Please Make A Note:: Make it plain after "Update Downloads" >>to RESTART<< one's computer. Nowhere was there a mention of this IMPORTANT Step! Thank you
What's great about it: Program always is user friendly.
What's not so great: Ya'll seemed to have overlooked a step..
This is my 7th year using TurboTax. I think it is getting weaker. This year I had two major issues: * TurboTax failed to import from Quicken 2012 and Quicken 2014. I had to enter a lot of information manually. * There are too many manual steps for foreign income and it is not clear how things are linked together. I had to explain where certain foreign income was recorded even though the income was entered in TurboTax. * Too many forms for foreign income are missing.
What's great about it: Has access to previous years returns filed with TurboTax
I paid a fair amount of money for Turbo tax. I expect clear and careful guidance on EVERY single step of the way. But many of the questions they ask the help section is completely useless and really leave you guessing, spending hours searching for answers, googling etc. There were several times when I was asked a question about a business vehicle that I owned, and all 3 of the possible options didn't apply. It asked me do you currently own the vehicle, do you lease it, or it isn't yours. In my case, I sold the vehicle that I was expensing business miles on. So no I didn't own it any longer, and I wasn't leasing it. If I selected I don't own the vehicle it nullified all valid expenses that I entered for that car that I owned. So none of the options truly fit my situation and there was no assitance, I posted on the forum never got a response, no easy way to contact someone from Turbo tax etc. Secondly, I ran into issues when I deleted a vehicle, it left information still on the tax forms from that vehicle even though I told the software to delete everything. After about an hour I ended up deleting that whole form and doing it again. They need to truly analayze every single possible situation and provide assistance through every question for it to be a good product.
What's great about it: Most questions are easy to answer and go fast
What's not so great: Some parts don't work and are very frustrating
I am a long-term user of the Turbo Tax product. It truly makes taxes less painful and the cost is reasonable compared to paid preparers. I love the transfer of prior year data, the ability to save the return as a PDF and to select whether to complete all steps or select the steps I want to complete. Two areas for improvement: the software does not always return to where you close out the return. This does not happen often but when it does, you have to click through sections that you already completed. Sometimes, your prior answers are not saved and you have to enter again. That being said, I love the software and will continue to purchase it yearly.
What's great about it: Transfer of Prior Year Data and Saving as PDF
What's not so great: Does Not Always Return to Close-Out Section
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
