As a current user of the Otter Box Defender (for iPhone 5S), I wanted the same protection for the iPhone 6S. Great product, fits perfect. Offers great protection for phone. Also, Otter Box offers a great warranty. Had same case as mentioned for iPhone 5S for about two and a half years. Clip on case started loosening up, went to their web site, filled in a claim and in a week or less had a new clip. With this type of product and warranty, I will continue buying Otter Box products.

Does the WiFi mean it has its OWN WiFi source that I pay for monthly/ yearly/ etc or that it will only hook into an EXISTING WiFi source like my home network, Starbucks, etc
WiFi means that it can connect to a WiFi source. If you want to be able to connect to the internet where there is no WiFi, then you need a cellular plan which you will have to pay for, usually on a monthly basis.
