Over stove fan has poor design

The microwave worked well. The stove vent had very little air venting. Had serviced nothing could be done. Only 1/4 inch space one side to pull air from right to left and out the external vent. Steam went all up front of microwave. The fan is too small for venting. We returned and bought next bigger unit. Works better.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Handle breaks in less than 2 years

Microwave is fine. Door Handle broke in less than two years after normal use and it cost 189 to replace the entire door. Plus labor Seems to be a common problem with this model. May as well buy an entire new microwave

Same microwave going on 5 years+ but louder and $$

We have stayed with this microwave as it fits ‘somewhat’ in the same space above our stove. I say ‘someway’ as the back template has changed as well as the mounting screw locations - forcing us to remove the back mounting and red rolling new holes in our cabinet. That is too bad! This microwave seems louder than previous versions and the cost went up ~ 50% for the same functionality.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not a direct replacement

We have all GE appliances, all under 4 years old. Our micro wave #6175ekes stopped working. sometimes machines breakdown (it happens) So we ordered a new one, with the thought of simply taken down the old one and putting up the new one. But, NO this unit has a different mounting bracket and required drilling 2 more holes into the upper cabinet. I'm 70 years and didn't need all the ag of measuring with cheap paper templates, drilling holes and assuring level ect. a 5 minute job took over an hour. Also,this replacement is NOT built as nicely as our 4 year model was. it is dimensionally different and none of the better parts from the old unit will fit the new unit. screw locations are different etc. (the only thing in common is the p/n and look) overall the new unit appears cheesier.This unit Made in China the old unit made in Malaysia. Why so vastly different??? My last GE appliance.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We do not recommend using mounting brackets or any parts that did not come with your new microwave. The brackets are model specific, and can change overtime, so we cannot guarantee that new holes will not have to be drilled. Installation parts can also wear out over the years. Your safety is very important to us, and to ensure the quality of the product and safety of the installation, we recommend using only the installation parts that come with the new model. While our over-the-range microwaves are standard, in that they fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening, other dimensions of each model can vary.

Great replacement just not quite as much power
