2013 Tax Return

In the foreign tax computation section, when I downloaded the files from the financial provider into Turbo Tax, some of the conditions and tax consequences regarding taxes paid and exposure was over my head.
What's great about it: Through

I use quicken throughout the year and when tax time comes it's no sweat!
What's great about it: current and prior year information imports seamlessly
What's not so great: Would like to be able to add a second return for non-dependent college student
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Used the step-by-step method and it worked excellent. Edit & error checks provide confidence.
Need a better help function. I.e., I needed to change the mileage for business use and help went to the web instead of giving me a pop up to select a schedule or direct me to the right step.

What's great about it: Quick work on a daunting task!
What's not so great: First screen is not clearly defined as registration of your TTax.

Fast and Affordable. As simple as tax code allows

I own a small business, so the tax code can get complicated (this year my full return was 130 pages with supporting forms). TurboTax helps guide me through the new tax code with Step-By-Step but still lets me zip around through the forms for the parts that I have been doing for years. Also provides quick links to the key IRS rules.
Because I can save and continue I can get a head start before all the supporting forms and details are ready.
I've used professional accountants in the past. They cost 10-20x as much and require all of the same supporting paperwork. Worse yet, some asked me to write (pen and paper) in all the amounts onto their forms. Faster for me to type into TurboTax.
Finally, TurboTax allows me to create multiple files, so I can create a "ProForma" tax return that I use for the following year. That way when my income and expenses change I can ensure my quarterly payments are reasonably accurate (less any upcoming tax code changes).
Because I can save and continue I can get a head start before all the supporting forms and details are ready.

Foreign Tax Credit

The input of K-1 information was not clear nor complete. Error messages were not clear as to how to resolve the problem the error message presented. I spent days trying to work the Foreign Tax Credit exception and never received an answer from Turbo Tax but rather instructions that didn't resolve the problem.
What's not so great: Program did not present option to bypass Form 1116

Turbo Tax Home and Business

I am an independent contractor and could not do my own taxes without this program. I have used Turbo Tax for quite a few years now....it's an excellent software program.
What's great about it: Easy to follow steps. Detailed instructions if needed.
What's not so great: Cost...but still cheaper than a professional tax preparer
