very misleading with free state. at the end you are told to pay to e-file. used turbo tax in the past and did not pay for 1 state e-file. any additional I paid for. no free e-file this year.
I wasnt really happy with Turbo Tax this year. I had numerous questions and had a problem with the first document I created. I called support and got a representative that was not at all helpful. I had to call back two more times before I got a representative that was extremely helpful, even though she could not resolve the issue.
What's great about it: That I could file online
What's not so great: I had to create a second copy of the 2013 return. Unable to transfer information from first copy to the second copy.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
Filing our small business taxes this year was not nearly as painless as I expected from Turbotax. It was confusing to have to split out expenses manually and then reconcile the totals at the end. Turbotax should have had something to help us walk through it instead of us having to pull out a calculator and divide everything in half... It was also a little unexpected to be told to put different descriptions in for our business depending on whose return we were working on. Overall, not the experience I'd expect.
What's great about it: Same easy-to-use format as always
What's not so great: LLC expense allocations were painful
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
There were two instances of Turbo Tax identifying data fields that needed to be filled in which were non-applicable. This made e-filing a bit more of a chore than it needed to be. Had to go back and either delete a form which never should have been there in the first place or edit a data field that didn't apply. Given the complexity of filing tax returns, these were perceived as minor problems. Overall I would recommend Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: User friendly interface
What's not so great: Erroneous errors detected before filing
This years product is a let down. it advises you to go to a certain form or menu - but the they don't exist. One example: Trying to calculate the Vehicle depreciation for business - tells you to go to certain menu, select this and go from there. But, menu and form doesn't exist. You have to go to the IRS, do it manually, then proceed. I got examples like this in other areas.
What's great about it: covers all areas step by step - supposedly (see cons)
