not like the old days

Dishwashers used to really clean and in a much shorter amount of time. This one does not clean as well and takes a long long time

Have only used once since install, but I could hardly hear a thing while it was running.. Looks great, cleaned well and no loud sounds, what more could you ask for!

Very quiet, great cleaning, rack design fair

I bought the entire suite in the Slate series in October. The dishwasher is amazingly quiet and does a phenomenal job washing and drying dishes. The rack design, however, is mediocre at best. The upper rack does not hold a lot because of where the dividers are placed. But the ability to adjust the height helps.
I would recommend this to a friend!

DOOR WILL NOT STAY CLOSED

I bought this dishwasher brand new in May, and it's been nothing but trouble ever since. The door would not stay closed unless I held it during the cycle, or would pop open mid cycle. It took 6 weeks to get someone out to fix under the warranty, so I had to hand wash all that time. They came out, and it shut for maybe a month before it started popping open again, or not closing at all. We have a call in for service now, and I'm sure I'll be hand washing for another 6 weeks. Other than the door issue, it works fine. It's quiet, and cleans well...but what good is that when you have to hold the thing
shut. At this point, I just want it out of my house. GE needs to fix this problem!

Quietest dishwasher we've ever owned

Very quiet unit, and our dishes couldn't be cleaner. Multiple settings, time delay, heat options very handy. It's good to know how long each cycle is going to be depending on which option you choose also. Pleasant chime when wash is over.
Installation was fairly straight forward, but instructions were vague as far as top rubber seal strip install- there was no mention of cutting or altering to fit. The unit does NOT come with supply line "Garden hose threaded female" adaptor to 3/8" copper compression, so be prepared to interupt the install process to run to the hardware store. Very tight area under unit to properly tighten the compression nut AND the garden hose fitting, so do not replace front bottom cover until a few cycles have run and you're satisfied there are no leaks. If you had to pull the dish washer out and in a few times, make sure the door didn't pop out of its hinge - it was very easy to make that happen.
Not sure how these cutlery basket covers are supposed to work ( do they lock in open position?), or even where the best place to park them is- instructions aren't clear. Also NO long spoons or tall anything can be placed on bottom rack- the bottom water spray arm will be blocked.
We used regular dishwasher powdered detergent at first but got very poor results because the powder caked up and hardened and did not dissolve in the hot water. You are pretty much "married" to those new detergent PODS now. A little expensive but they work very well.

GE 580 Dishwasher

I bought this just a few days ago and love the way it cleans. It has a adjustable self on top, lowers up and down. Has cycle to run with just half a load, for either top or bottom rack. Bottom rack has tines that are adjustable for varies size plates or laid flat for larger kettles or pans. Silverware tray can be taken apart into 3 sections and moved around to different areas. Top shelf has wine glass holders.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Door latch problems. . .

We had a new house built and really loved the look of the Slate. The appliances are very nice. We bought everything, fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. All are working fine, except the dishwasher. Within two months after installing it, the dishwasher door leaked water onto our new hardwood floor. Authorized repairmen came and replaced the rubber seal. It didn't fix the leak. They replaced it again. It fixed the leak. Later, the door would not latch (I'm seeing from the reviews here and other websites that this is more common than it should be). Repairmen came and replaced the electro-mechanical clasp. That did not work. They later replaced the hinges thinking they may have been sprung not letting the door close tight. That did not work. Now I am in the process of either getting it replaced or down grading to the one with a mechanical latch. It's to bad, these appliances really look great. Too bad the quality is not there. The quality on this particular model appears to be low. As was stated, the door latch is of poor quality and design. Hopefully GE has or will be addressing this.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
