I notice that their have been improvements every year. Listing charities was easier this year with no addresses required.
What's great about it: step by step with explanations
What's not so great: ???

Doing 13 Taxes

sold a gifted property but couldn't find where to plug in the information. Even with the tax community it was difficult to find what the correct form/place was. It just took time to dig it out. The other went so easy but when it didn't fit the prompts I was confused.
What's great about it: Easy to follow prompts
What's not so great: If it doesn't fit the prompt it is difficult to find where to plug in the info
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Better Than Using an Accountant
on March 18, 2014

I use to have an accountant do my taxes for about 20 years and the fees kept getting larger even though I gave them all the information. 5 years ago my friend who was a former IRS agent who used TurboTax starting doing them for me. 3 years ago I sat down with him to enter information and realized I can do this. I have been using TurboTax Home and Business and TT Business to do my taxes for the last 3 years. TurboTax has explanations of each question when I need help. It also checks the returns and confirms all my entries along with an audit risk assessment. I also purchase the TT Audit Defense so I would not have to go through an audit alone. Using TT is an all around WIN!
What's great about it: I can see information as I enter it and make corrections as needed. Return review, audit risk assessment, Audit Defense.
What's not so great: None yet.

Paid less than we expected

Taxes were easier to do than I thought they would be using this program. It was clear and thorough with instructions and questions. The only problem was with the e-file not working. I entered in my information exactly as it was for 2012 return and the system kept coming back saying it was the wrong address. I triple checked every letter and number. Don't bother with e-file. It won't work. Go by snail mail.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions and thorough
What's not so great: E-file did not work with the retrieve PIN function
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Better than ever, but still room for improvement

In addidion to amounts, showing me what choices I made last year would geatly speed up the process. For example when it comes to Yes/No quetions, tell me what choice I made last year. When there is a list of choices, let's say 6, tell me that last year I chose 4 and 6 or whatever the case may be.
What's great about it: Most of what I filled in on the previous year's forms was shown
What's not so great: Some of the previous years amounts were not shown
