Only one problem with the online version. I rent rooms in my home and the online version would not take me to the business deduction for property taxes but I could not answer the quesion "Are you a real estate professional" with yes.
The help line had me use the download version and everything was fine after that.
What's great about it: quick and easy
What's not so great: Sometimes the logic of where it takes you next seems wrong
Have utilized Turbo Tax for years and enjoy how easy it is to doing compared to handling long hand. Was disappointed I couldn't get last year's tax info brought in, realized after I had started that I hadn't moved last year's files to new computer and was unable to easily find info to do so. Thank you for saving me time Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Completing taxes was quicker than by long hand
What's not so great: Couldn't get last years taxes brought in
The overall experience was awesome because it does most of the calculations, questions, and finds errors. You can e-file it and get a quick return, also looking for additional deductions that you might qualify for. It was the easiest way to file my return using my computer and took less time and money than going to a tax professional. Ultimately, I liked the convenience of being able to save it, print, and e-file it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to do taxes and needs any help.
What's great about it: The turbo tax software allowed me to follow step by step for each section allowing me to do it quickly & accurately.
What's not so great: It kept asking me to update first before being able to e-file it, once I did it took 2 tries and then validated it.
I really like using Turbo tax. The only thing that keeps it from being perfect is that in the investment section I have problems with reporting income from grants of restricted stock from my employer. Nothing ever 100% matches up with what is provided by etrade.
What's great about it: Clear questions easy to answer
What's not so great: Investment section is confusing
You have everything at your fingertips with Turbo Tax. The expense is less than using an accountant or tax service. You have the convenience of keeping your records in your PC & printing copies when you need them.
What's great about it: Takes you through each step with ease & provides lots of helpful hints/guides. Much less expensive than a tax service.
What's not so great: I dont see any cons to using this software.
I am a retired CPA, so know my way around most taxes and have used this, as well as other, tax prep software for several years. TurboTax seems to be getting more difficult to navigate rather than simpler.
What's great about it: Easy to e-file.
What's not so great: Took way too long to navigate for my short return. Need a free state filing, not just federal.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
I have used Turbo Tax for my person tax returns for many years. I especially like the opportunity to purchase audit defense at an affordable rate. I find Turbo Tax to be reliable, accurate and exceptionally easy to use. I plan to be using it for years to come. Thank you, Turbo Tax, for lowering the stress and anxiety that always accompanies tax season.
What's great about it: ease of use, good directions, running tax totals, audit defense
