I bought my first one of these as an emergency after I left my laptop power supply at home on a business trip.
It worked so well that when I got back, I bought four more as replacements for bad ones and spares for the laptops I issue out to people. Since we have both HP and Dell laptops, this unit works very well for us, because all we need to do is swap out the power tip.

Great flash drives

I bought two of these for my work. I have different system images on them, and various applications I use for repair and troubleshooting computers in the field. There's enough space to back up user data and do anything else I want to do on them. I accidentally washed one in the laundry, and even though the connector is partially exposed, it worked just fine after a day of drying out in a bag of rice. Get yourself a couple of these things, they're worth every penny!

It is compatible with both, however there are special procedures you'll have to undertake to make sure that it is readable by both at the same time, if that's what you want to do.
You'll have to format it as FAT or FAT32 on the Mac.
If you do the format on Windows, you won't be able to be sure the Mac will work with it.

Can you edit text on a flash drive?
Anything you can do to a file on your hard drive you can do to a file on a flash drive. The computer will see it as just another drive.

What does the "2.0, 3.0, etc", for a flashdrive mean?
It refers to the speed class of the USB device.
USB 2.0 has a THEORETICAL limit of 480 megabits (about 60 megabytes) per second, and USB 3.0 has a THEORETICAL speed limit of 5gigabits (about 640 megabytes) per second.
Neither device will reach those speeds in the real world due to various constraints like the speed of the data source sending to the drive, but USB 3.0 is definitely noticeably faster than USB 2.0
