I'm happy just enough to stay with TTAX each year. However, it's very frustrating when you complete a section then your wife finds a lost receipt and you have to click through an interview section, sometimes re-entering info to get to the spot you need. I wish it was possible to see a synopsis of the interview so one could pick and go to a particular spot. Also this year I bought a rental property. I bought the Home & Business version because it said it covered rental property. But as I was filling out the schedule C that TTAX set up for me, I couldn't find a good answer to a question I had so I called a CPA friend for help. What to my surprise he said I should fill out a Schedule E not C for rental property! So I manually added a Schedule E and deleted the Sched C then clicked the interview and it proceeded to interview me for the Sched E. And after entering only what I had up to that point, the refund went up by over $2K!!! Big mistake TTAX!
What's great about it: Fairly thorough, easy to switch between interview and forms
What's not so great: Can't see an overview of interview to go to a certain spot.
I am very much satisfied with turbotax, but at some instances i feel that i am missing some part of my tax filing. For Ex: small deductions that any CPA does and tries to get more refunds. If i select a standard deduction, i might miss some part of these deductions. Also if i have any legal terms if i am not understanding, a video clip to link to that question or step will definitely helpful.
What's great about it: Step by Step easy understandable questions and steps
What's not so great: Not linked to videos explaining individual steps if there are any info required
If your primary income is only from a K-1 and you have a home office expense to deduct TurboTax is no help. They send you to an IRS form to calculate your deduction.
What's great about it: Walks you through most income and expense categories
What's not so great: No help for home office expense with K-1 income
