In general I enjoy using TurboTax, but the details asked for in TurboTax do not align with Quicken tax entries associated with some categories, e.g. TurboTax asks for more details on medical expenses than Quicken provides tax line entry choices such as medical equipment, lab expenses, optical. So I must separate these manually. I have figured out how to create subcategories for many things to pick out the tax related portion of an expense or income but still must manually do calculations to align them with TurboTax step by step questions. Also, it is sometimes difficult to locate and understand the calculations behind some line entries. I guess that is where I am trusting TurboTax to do it correctly.
What's great about it: Provides file of backup data; Transfers data from both Quicken and Quickbooks
What's not so great: Always have to make manual adjustments/overrides for some deductions
The differences from year to year often throw me off sometimes. For example there were different questions regarding to my installment sale of property and I felt uncomfortable that I wasn't getting the full benefit.
What's great about it: Easy to use once all info you need is gathered.
What's not so great: Have to be careful what you check as you go through the questions.
Slightly below average due to having to reload for disk, getting update then continuing.
Starting Turbotax by clicking on the data file it would check for updates, Clicking on the OK box to close the popup did not work so the popup stayed. While the popup was open the "Tips" or items that offered additional information would not open.
Only way to see the information was to re-install and not reboot the computer.
What's great about it: easy to follow
What's not so great: had to reload often to get tips
Updates are too deep in the program, Print for your records should be after all corrections completed, not after E-filing. Surely there must be better programs than TurboTax
What's great about it: cheaper than professional tax preparer
What's not so great: Hard to understand, corrections next to impossible, frustrating, slow
poor instructions for entering land sale...a couple of folks said to enter as a home sale. Wrong..., business section not well developed. Better than trying to go it alone however. Just need a better help function with more competent answers than what turbo tax provides.
What's great about it: ease of entry, ability to go directly to forms
What's not so great: conflicting and possibly incorrect help from community
