Works, but interior is chipping & deteriorating

Small microwave that fits above a fridge in an apartment. It works well. This is the second one I purchased for college student children. Biggest complaint is that just around a year of ownership the interior started to chip and wear away. The appliance has been kept clean and in its 3rd year of use continued to work well. However, that’s a moot point because the interior chipping of the microwave coating has progressed so badly that the appliance is not safe to use. I’ve always had GE microwaves (and other household appliances), but this one was a big waste. If the product works but you can’t use it because it’s unsafe and may start a fire and you’re not sure how the chipping affects the microwave process and the food you cook, that’s a waste of money. My guess is it’s cheaply made because it’s been regularly cleaned & maintained. It began chipping right around the 1 year mark of ownership. I doubt GE would do anything to help or replace at this point.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Don't waste your money

While we understand the importance of an appliance operating for an extended amount of time, it is not possible to determine the product failure rate, lifespan, life expectancy, or life cycle of an appliance. There are multiple variables involved such as frequency of use, type of use, location of appliance, care, and maintenance.

This is in our family room and has been wonderful for making tea and coffee. family room on lower level and helps eliminate steps.
