i have used turbo tax forever. i have had a tax accountant look over my returns 2x over the years when i had major financial transactions taking place and they have told me everything checked out fine.
Its worth the cost and effort. if you do very basic taxes, the free option is best. At high levels of complexity worth the cost but be prepared. " record keeping, record keeping, I did get the feeling I'm in this alone, which I was. A tax return should be able to be filed by the tax payer... but then again taxes are taxes.
What's great about it: basic tax reporting, very easy home business filing
What's not so great: investments portion left me confused, left we wondering if a tax account would have reported differently
Overall great experience. This is I think the 4th year I've used Turbo Tax for my small business and its much better than paying an accountant. Too bad I owe money but that's not the Turbo Tax's fault. Sometimes using the product it's a little to positive and upbeat about doing taxes. It's only great if your getting a refund.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Sometimes it can be a little hard to find something that you've already completed but want to go back and review.
The Worksheet for Long-Term Transactions on Form 1099-B not reported to the IRS only takes 50 Transactions. Every time I added addtional transactions and saved them I could not find them and assumed that they were not saved. So I added them again until the duplication showed total values in excess of the totals on my 1099-B. The reason I could not find the extra pages is that there was no indication of how to find additional pages at the bottom of page 1. After hours of struggling to find the additional pages, I noticed an icon at the top of the worksheet saying that I had 3 pages and navigated by clicking on the arrow to move to pages 2 and 3. This navigation tool should be at the bottom of the page as in the rest of the Turbotax Program, instead of at the top of the page.
What's great about it: I have used Turbotax for 10 straight years because it is normally the most user firendly way to file taxes.
What's not so great: This year, I wasted many hours until I found an icon at the top of the worksheet saying how to find additional pages.
