Very good budget microwave

We only use our microwave to re-thermalize or cook pre packaged food items. We do not cook from scratch, or use temperature probes. We just needed a very reliable basic 1000 watt microwave and this GE microwave gets the job done quite nicely.

Nice enough, solid, extremely loud

This is a solid microwave. I like the pull handle, rather than push button to open. There are some screw holes inside, which can be tough to clean if there's an explosion. My main complaint is that the fan is incredibly loud and turns on automatically, with no option to override it. The low speed is loud and high speed seems like a jet engine - to the point that you cannot hear music or carry on a conversation. It startled me the first time I was making pasta and it turned on by itself-apparently some kind of self-defense feature. You cannot turn it off until it feels it is safe. This is from boiling a pot of pasta, which I do frequently. It came with the house, otherwise I'd return it. I do like that the timer can run separately from the microwave, which is a very nice feature. I find the pre-set features (re-heat plate) to be much too long.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
