I found Turbo Tax home and business easy to use and follow. It's as simple as reading the question and filling in the appropriate information. Note: keeping all of your records and information handy and totaling all of your schedule c items ahead of time prior to starting helps move the filing along at a steady pace. Thank you Michael A. Chipman of Chipsoft and Intuit
What's great about it: Thorough tutorial
What's not so great: VERY thorough
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I have been using Turbo Tax for years. I use the Home & Business version. It is intuitive. Instructions are clear. Support provides clarity and gives comfort when questioning certain types of entries and reasons why. It is a quality product that has only gotten better with time. Thanks, Turbo Tax, for making taxes easy.
What's great about it: Step-by-step instructions with double checks.
It's great for federal. BUT if you are 1) spouses who live in different states and 2) are married filing jointly for federal, the program requires you to create a mock married filing separately return in order to import each spouse's separate info into the appropriate state returns. There should not have to be this time-consuming step when the fed return info already has the appropriate info #resident status, income) for each spouse.
What's great about it: Great for federal
What's not so great: cannot import separate state info without making mock mfs return
I have been using Turbo Tax for many years around 8 or more. I find the application improving each year and appreciate the instruction windows you provide to help guide me in making decisions. Will stick to this application in the future because of how easy it is to complete my taxes. Keep in mind my taxes include a schedule C for rental property.
I use Turbotax every year and every year feel about the same.
It is basically a great product that takes much of the pain out of preparing taxes.
Every year I also find myself annoyed with silly bugs. This year after answering the questions for business use of an auto. It asked again during review and again after correcting the answers during review and again when I e-filed. I know it is a complex program, but it seems that knowing a field has been filled in shouldn't be too much of a challemge.
Bottom line is that the pluses far out weigh the annoyances, and I certainly woud have no concerns recommending Turbotax to a friend. In fact, I have many times.
What's great about it: Guides you, good prompts, easy flow
What's not so great: After 20 years, there are still dumb bugs like asking about written evidence 5 times.
Importing TXF file saved so much time and was the reason I went with Turbotax. Navigation was tough... no trail of screens you have been through. It was hard to go back and find things if I realized I made a mistake on something. Also I couldn't import my Quickbooks online data which was frustrating because it is an intuit product to and I assumed they would speak to each other.
I guess overall it was not terrible but some of those things could be improved for paid for software.
What's great about it: TXF Import
What's not so great: Navigation, No Quickbooks online import
Overall, it was a pleasant experience filing this year's tax returns. It was easier and quicker than I expected originally to complete the whole process.
What's great about it: It was easy to follow instructions for deductions and credits etc.
What's not so great: I was left referred to IRS publications on questions without definite answer.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
