NYC-202 - Could not enter a Date Value on TurboTax Website. Tech Support sent me the Windows Software Version.
Now ready to E-file my New York State Form and TurboTax says there is missing information on the NYC-202S form !
I am NOT filing the NYC-202S form........I'm filing the Long Version NYC-202.......so why is TurboTax stopping me from E-Filing my NY State Return due to missing information on a Form I am not filing ?
What's not so great: Trouble with TurboTax on NYC-202 Form
Glitches concerning long term capital loss and sales tax deduction. I should have been offered an opportunity to update upon loading Turbo Tax. The first day I worked on the return, I was not admonished to "save" - caused me to waste four hours doing it over again. When I tried to print, the "PDF converter" appeared instead of my printer, then it locked up for a few minutes. I have used Turbo Tax for about twenty years, and this has been the worst year for problems. It is usually trouble free!
What's great about it: Saved a lot of time, as usual
What's not so great: Was very out of date, but did not offer an update opportunity until the end.
Using turbotax was not worth the trouble, especially with state returns, which had mistakes and technical glitches. I ended up having to get an extension for a state return because of this, even after spending over an hour on the phone with turbo tax support. The gentleman was very helpful, but was obviously facing a difficult task since the program had problems working correctly. While having the function of it choosing forms for me was helpful, overall it cost me more time to deal with the problems. Also, even after I did the review several times and was told that the returns are complete and have no errors, when I went to print during filing, I got a message that there were errors in the return, but it didn't tell me where. So that is another glitch - either I had errors and the previous checks were incorrect, or I didn't, and the new error message was incorrect. It is unclear where or how one may override a figure that is incorrect, and whether fixing that number will then carry through as it should onto other forms. There needs to be a way to show or preview how a change will carry through all forms. Say, I increase the reported income or an allocation - I should be able to preview the change by previewing forms with the revised number highlighted - a temporary "track changes" to make sure I understand. It was also difficult to find answers. Whenever I searched, I got results of totally different questions that happened to share one keyword - not helpful. Certain information that people would want to know should just be stated at the beginning - for instance, that if filing electronically, one need not include a scan of one's w-2 forms. Why make people search the help for such a basic thing. I received a survey about the experience with customer service, and am concerned that any negative ratings I give for this flawed software will reflect badly on the person who helped me - who really did their best.
What's great about it: includes forms you might not know about
What's not so great: hard to tell where numbers come from, difficult to find answers
