Fantastic that can difficult to set up

Verified Purchase:Yes
I purchased this radio about two months ago. I was perfectly happy with the radio that came with my Nissan Frontier but I had no backup camera. I recently backed into a Lexus (it was low enough that I could not see it over the bed of the truck) and decided I needed a backup camera.
The solutions for backup cameras are many but most were unacceptable to me. I needed a display in the dash and not on the dash, stuck to the dash, on the mirror, etc. This radio met that requirement with a (I think) two video inputs. The radio had to have Satellite radio, HD radio, and be controllable by my existing steering wheel buttons. Oh, and it had to have Android Auto. (It also supports Apple Car Play.) This was the least expensive Pioneer radio that met all the above criteria.
That's how my $150 backup camera ballooned to $1300 major install. :-)
Best Buy did the install for me. I am getting too old to crawl around my truck and dig under the dash. They did an excellent job and were easy to work with.
Anyway. the radio is fantastic. It does everything you want in a radio and more. The display is clear and concise. The sound is clear and concise with a built-in equalizer so you can use any one of several pre-programmed settings or create your own. The menus are for the most part intuitive and I found it easy to set up.
The issues came with installing Android Auto (AA). (By the way, We also installed Apple Car Play and it was easy, without a hitch. No issues.)
First, there are two USB inputs in the back of the radio; one for Apple Car Play and one for Android Auto. The instructions are not very clear in the sense that it says "USB input 2 is for Android Auto" But there is an arrow pointing to it with a big number "1" . That indicates to me that the other USB input is "USB 2" but no,the arrow "1" is pointing to "USB 2." So we plugged the USB cable into the wrong input and tried to install AA while attached to a Apple Car Play USB port. We finally figured that out and got the right cable in the right USB port.
But in my infinite wisdom of utilizing the radio to its fullest ie, both AA and Apple Car Play, I brought another USB cable with me to Best Buy and they left the Pioneer supplied USB Cable in the Apple Car Play jack and installed the Samsung OEM cable into the AA jack.
That just opened up another can of worms. It seems that AA is very cable sensitive. I could install AA on an old Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport I had without issue. Worked great. Could only partially install it on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Sometimes it would work...for a little while. Sometimes the radio would never see the phone and visa versa. We were pulling our hair out and finally we just swapped the two USB cables in the back of the radio. Now the Cable in the AA was the original cable supplied with the radio and it works 100% of the time. The Apple Car Play works 100% of the time. Go figure.
So the issue is cables. AA is very sensitive on some phones to the particular cable that is plugged into the back of the radio. I din't know why. But hopefully you will learn from this and not run into the same problems.
Over all the AVH-4200NEX is a fantastic radio. I would buy it again.

Will this have the climate control and other functionality that the Uconnect system has?

You will have to get a Maestro adapter. They don't make adapters for all cars. You will have to go onto Maestro's website to check. On top of that you have to make sure they manufacture a bezel that fits the radio and your physical Climate controls if they are located in the same proximity and made out of the same piece of plastic.

Will this work with a backup camera and a turn signal camera?

It has two video inputs (one for backup camera and one available through AUX input and an adapter. The backup camera only comes on when you are in reverse. I am not sure how you would use the AUX input to have the camera come on when you put one your turn signals.

I already have xm radio in my car do I have to purchase something extra?

I had the same issue. Best Buy told me I had to purchase an new XM receiver and I had to use the new antenna that came with the receiver and not the one that was factory installed. Reason for the new receiver is because your old XM receiver is installed in the factory radio and when you replace your radio, it stays with you old radio. You will need one for the new pioneer (If you are talking about the AVH-4200NEX).

I don't know why I was required to use a new antenna. The only thing I can guess is the connectors are different.

If you have an after-market XM receiver, you should be good to go and everything should plug right in with no additional parts to buy.

I'm hearing that there is a problem with this unit properly pairing up with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Anyone having a problem? Thanks!

If you are talking about the AVH-4200NEX, I have the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Yes, there is an issue. Read my review. But Cables, cables, cables. Use the Pioneer supplied USB cable to connect to the radio and use the shortest "fully capable" (not just a charger cable) to connect from the radio's cable to the phone. Once I did that, my S7 Edge connects every time. No issues.

Will this fit a 2008 Dodge Avenger? And also will it play video from DVDs?

If you are talking about the AVH-4200NEX, I don't know if it will fit your car but it will play DVDs. If the installer followed all state laws regarding installation, the DVD will only be playable when in Park and the emergency brake applied.

have navigation system

If you are talking about the AVH-4200NEX, it does not have a built-in navigation system. It will use the one built into you smart phone (Android or Apple) quite well. It displays the navigation screen from your phone on the radio's screen. It works great!. Your phone is attached by a USB cable that also keeps your phone charged.

Pioneer - 7 - Android Auto/Apple CarPlay™ - Built-in Bluetooth - In-Dash CD/DVD/DM Receiver - Black this model fits 2007 jeep Cherokee limited edition also it fits the housing to install come in the box o i have to buy separate

If you are talking about the AVH-4200NEX, Yes, it has that capability. It requires a third party harness that costs between $100 to 150 and comparability may be an issue from what I have heard. But it will display gauges, tire pressures and open doors, etc.

Is this stereo receiver detachable?

If you are talking about the AVH-4200NEX, only the face-plate is detachable.
