We already owned one of the XBox One systems but my 16 year old basically has taken over the family room on the weekends playing with his friends online. Decided to purchase the S for my 12 year old so they can play too. Looks amazing on the new LG 4K HDR. Love that it can play 4K blurays as well as stream all of the 4K content on Netflix and Prime.

Before I decided on the tv, I did several weeks of research in store and online, and it really came down to three tvs; LG 7700, Samsung ks 8000, and Sony 850 XBR 850. Being new to 4k, I decided on the features I wanted first, then went looking for tvs that matched that. 1. HDR (both standards hdr 10 and dolby vision) 2. Motion rate 3.Quantum display. (each manufacture has their own name for it but basically the same thing) My idea was to future proof it for as long as possible and I wanted to stay as close to $1000 range as I could. Quick Summary for those who don’t want to read the entire review. Great picture, Excellent sound for a flat screen tv, lots of streaming options through smart apps, constant tweaking of picture setting made me crazy until I found the factory set options were good with some small changes for personal preference. Here are a couple of best practices I've found so far, and I thought it may be good to share. 1. After setting up tv, make sure to change the picture setting off the default setting of APS. The APS setting is the power saving mode and personally, I feel like it's totally unnecessary. I'm sure it's there to get it the Energy Star approval, but it darkens the screen so much that it's almost unwatchable. My personal favorites are Standard, Cinema and Sport mode. 2. Let the screen run for a day or so of normal viewing before judging the screen. I ran the Dynamic mode for the first day or so, then started playing with the other modes. It seemed to me like the screen got better the longer it ran. So much so, that I just started using the Standard mode after day 2. I also tried setting the TV to some of the online recommendations from 3rd party sources and I was disappointed. Luckily, you can reset the picture to factory presets. At some point I may try a calibration program, but for now I'm using factory settings with some minor tweaks. (turned off LED dimming at night) 3. The screen only looks as good as the source material. I have Dish Network and they don't offer 4k content yet, but the 1080 channels look pretty darn good with the LG upscaling. Hook up a Blu-ray, and the quality jumps up to a whole other level. We put in Capt. America Civil War and Frozen and they felt like they jumped off the screen. The Xbox S looked amazing, as did the 4k videos from You Tube and Netflix. We'll be investing in a few 4k Blu-rays, so we can really see what the tv can do. There have been some small annoyances, especially when the room is really dark. The local dimming tends to get under my skin, as it's really visible in a dark room with dark scenes. Quick fix is to turn it off and it eliminates the issue. There is also some tweaking needed for motion blur on different sources. I’d prefer to find a good setting and leave it on that, so I’m not constantly changing the picture modes when I switch between the Blu-ray, Satellite, and Xbox. It would be great to have 4 HDMI ports instead of 3 and I also wish the HDR was turned on from day one, as you have to turn it on for each input (hidden under General Settings vs. Picture settings). Finally, the remote takes some getting used to, but we all love it now that we have been playing with it for a few days. Overall, I feel it’s a great tv for the money.

First off, after researching 4k tvs, I've come to the conclusion that there are few differences between the 4k HDMI cables and the regular old HDMI cables that seem to be multiplying in my supply stash. Several experts say to just use your current cables, if you've purchased them in the last year or so. However, being a "better safe than sorry" guy, I went ahead and purchased this combo the same time I purchased my TV. If you are like me and you're spending a rather large sum of money (for me at least) on a quality tv, might as well spend another $40 on a good surge protector and cable. At regular price $79.00 I would have gone a different route, but I've owned several Insignia and Rocketfish items (Best Buy's private labels) and I've always been happy. Picture looks great and I feel better with a new surge protector protecting my investment. It's also a nice bonus being able to plug in usb items.

Purchased as a Christmas gift for my kids. They had already gone through two pairs of the Microsoft headsets that come with the consoles in under a year. The sound quality is quite good and actually better than I had thought they would be for that price point. They have several sound adjustments outside of the adjustment on the cord available through the Xbox One control options and I like that they will work with the PS4 as well. The biggest thing to be aware of is that they work with all One controllers, however, controllers made prior to 2016 will need an adapter, which will set you back another $25.00. Controllers made in the last 8 months or so will already have the jack. Bought the Xbox Halo edition console last year and they do not have the new jacks, so we ended up needing the adapter for one of the controllers but the one we purchased separately had the port. No idea on the longevity yet but I will update if they run into issues.

I'm the only person in my family that drinks coffee on a daily basis. We have a 1 cup brewer (Keurig) but it began to give me issues in the last few months and frankly, the coffee always had a slightly burnt taste. I decided to go back to a brewer but felt that a 12 cup was just too big for me. I decided to try out this little one due to the low price and small footprint. It makes enough coffee to fill my 24 oz travel mug with no left over. It's very quick to heat up and begin brewing, and as a bonus, has a timer for the mornings I have trouble getting out of bed early. Just gotta remember to set it up the night before. I plan on picking up another one for my RV due to it's small size and it's ability to brew a nice cup of coffee. Durability may be an issue down the road as it feels pretty flimsy but so far so good.

The 2k series seems to get better every year and this year is no exception. The graphics are top notch and the game play is tight. If your new to the series, it may be a little overwhelming but the tutorial is great and after two or three games, it gets much easier.
As a child you played with wooden or plastic blocks to create what you saw in the world around you — a house, a car, a bridge, a cement mixer. In high school, you built lamps, signs and more in shop class. You've also constructed full worlds, filled with realistic people simulating real life. Now, you can go back to your childlike roots and build with blocks again — but this time they're virtual blocks, and you can use them to create vibrant, 3D worlds that are filled with adventure and the magic of imagination.Get ready to build whatever pops into your mind when you jump into the 3D, eight-bit worlds of Minecraft. Brought to life on your Xbox One, Minecraft lets you flex and hone your creative might as you construct literally any and everything you can think of. Grab your controller and start stacking virtual blocks to build the open-world of your dreams. Just make sure to make a shelter before nightfall, as that's when the monsters emerge. Are you ready to construct the world of your dreams in nostalgic, eight-bit fashion?

I have to start by saying that I don't exactly "get" the game. There doesn't seem to be a narrative or final objective. They just keep building stuff and then having it blown up by creepers. It seems to me that it's a video game take on Legos. The kids get to use their imaginations and build all kinds of things. My 15 year old and my 12 year old love it and play together without fighting....too much.

Love the DC animated movies. In my opinion, they're head and shoulders better than the live action DC movies. Maybe WB/DC should think about putting the producers of these films over the live action film development.
