Fisheye problems

There's no doubt that the Nikon fisheye lens is easy to use, as long as you understand how it works. (This lens has no aperture setting and exposure must be carefully controlled from the camera.) The big problem with the Nikon fisheye is chromatic aberration where there is strong contrast between objects. An example would be fence posts against snow, or a telephone pole with a bright sky background. Red and green bordering around these objects made the lens unacceptable. Where lighting dynamics aren't severe and cost isn't an issue, this lens should be in your bag for special efects.
What's great about it: Good for what it does in limited circumstances

10.5 mm DX or DX/AF for a D-300 Nikon camera. Is there a difference?
Looking at the 10.5 mm fisheye lense. I have a D300 Nikon and want the right lense. I see that there are DX and AF. Does it make any difference if the lense is just a DX and not a DX and AF.
The "DX" and "FX designations refer to the imager size in your camera. Whether the les is suitable for full-frame cameras (FX) or for cameras with imagers smaller than 35mm (DX) "AF" is auto-focus... the camera can focus the lens. Your D300 is a terrific FX camera.

what would you recommend for a good wide angle lens for my D3000
I would NOT recommend the Nikon 10.5mm lens as a "wide angle" addition for your camera bag. That lens is a fisheye and is usable only for special effects. Also, there is considerable chromatic abberration in some lighting conditions.
