Christopher (My husband) and I started a business in 2013 for the first time. It was a little complicated, but Turbo Tax really did help us through it, and next year we will know a little bit more what to expect.
We have used Turbo Tax in the past for our personal taxes and it's always been very helpful.

Intuit you slipped this year

This. year seems like TT rushed the software into production. There were several flaws in the program. Most of the problems lie on the business side of the Federal. Home office expenses was difficult to find until the update was made. Then it had several typos and was difficult to follow. Iowa state tax was a disaster.. Federal amounts did not always merge into the state forms. Questions were asked that were irrelevant. I had to look up 6 years of depreciation to manually enter it into TT. I've used TT since 1998. At this rate, I will have to save all paper forms of my returns if I have to manually calculate this annually.

A Continued User!!!

I used turbotax last year and am again using this tax software. There's no having to guess what is required or not for certain sections. The software continues to be very user friendly.
What's great about it: User friendly. Excellent for the novice tax preparer.
Pros: I had a baby, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Business use of auto - std mileage rate method

Granted TurboTax is trying to find every possible deduction, but there some the user just knows they won't qualify for or are too much of a hastle for only a few pennies of refund.
For use of a vehicle where it is obvious that the IRS standard mileage rate will be used (low percentage of business use and/or incomplete historical data on vehicle), just but a bipass question in the beginning of that section. "Do you want to take the standard mileage deduction or figure on actual costs and depreciation?" It's a real main to be forced to do a form 8824 when one vehicle is traded in for another just for a couple hundred miles of business use.
What's great about it: Carries over a lot of useful information from previous years making it easy to spot missed items
What's not so great: Needs some simple bipass short cut questions

Great except for one BIG thing

out all my work. I wanted to cry. I had to do everything all over again today. VERY UPSETTING. Now I know NEVER to do an update when you send one-you see why that's bad, right? Both that I won't do the update AND that my stuff got wiped out?
What's great about it: Reminds me of EVERYTHING
What's not so great: Asked me to do an update to my software on my computer-no where does it say that WHEN I do the update that it would wipe

I've been doing my Taxes with TurboTax since 2004, and I've never had any problems or issues with it, I've even compared my TurboTax totals to what I would get back if I went to a tax professional and a couple of occasions and on all occasions I've proven to get a bigger refund using TurboTax. now I have family members always asking me tax related questions and wanting me to do their taxes. this is the best program ever for doing your own taxes, even better if your self employed or won your own small business, the home and business version covers all bases, I love it.
What's great about it: the ease of use from the interface

The amount of my 2013 estimated state taxes paid was showing up double in the final numbers. I mistakenly entered as 2012 taxes paid in 2013, but then cancelled that out. I then entered correctly the 2013 estimated tax paid in 2013. However, the amount I entered for 2012 was still in the file for some reason, even after I zeroed it out. It took me 3 hours to get this resolved.
