Excellent Printer, Great Text, Good Graphics

This is my third Canon Printer. I really like their line. I have a Pro-100 for photography and use this for everyday text and graphics. It is fast and fairly quiet. The text looks great, almost laser like. The graphics are sharp and clear, but not photographic. I got it because it works wirelessly in my home. Both my wife and I have laptops, and now send our items to be printed without having to run into the other room and plug it in.
Installation was straightforward, except for the scanner. The docs all say it can scan at up to 1200 by 1200, but the software they supply seems to max out at 600 by 600. I emailed tech support, and after several exchanges was told I could ignore the pull down menu choices and just type in 1200. It worked. To bad the docs don't say that anywhere.
I also like having 2 paper trays. I can now keep envelopes in one tray and regular paper in the other.
If you are fitting it into a small space, be aware that the paper trays are not flush with the front of the machine. When you add paper, the trays stick out about 3 inches. I don't mind, because the output tray sticks out even further and covers the trays, but it is a little deceiving when you look at the picture on the box.

what size ink cartridge does this use

There are two sizes of ink cartridges. They are both Maxify 1200, but one also says XL on the box. The XL means they are supposed to print 3 times as many pages.
The cartridges come in Black, Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta.
