So Far, Great!

We had an "emergency" purchase when our old appliance crashed. We wanted to buy American this year, have used GE brand appliances on and off our entire long lives, read positive reviews of this GE product, it fit our kitchen space, and the price was right at BestBuy. So far, we're very pleased with the performance. I give it a 4.5 Stars. Half a point off because my old hands find successfully pushing the control panel requires more pressure than I'd prefer, and because the door opening and closing is a bit noisy.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Really Pleased So Far!

I bought this microwave last August and so far I am very pleased. It heats food very rapidly like one would expect from a microwave. I cooked cubed sweet potatoes in a glass bowl covered in plastic wrap in ten minutes ready for mashing. I also love the Stainless Steel look. There is plenty of room for a full size dinner plate or a two quart casserole with lid. The microwave is also very quiet. Just the usual noise level of a microwave in use. My only complaint is that the door is stiff. It isn't hard to open, it just swings open too hard when you press the button. I always hold it from the top because it swings open with such force. That is the only reason I didn't award the microwave five stars. I can't comment on the microwave's longevity since I have only owned it for four months.

Nice Microwave. Only problem is the buttons are hard to push. It take two hands, one to hold microwave steady, and one push button.

not as good as older GE

We purchased this to replace an older GE that we have for 10+ years that we were extremely happy with. With the older unit being a 1100w the biggest thing noticed right away was how much longer it takes with the new unit 950w to just warm something up. Coffee with the old 1 min, new 1 1/2 to 2 min., you nearly have to add 50 to 75 percent more time with this unit. Not a big deal for us being retired, but still irritating at times.
On the high side we did not have to get used to a new key pad layout, so far that is the only advantage. Would definitely opt for a higher wattage unit before purchasing this one.
