An intermitant improvement

Purchased this unit to assist with WiFi coverage in the downstairs area of our house as our internet modem is located upstairs. The instructions to sync the unit with the router were poor and didn't assist with the setup at all so I contacted the support personnel at the number provided on the instructions that came with the unit. They helped me connect my laptop to the unit via a LAN cable (not included but that I luckily had already) and then connect to the internet and set the unit up. I saw some mediocre results once connected but honestly nothing to write home about so I tried moving the unit several places around the house to see if I could get a consistently stronger signal. Unfortunately, the signal strength seems to ebb and flow with no real rhyme or reason. If I had to do this all over again I think I would probably not purchase this unit. Perhaps others will have better luck than I with this unit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Yes. You can use this with what you have but you will have to contact the support personnel on the instructions provided as the unit will not connect to your modem automatically.

Use at Home AND on Vacation?
Can I use this at home AND take it on vacation to use at a timeshare where I pay for internet service?
This is a small, mobile unit so you can take it where you go; However, you will need to go through the setup process every time you try connecting it to a new Router and/or ISP.
