Turbo-rific

For someone who doesn't have a zillion deductions or corporate entities Turbo Tax is the way to go.
What's great about it: organized, detailed, tons of help texts
What's not so great: long process - but that's because we don't have the FAIR TAX!!

student just earned BA, now grad school

We really need reminding that for the year 2013 tax forms, the 1098T, a student graduating in May 2013 may see zeros on 2013's 1098T. That's because the prior year 1099T , in this case year 2012, already listed all tuition expenses for the upcoming spring 2013 semester.
Can't claim it twice, once for 2012 and once for 2013
Also if the student is moving immediately to grad school, say for Jan 2014 spring semester, there will be a 1098T issued in 2013 (not 2014) for that upcoming tuition expense. It gets claimed in 2013. This need serious revamping of the guided data entry process.
Help us to be not confused.
What's great about it: interactive step-by-step is always very helpful, and the Get Help is good
What's not so great: Does not do a good job explaining that the tuition expenses for last semester, spring 2013, was claimed in tax year 2012

fast and easy

I have used the program for years. It's easy to follow and it doesn't take long to get to the point to e-file.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax guides you through each category so you don't miss any credit or deduction

Ease out of Complexity

Over the years the programs have become easier to use and/or more supportive making the tax preparation easier and quicker. What has been most helpful is the movement of information from the previous years into the current tax year, such as depreciation of business equipment.
Receiving refunds have not been the goal of the use of Turbo-Tax but rather accuracy. TurboTax has helped us prepare the next year tax preparation and insuring our refund or returns are as close to $0 as we can make it.
What's great about it: Consistancy form year to year. Our forms are very complex and difficult due to continued change in the tax rules.
What's not so great: At times, we have to double check to prevent duplications from one section to another.

We were able to get a much larger refund. Things that I didn't think of were actually used on the return. Thanks Turbo-Tax

stress free and simple

we have progressed from EZ to personal plus multiple businesses and rental properties. Turbo Tax handles all of our needs in a simple to follow manner. The guided option was invaluable when we began many years ago, and it's perfect to jump back into when you have something new to process. We are confident to use the 'do it on your own' option also.
Main thing is we never worry that we may have missed something. Great!

What's not so great: hefty fee if using credit card to pay owed amount
