Eventually got it done

I like the completeness of the software, and since I used it last year, was able to easily compare one year to another. However, if I answered a topic already, and wanted to go back and undo my answers, it was next to impossible. Clicking on the "edit" button for that section did not allow you to re-answer all the questions from scratch. I had to find the appropriate form and make the "manual" adjustment on the form. I wasted lots of time trying to get the "Edit" to work like I wanted and then trying to find the right form. But overall, it was a good and complete software tool.
What's great about it: has all the forms/schedules I needed
What's not so great: difficult to un-do answers
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

My Tax Return

The step by step walk through and the by-passes are excellent. The calculations are complete and well done. Even with a complex return the correlated worksheets seem adequate and very precise. Could not find numerical and correlation errors.
I miss directions about what to do with forms received from various entities, not knowing were to start. For example a K-1 form from passive income, having income not in same language as TurboTax, needed some indication on where to start. Other forms need some indications too. The step-by- step is asking more questions than necessary. With a simpler directory of what to do with some forms it would be less time consuming for non-experts.
I am retired and do consulting, besides drawing retirement funds and soc sec. Many of the forms I received were new and required much time to learn what to do with them. After that the software was very good and rapid. Hope you wold consider providing step-by-step directions based on forms to allow a quicker learning curve.
What's great about it: Good calculations and worksheets, even for dummies
What's not so great: Missing directions on where to place reported income
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

This year somehow presented my LLC income differently than last year and i was unable to figure out why it considered the income differently this year. For several years it has been the same layout.
Explanations of changes would be appreciated.
What's great about it: Generally picked up previous year as a start for current year.
What's not so great: There were changes that confused me.

Turbo Tax = turbo completion and filing

Turbo Tax beats H&R Block all hollow. Last year I took someone's advice and tried the latter after 3 years of using Turbo--big mistake, way too confusing, had to enter everything into yet another program (eTax) to make it fileable. This year, back to Turbo Tax and glad of it!
What's great about it: Asks and answers all conceivable questions
What's not so great: Unfortunately, must reflect the complexities of the federal tax code!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Been using Turbo Tax from the beginning. Will continue! Wish the business and college expense sections were explained more. Not sure why this year we weren't asked how much we actually paid the college when we were asked last year.
Wish you had a 1040EZ version included with each Turbo Tax package so you can click on it and it just walks you through the EZ form. It's a pain to have to go through all of those questions that don't apply to minors and those who don't have enough deductions to write them off anyways.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Sometimes questions are vague and not explained enough
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Overall a great tax package that has allowed us to efficiently complete taxes for our home and businesses. Does a good job of carrying forward depreciation allowances and other business and personal information. I like they way it just starts with last years return and goes forward without having to reenter basic data. This is about my 10th year with Turbo Tax for Mac. It has been important to me that I can also use the program to complete and file taxes with /for my sons and daughter.
What's great about it: Error free, consider all credits/deductions/allows several 1040's w/e-file
What's not so great: Can't print just window/charge for state e-files.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

All in all this is a great tax prep program. Even idiots can file. They cover all the details. Are there concerns? Seems that some data for the prior years is not easily recognized for AMT
What's great about it: easy training wheel steps to help you file
What's not so great: Optional Audit review does not work as it hangs and loops

difficult to figure out without flipping back and forth on the tax issue for real estate taxes. still not sure I put it in the right line
Also vague on rent and royalty income--how to enter if it WAS not due to a 'business' but rather a one time check for use of something, like a rent or royalty. When finished, the state tax papers seemed to be forgotten by Turbo tax. No info how to retrieve or print them off to send in. Did find them but had to search
What's not so great: Not clear on tax entry, and some other things
