A stellar 35

35mm is a focal length with lots of competition (including from Sony themselves). I grabbed this 35 on an open-box deal for cheaper and used some discounts/gift certificates to sweeten the deal so I bought it for a little over $200 off sticker. At that price it gets 5-stars. At it's MSRP I would say it gets 3.5-4 stars.
It really is a great little lens. Very small, very light and very very capable. Tons of photos you can find on my blog at duky.tumblr.com. I used to have the Canon 35mm 1.4L and I will compare it to that:
Pros of Sony 35 f2.8:
- MUCH smaller and lighter weight
- sharper overall (might be because using with A7r II?)
Cons of Sony 35 f2.8:
- colors don't seem to pop SOOC
- f2.8 is weak compared to f1.4 but you still get good bokeh so not complaining too much
At full price, I would spend more money and go for the 35 f1.4 probably but with a deal I think this was worth somewhere in the 5-600 range.

All-around best camera available today (for $$)

Sony shot for the stars here, bypassing all of the competition in many ways.
There are tons of reviews about this camera online so you can go take a look at them and I won't repeat it all but to sum it up it works amazingly well. I had a Canon 5D Mark III before and there are many ways in which this doesn't compare but where it counts, the A7R II hits the mark very well. Relative to that full-frame DSLR this thing has the following pros:
- amazing electronic viewfinder that works very well
- compact package
- image quality is superb
- so much detail
These are the negatives:
- high ISO is decent but not great (5DIII was better for me)
- AF is good for people, candids, outdoor/landscape photog etc but not great once the lights get low or when your subject is moving quickly
- lens selection could be better but with the amazing 35mm collection and 85mm Batis I am mostly covered for now
- menus are just not as good
I considered going back to the 5D III, considered the higher 6D, considered the 5Ds/R and just couldn't find an overall package that was going to be better than this once the right lens (Zeiss Batis) was released and the A7R II was released. Go read some reviews and see for yourself. If you have the money you won't be disappointed.
