Direct replacement for Spacemaker XL1400 but meh

My Spacemaker XL1400 died after 19 years of service so I was on the hunt for a new microwave that would use the same mounting bracket and, ideally, the same hole pattern in the top. GE Cares told me there was no such model, but I am happy to report that this model (and probably only this model) does indeed use the same mounting locations, including the top holes. So installation was a breeze. As for the microwave, it's strictly average.
The Good: 1) one-button express cook feature (I passed on the CR rated best buy microwave because it didn't have this!), 2) bright, easy to read display, 3) sensor cooking (e.g., reheat) works about as good as my old one, which isn't great but not bad, 4) regular timed cooking, popcorn function, etc. work fine - heating isn't particularly even but it's good enough for me, and 5) interior lighting for the oven is great, easy to see what is happening.
The Bad: 1) User interface is poor. You use the number buttons all the time, but they're half the size of the other buttons, some of which you'll hardly ever use. 2) The light for the range is in the center and all the way in the back so it doesn't light up the cooktop nearly as well as my old model which had lights half-way up on both sides. 3) The change filter reminder is an insane "feature". Every three months you have to hold in a button to clear it, which might not even work in which case you have to unplug the microwave and hope it resets. 4) The display is not dimmable only "on/off". At first it seemed way too bright, but we've gotten used to it.
Overall I'm satisfied. I would have preferred a model with more even / consistent heating, but not having to tear up my backsplash to fit in a different size model, or put in a different mounting bracket was a huge plus.

Its a microwave and it works

Our microwave died and we needed to replace it, this was a good option. It works nicely, no issues. Its a microwave, nothing special so nothing special to write.

Great features and cooks fast!

My previous GE 250 worked great for 25 years, replacement of handle only done. Same power as my new GE MW, but the new MW is amazingly faster and more efficient. I've always been happy with all my GE appliances, whether counter or large kitchen appliances. Plus, they are affordable. It has similar features of the old MW I was not aware of. Thanks GE. You have a lifetime customer.

The size and appearence of the Microwave is beautiful. It is easy to clean and perfect size for most items to cook. The only change I would suggest is that the control panel would be lit when not in use. It is hard to use when the light in the kitchen are off.

This microwave has everything I need and more options. It has a high wattage so, it heats quick! I would say that would be my only dislike is that adding a few more seconds can be too much. We only use occasionally so, I'm still trying to figure out my cooking times.
