the HD for a faster spindle drive or a SSD. However it would’ve been nice to have a tad faster hard drive here.
The keyboard, for me, took a bit getting used to since I have previously used standard laptop keyboards without the number pad. This is a personal preference so nothing against the design. Just noting that those of you used to that type of laptop keyboard, there will be a bit of learning curve involved however I think the addition of the number pad is great thing and should be standard on all laptops.
While the brushed aluminum case is aesthetically appealing, I’m a little concerned about it getting scratched/dinged from normal use or if when you’re changing it to be used as a tablet. This is the case with some laptops that use this metal casing so just something to be aware of.
Overall, this is an impressive laptop, reasonably priced with enough up-to-date technology that will last you for several years to come. Being that it’s a 2-in-1, it’s an added bonus which allows you to use this device in ways you should be able to do and with relative ease. There is some bloatware included (this should be no surprise) so make sure to uninstall/delete the stuff you don’t need. Aside from a somewhat slow hard drive, the other features on this laptop more than make up for it. Very nice buy for a new work laptop or student.

It took a bit of time to setup my laptop as well. Have you tried uninstalling the bloatware on this laptop? I did and I don't have any issues with boot speed or anything else on my laptop.

Can an owner of the original non active 65t comment on the fit and stability difference with the active version? Curious if that and the extra IP rating is worth a look, or negligible.

I own both the active and regular 65T's and I don't see any noticeable difference between them. Aside from the IP rating, there's really not much difference. Both fit exactly the same and fit pretty snugly in the ear.

Brighten your day and night with this Philips Being Hue ceiling light. The dimming function lets you set an ambience for different moods, and it works with the Philips Hue dimmer switch and mobile app for versatile control. The ZigBee technology of this 32W Philips Being Hue ceiling lamp provides smooth, efficient interoperability with multiple Hue lighting units.

Can this light be controlled by a existing wired wall switch? I plan to replace the light that is already there with this one, but I would prefer to use the wired switch.

Yes you can...that's what I did. One thing to note is that the light won't come on immediately like your current light fixture does. There's a second or two delay after you flip the switch. I'm planning on replacing the switch with a dimmer switch so maybe that will correct the delay.

can i use the samsung note 2 in africa right after buying.

Only if you have the international unlocked version (the N7100 model) All other models will be tied to a carrier. You can still use those phones in Africa however you'll get hammered with roaming charges.

Does Samsung upgrade its android smartphone OS as soon as a new one is released? (4.1 Jelly Bean to the soon to be released 5.0 Key Lime Pie).

No. Samsung has its own UI built in (TouchWiz) so whenever a new OS comes out, Samsung won't release the update until they've adjusted their TouchWiz to work with the new OS. Judging from previous releases, new updates are generally released 4-6 months after a new OS has been released.
