I like the fact that so much information is already transferred over for you, especially when both a Federal and State return are required. Sometimes you'll run through the steps for a deduction and then the amount owed will not drop and the software will not specifically tell you that you did not qualify for the deduction. That occurred with my home office deduction this year.
What's great about it: Easy transfer of existing information, Great feature with It's deductibe
I did my federal and state taxes in 3 hours TOTAL! That included W2's, 1099's all efiled!!!!! This rocks! Its Miller time. And I had another 36 hours to file! I've never been done this soon and with NOOO stress than I ever had in my life, that's with a home and business type of filing. Peace
What's great about it: did it all for me
What's not so great: still takes forever to wade thru the catagories. Need to get the decuction optimizer on Jan 1 to keep track of the year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I have an IRS assigned Identity Protection Personal identification Number. There is no doubt my return will get kicked back because Turbo Tax does not allow for this. I am allowed 5 federal returns and 1 free state return.... Turbo tax wants to put the state return on MY tax return. I do my kids return and want to do the state on it... Turbo tax does not adjust well.
What's great about it: Easy
What's not so great: Does not deal well with unexpected
I am a very computer literate person, but I found the software a little difficult. But once I contacted the customer support, everything fell into place.. Thank you customer support, you ROCK!
What's great about it: Customer support was TOP NOTCH
What's not so great: Software was a little difficult to understand
After using Turbotax for the past 9 years it finally did me wrong. I have e-filed my fed and state returns every year but for some reason this year it would not allow the state e-file due to a form 2106 error. I changed nothing from the previous years but apparently Turbotax did. May be time to look into new software for next year.
Turbo tax goes straight to the issue and holds your hand through the worst of tax forms. Particularly helpful on things like Royalties and Partnership income.
What's great about it: Direct approach to getting it done
What's not so great: Some printouts were cut off by 1/2" printer bottom margin
I am skilled in financial and accounting subjects. Working with your return forms and questions I was treated as intellectually able to do the task and not patronized or overly simplistic to the point that questions were nonsensical.
What's great about it: much better than last year
What's not so great: none that i noticed
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I used to dread doing my personal and business schedule C return and this year was no exception with the changes in tax law. Turbo Tax made it super easy by walking me through step by step to ensure I didn't miss anything! this was my 2nd year using TurboTax and their approach enabled me to better organize my record keeping so that 2013 was even quicker than 2012!
What's great about it: Letting the program walk me through all the questions ensured I didn't miss anything
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
