Week door and handle

Microwave itself is good so far but the door and handle is very delicate and I am afraid it will break soon.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Surface light gets dangerously hot

Everything is good about this microwave (looks, features, etc.) EXCEPT that the surface light is a 5-watt halogen bulb which gets extremely and dangerously hot. This is the bulb on the bottom of the mocrowave for illuminating the range top below it. It even makes the inside of the microwave (the floor and turntable) warm. And being a single bulb, it doesn't even illuminate the stove surface very well, compared to over-the-range microwaves that have 2 illuminating bulbs.
Many people have stated online that they think this is a dangerous flaw and GE should recall them, but GE says this excessive heat is "normal" and recommneds not using the surface light for more than a short while. This is NOT acceptable.
I CANNOT recommend this microwave because of this flaw, but I don't want to spend the money to exchange it for a different one now. I will try a lower wattage bulb, but that will make the illumination even worse, I'd guess.

I had my last microwave for 20 plus years. This one is more efficient and larger in capacity. It's easy to use.

This is the newer model of our former microwave. Loved the old one but this one is even better. The ventilation doesn’t spit out grease and smoke and set off the smoke detectors any more. And the light is so much brighter. Highly recommended!

This is an identical replacement for the original model that lasted 11 years. It installed with minor adjustments to the support bolt holes, but other than that it was simple to install.
