TurboTax 2013 Review
on February 15, 2014

In previous versions, my banking account information was automatically transferred to both federal and state returns for the upcoming year. The 2013 version required me to enter it three times (federal and 2 state returns).
Overall, the program is still excellent for individual/family tax filing.
What's great about it: User friendly in all categories
What's not so great: Does not transfer data in some cases
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Little improvement compared to previous versions

Overall, TurboTax 2013 show little to no improvement compared to previous versions. It still has the following shortcomings:
- The popup window that shows when a user clicks a tax term to look for more details is very annoying: 1) it blocks the main screen and 2) user cannot close it by pressing the "Esc" button. A much better interface is to show additional information in the sidebar on the right hand side.
- It should ask more intelligent questions to help the user avoid dealing with certain sections. For example, it should ask if the company has any employee. If there's none, it shouldn't keep on asking any employee-related question.
- It asks questions for which TurboTax should already have the answers from previous year's return. So, it doesn't import certain data from past return while it should have.
- For certain uncommon tax situation, TurboTax should ask a comprehensive question to help the user decide whether it is relevant to him/her. Instead, it just asks something similar to "Does this tax situation apply to you?" That's not helpful at all.
What's not so great: user interface, application logic

The tax software works well. Did not use many of the Business features. Sometimes confusing for LLC's and partnerships, K-1's...
What's great about it: Interview Helps
What's not so great: Some needless forms seem to be generated
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax is extremely easy to use. It is very user friendly and has the information available that you need. I highly recommend this program for the most simple returns to the more complex, small business returns.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions

Stress Free...Seriously...Stress Free

Have done our taxes for years, the old way...fighting for the IRS forms and traveling to various locations to find the ones you need. Then a few times with a tax prep company and didn't like paying a high fee and getting smaller refunds. Turbo made it easy with the home business and personal so that the tax process is relatively stress free.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate, step-by-step, nothing left out, no forms all over the house, no paper for the cats to be laying on
What's not so great: Form view doesn't always jive with the screen you are on

I love turbo tax

I love using Turbo Tax. The only thing I would change (and this happens every year) is a place link where all the tax forms are listed, with links to each form and where you enter it on Turbo Tax. I find myself going through the program twice because I misinterpreted what was being asked at the time. I would also like to see the buying and selling of stocks section easier to input. I trade options and they are very confusing to enter through Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: I can do it myself
What's not so great: sometimes it isn't clear where to enter information
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Seems to have been bug with State based on taxable amount reported on 1099. Forced me to answer questions about 179 deduction.
