Poor Design on Top Vent Openings

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently purchased and installed this GE over-the-range microwave. After installation, I immediately noticed that the top of the unit has large open vent holes right where the cabinet shelving above extends. This creates a real problem — if something small falls out of the overhead cabinet, it can drop directly into these openings. Retrieving it would be nearly impossible and very frustrating.
The 20+ year old GE microwave that this replaced had a solid enclosed top, which completely avoided this issue. It just seems like a silly and avoidable design flaw. Had I known this before purchasing, I would not have chosen this model.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It works but needs tweaking.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The microwave replaces another and lost the quality and solid feel of what I had. In the installation instruction booklet it truthfully states that noises are normal. The lack of insulation amplifies the turntable bumping sounds as it jerks along. No explanation in the installation manual about express cook feature. I never had it before. There is no backlight feature on the control panel. I have to turn the room lights on to see the panel. The surface light is not bright enough to see the panel controls.

We will be passing your feedback about the backlight for the control panel and the surface light over to our product team to review. The "Express Cook" feature is simply shortcut buttons that will allow a cycle to start immediately instead of manually entering in the time and power level. The numbers 1-5 will represent the minutes that are able to be selected.

Previous GE microwave was purchased in 2000 and was great. The new one is not even close to the same quality. Extremely noisy. Hate it. Wished I had bought a different one.
