I always find the TurboTax interview dealing with credit for foreign taxes paid to be the weakest part of the program, but this year reached a new low. Instead of coping information from my Form 1116 to the AMT forms, I was instructed in review to link the forms manually. (Why?) The process of linking forms creates multiple copies of the forms, requiring that I file by mail, rather than electronically. This is a level of non-performance that makes me question whether I will use Turbo Tax in the future.
What's great about it: Comptehensive interview process
What's not so great: Porr handling for foreign tax paid
While the guide is good. There are issues with importing data and being able to print out information from the screens. The year over year analysis printing is difficult and navigation when doing multiple States is not great.
The cost of filing the State returns is excessive - considering one has to purchase the software for additional states as well at a hefty price. Since there is only limited data needed for the supplemental States returns one would think the total cost to use and file for secondary states would be less.
What's great about it: Seems through and easy to use, good guide
What's not so great: Year over year reporting is minimal, costly to use and file multiple State returns
I have been using Turbo Tax for many years and have found it to be most helpful in doing my tax returns and certainly much better than trying to do them without it.
I really like the popup at the top that shows the total tax due as you go through the steps so it is easy to see the effect of different things on the taxes due.
thanks for a great product.
What's great about it: easy step by step directions
What's not so great: need more examples in some categories
