I was looking for a long time for a monitor that mimics the design of the more expensive apple monitors. This was the best pick as it has a very nice glass display and minimalist design.
The second factor was price, which is a great deal. To go to a 4k monitor it would be almost 3x as much.
I highly recommend this monitor. I would give it 5 stars for what it is... 4 stars if you are comparing to more expensive higher resolution monitors.

what specific adapters/cords will I need?
Yes - i use it with both my dell laptop and macbook air. You just need to get a (mini) displayport to HDMI adapter.
