This unit cleans the dishes about 30% of the time. The machine has trouble washing out the detergent dispenser even when I had tested the machine with no dishes on the bottom rack, with the detergent recommended in the user manual. I never had this many issues with the cheap dishwasher in my old place. I have a repair scheduled. Cross your fingers.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Expensive new dishwasher was missing the spray arm at the top. GE mailed us one that we had to install. If we fill the bottom rack with dishes, it causes an irritating, repetitive BUMP BUMP BUMP sound that may eventually cause some damage. WASH CYCLE TAKES HOURS and doesn't include drying time. (This saves energy?) If you accidentally touch a button on the door, it is not always easy to clear it, especially since it comes WITHOUT AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL. If you have standard countertops, then you can't see the controls after you start and close the dishwasher. If possible, keep your old dishwasher or replace it with a used one that can wash dishes well in a reasonable amount of time.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

How can you go wrong with a machine that has a leak alarm? I've walked into my kitchen in the middle of the night and been standing in water from my dishwasher. Never again! And soooooo quiet!!

A very Good Buy

I have this machine for a month and I am so far very happy with the performance. Following are the pros and cons based on our experience.
Pros:
-Powerful wash with clean dishes.
-Light load, separate upper and lower rack wash options.
-Powerful dry with heated element.
-Visible electronic controls with run time display.
-Powerful wash with clean dishes.

Cons:
-Unit is filmsy with noisy door movement.
-While the upper rack glides out smoothly, the lower rack is a struggle especially when loaded. The rack is not horizontally aligned with the door guideway.
-The Motor is humming and whining throughout. The fan also is loud during dry heat option. I do not know how it qualified to get 48 DBA rating.
-Unit is filmsy with noisy door movement.

Suggestions to GE:
-Blow air at the end of wash cycle to get the water down to the floor before drying. This will speed up the drying time (Right now it is painfully slow at about 60 minutes).
-Quick wash (1 hour) that includes adequate dry heating.
-Separate heat option alone to dry or warm up dishes washed outside.

Best dishwasher we ever bought!

We bought this GE Dishwasher almost a month ago and believe me when I say it is the best dishwasher that we have ever bought. The dishwasher is SO quiet (we had to check it to make sure it was on the frist washing). The clean dishes sparkle like no other ones have. It is worth every penny spent. Uses minimum water which is excellent in our drought state. Water saving tip: before starting, run hot water in faucet until hot.......capture the water in a large pot and water plants.
