With the exception of my Apple TV, all my equipment was made by Sony, which this remote is programmed to control right out of the box. It didn't control all of my receiver's functions at first, so I had to use the learning function from the receiver's original remote. From what I've read online, this is not uncommon. Also from what I've read, it's important that you use fresh, high-quality batteries if you want to use the learning function. The instructions specifically state this, but I've seen other reviewers get frustrated because they say the learning function doesn't work.
I'd especially recommend this remote if you have a Sony TV, as most of the buttons are duplicated, which saves you from having to program anything extra. It also looks like this model is being discontinued, so grab one of these while you can. It have four buttons at the bottom that can be dedicated to multi-step functions.

I own two of these drives; I bought the second because the first one performed reliably. And as we're just talking about a USB drive, there's not a lot of excitement going on here -- it just does what it needs to when you need it to.
