Turbo Tax is an excellent tool for doing your federal and state income taxes. I have used it for years. We needed the Home and Business version this year, as my wife conducted a home business for the first time. Turbo Tax brought us through the complicated filing requirements with ease. Highly recommend it for current and my future tax returns.
What's great about it: Very easy to use. They go line by line, question by question. All you have to do is answer. They do the rest!
What's not so great: Going through some questions that are necessary, but irrelevant.
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax is Getting Better

We have been using Turbo Tax for years. We have a small business as well as full time jobs so there are many things that we have to include in our returns. Since Turbo Tax has changed so much since we started using it, it is much more user friendly. In the past I had to call the IRS to confirm what to do and make sure that Turbo Tax was doing what I needed it to. I would also have had to use the forums or contact support. Most of that is gone now. When it runs an error check, it is frustrating that it takes you to the form and not to the location in the interview that was addressing it. If nothing else, it should have a link to take you back there to make sure you recognize where the error was in the interview, not just on the forms. For instance, we use childcare while we are both at work. We put in one of the provider's name, first and last, but the form cam out in error on re-check. There were two blanks on the form for the name. I assumed that Turbo Tax would have separated the names, first and last, and appropriately put them in boxed. Instead, I put both names in the second box and ran the review again. Errored again. Put the first name in the first box and the last name in the box below it. (the boxes weren't labeled that way so it was a guess). This shouldn't be a problem with as much as Turbo Tax is supposed to do. With regard to our business, we have two vehicles that are used in the business but are also personal use. In the past, when we have sold the car and purchased another, I would have to do complex research including IRS publications, value of the car when purchased, the total number of miles the vehicle was used, the number for work and for business, get the percentage of both, apply that percentage to the selling price and then it applies toward proceeds to the business. I have since had to do it again and Turbo Tax took care of the percentages and figured all of that out in a mouse click. SOOOOO much easier. I'm very happy with Turbo Tax. I always have my taxes done by mid-February (dependent on all forms arriving in the mail.) This year we were done on the 6th. So glad to be done!
What's great about it: Most questions are easy to answer, pulls all previous information over which saves a considerable amount of time
What's not so great: When an error is found, it takes you to the form. It would make sense that it would take you to the question field
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
