do not feel comfortable with state return, did not - could not locate requested information
What's great about it: federal return was relatively easy to process, however, it did not seem to pick up needed information from the 2012 file
What's not so great: state return not easy to process
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Great tool

Overall easy to merge business and personal tax numbers but the 401k SEP instructions remained a bit fuzzy. The totals on the screeen weren't clear with regard to what was to be sent and what HAD been sent after maximizing the contribution (employer contributions).
What's great about it: Almost every situation
What's not so great: Still a little fuzzy in some business expense areas
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I like Turbo Tax. It asks for information in a pretty clear way, and if you are not sure what to enter, answers questions quickly.
What's great about it: Easy walk through and filing
What's not so great: nothing
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo tax is set up for you to get overpayment in cash. It never asks you if you want to take refund as payment for 2014 tax. If you do want to prepay with refund you have to manually go into 1040 and enter refund amount. It then does not apply this amount to estimated quarterly payments.
SURPRISINGLY it works correctly on state returns
What's great about it: Easy entry, download from investment firms
What's not so great: NOT ACCURATE

Felt confident that I was reporting all forms with help of the software. A good learning tool to help understand what is deductible.

Problem solved!
on April 14, 2014

I have used TurboTax for YEARS and been very pleased with it. I am fond of saying it is so easy to use that the DOG can do it because I do not consider myself particularly adept at the computer and yet I have had nothing but success with TurboTax. THIS year, however, I had a major problem I have never encounteredd before - I was unable to pay with a credit card for the extra state returns I needed to do my daughter's taxes. The PROGRAM would not put it through, kept telling me that there was a problem with my internet connection, which there was NOT. After HOURS (about 4) of working at it, three different people helping and another via remote to the third, I was finally able to file. The last problem, Kansas would not allow efile without the Federal being sent at the same time or having been accepted. Luckily, since I had filed the Federal separately, having been advised that filing separately might be the way to make it work, the federal return was VERY quickly accepted and I was able to efile Kansas. If there is such a problem with a state return filing, it should be NOTED ahead of time so that users KNOW they will have a problem filing and take steps to avoid it. My email stating the federal had been filed estimated that it would be accepted by April 16, which would have been a day too late to file Kansas on time! Had it NOT been quickly accepted, for whatever reason, the Kansas state efile would have been late because the PROGRAM didn't warn of a problem until it was too late to do anything about it!
What's great about it: The Turbotax telephone help was dogged in their determination to help
What's not so great: the PROGRAM has a glitch or two with credit card payment!!

TurboTax does not eliminate the need for a taypayer (or his/her third party tax preparer) to have a thorough knowledge of the Tax Code, regulations, instructions, etc. The "Help" information is superficial, at best. And the software has only a limited ability to spot errors in one's return.
What's great about it: TurboTax has always been good with getting information in the right place on the right form, schedule, worksheet, etc.
What's not so great: Superficial when it comes to the more complex tax situations
