Easy and Affordable!

Loved my experience with Turbo Tax this year! Last year we tried another tax service since we had some major life changes (moved across the country, started a business, and started working for Congress). We ended up getting surprised with a huge tax bill and were very upset with the competitor. I vowed to quickly return to Turbo Tax in 2013! As planned, I bought Turbo Tax–at over 80% less than our previous year's tax fees–and have easily filed our tax return in under 3 hours. We saved a ton of money and time!
What's great about it: Quick, intuitive, easy, and inexpensive.
What's not so great: Had a few problems with an unnecessary requirement to update.

Light blue colors on this and many program pages are way too light - change color to Black
What's great about it: step by step is good
What's not so great: ligh blue ink color makes it very hard to make correct choices

Error-Couldn't Electronic File

Turbotax treats fellowship income correctly from a income tax purposes, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to exempt it from SE tax as provided in Rev. Rul. 60-378 without going in an just overriding the amount. When you override the computation, you are unable to electronically file. Please figure out how to fix the SE issue on fellowships. Lots of poor college students receiving fellowships are probably pay too much in tax if they are paying the SE tax.
What's great about it: Easy to use & Carryover of annual data
What's not so great: If the program has to be overridden, you can't electronically file

I recommend Turbo Tax to anyone that will listen. The software has been working great for me for several years.
What's great about it: super quick
What's not so great: waiting for forms (not turbo taxes fault)

There is "alot" of good info and helpful questions T-tax asks. However, it is not as user friendly as it could be. There are times when I go to a help menu and the info is not available.
Another issue is that if I have a particular item I want to enter, [This year it was work related tools.] there are times when I cannot access a particular worksheet in full but am only given specific options that may not apply to my situation as readily as other options. I have done my own taxes in the past, and while not a professional I am proficient in reading and filing tax forms. I would like to be able to access the tax forms, even if I do not answer the question in the way T-tax would like.
What's great about it: Very detailed analysis of potential deductions
What's not so great: Not as user friendly as it could be

I would like to see a copy of the return before it prints, I found mistakes on the printed version, I corrected the mistakes and had to reprint the return. How about print the Federal return then ask to print the state return.
What's not so great: mistakes on printed return

The search for questions needs to be more specific to the question. I had a question as to whether a 1099-misc was taxable for Soc Sec tax and it took me to the "1099 for Soc. Sec tax" instead of looking up info formy question.
Otherwise everything else went smoothly
What's great about it: Asks lots of questions you may not think of
What's not so great: had a specific question I could not get answered directly
