I use this primarily to stream my movie collection, so now wherever I am I have access to it. Fairly easy set, plug and play. Did have some problems initially setting up remote access for other users. Called WD support for help, which is why it is only 4 stars instead of 5. Tech support was difficult to reach and when I did instead of listening to my problem and what I wanted to do he immediately blamed me, my set up and went through a long list of things I should do to accomplish something I did not want to do. I did finally figure it out and it was simple. So great drive, lousy tech people.

I bought this to replace an older Onkyo receiver that had died. It ia advertised as 7.2 channel, but when I hooked it up I could not get sound from front high surround speakers. Called Onkyo support (who BTW answered almost immediately with a real person) and was told it would drive those speakers only with dolby atmos encoded media, otherwise it was just 5.2. Lots of great features, the menu system is the best I have seen, but returned it.

I purchased these to use as 'front high' surround speakers for home theater system. They work. Sound is clear. Not much else I can say, have not used them as main speakers, but with a subwoofer I think they would be fine for most people

Started with a 3 TB WD drive, but turns out my dvd player and router will only handle up to 2 tb drive. Before finding this out, called WD support, they tried like heck to make it work..very (attempt) helpful, short wait times..really can not say enough good things about support. When we figured out it was not the drive but my other hardware issues, they just said return it. I did, got a 2tb drive, plugger it into usb on router, and bam, there it was. Have had a WD drive before and it lasted 5 or 6 years no prob, then my Great Dane got a hold of it. Turns out it is a sturdy drive only up to a point. Might have survived a smaller dog, but not 155lbs of Great Dane.

Restoring backups
I know I can restore files using the Ethernet connection. Can I restore files from the USB 3.x port if I loose my network? If I connect using only USB port does this drive look like a typical USB external drive?
Drive is only accessible by ethernet. USB port is for adding another external drive only, cannot connect it to pc via usb

dont have my cd .cant use it on my cumputer
how do I get a new cd or what is my options
Can download the software for it from wd website. Or just plug it in and it will be recognized as a HD

it comes with a plug that you have to place in an outlet to work
